People are saying either a T-38 or T-45 crashed in Fort Worth. Hoping for the best! https://abc7ny.com/fort-worth-plane-crash-military-lake-texas/11031300/

RR won the contract over GE and PW. With the engine and some other upgrades, sounds like the old gal will get a new designation to B-52J and fly well into 2050s. Would be cool if it made it to 2061 to make it 100 years on some of those models. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/42517/rolls-royce-will-provide-long-awaited-new-jet-engines-for-the-b-52-bomber-fleet

As the title says I accepted a bonus and now I want to pay it back and get out. I love the Air Force, but I’ve come into some money and want to pursue other goals in life. I recall the bonus paperwork going pretty high up if I decide to pay it back and get out, but was curious if any of you have any experience or know anyone that has done this? I want to have all my ducks in a row before I start anything formal so any recommendations you all have would be appreciated. if anyone is curious I’ve made this money in investments and now I’m being recruited into some cool startups. I am not joking when I say I love the Air Force, but we only have so much time on this earth…

  4. Started by Bode,

I retire at the end of this year and was recently hired by DAL. I'm considering joining a reserve unit after retirement because I enjoy the flying and teaching. I've had a few people mention its a terrible idea and I will lose money big time. Anyone here in the program or ran the numbers?

  6. Good day all, Hope the experts on here can chime in. AFI 36-2501 has me all spun around. I know its a long post, but thanks in advance for those that take the time to read! My updated info: 1) ADSC 1: 30 Apr 2023 (Bonus) 2) ADSC 2: 31 Jul 2022 (PCS) 3) TAFMS: May 2000 (21+ years) I meet my 2nd look for O-5 in March 2022 (LAF-A). Following standard timeline, I should expect the results roughly 1 Jul 2022. Im looking at multiple options and cant get any answers from MPF, and trying to decide if I should write a letter to the board to not consider. If for some miracle I was promoted, I wouldn’t pin on til after im on terminal o…

Long story short, I incurred another 4 year commitment because I failed to transfer my GI-Bill benefits in time. I would like to retire ASAP, and I was wondering if anyone has had luck with any kind of waiver to avoid the additional commitment? Is there a precedent for such a thing?

  8. Keep an eye-- 47th FS A-10s are making their way to Randolph today, and Vance tomorrow. A few of us will be around to show off the Hog and tell some lies about things we've done over the last decade to 1/4 century. On the official note, and the reason this didn't go straight to the Squadron Bar forum, a handful of us FTU IPs were invited to take a roadshow of UPT by MGEN Wills. One of our IPs is heavily involved in some online forums, and his continued commentary (always constructive... mostly) generated the all-expenses paid trip to see what all this hullabaloo is all about first-hand. We've got questions from our perspective as the next in-line to the UPT/IFF p…

  9. https://patch.com/pennsylvania/horsham/horsham-military-pilot-injured-daughter-killed-plane-crash I’ve know Deane for a long time. I first got to know him when he was flying F-16s in the Fort Smith, AR guard. Terrible news to say the least. Many thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family for the loss of their daughter.

After reading over the several AFI’s that cover officer promotions, I still cannot figure out what would happen if you would fail to make major twice. Does anyone have any experience or stories with a situation like this?

So what do y’all think the odds are that A) those 90K Russians on the Ukrainian border are there to invade and if they do, that B) we’ll do anything about it? I’m not sure we will. Putin has picked his timing perfectly to coincide with the fallout of our Afghan withdrawal IMHO.

  13. As an officer, do administrative disciplines affect the type of discharge you receive if you have good conduct until you retire/separate? For example, if you have 10 years of good service and get an article 15, then have 10 more years of good service, can you expect an honorable discharge?

  14. MARSRADIO continues to provide free HF communications for land, air and sea DoD assets as authorized by DoDi 4620.02. We want to say a big THANK YOU to our military, active and retired, for your service to our country. Come up to our net for any assistance that we can supply. In addition to regular official and morale phone patches, we have handled in-flight emergencies and even provided sports scores. It is all about supporting you. While still spotty, conditions are improving into Europe, Africa and the Pacific.

Anyone ever heard of it? Any advice? Standard POC on the announcement is like trying to find Bin Laden before that redhead got on the case. Looking at possibly making the jump and teaching NFO’s while tooling around in a T-45. Or a Super Hornet if they’ll take me.

  18. I’ll make this short. I have a parent who recently got a bad medical diagnosis. I’m a casual LT at a UPT base 17 hours away by car, and 5-6 hours away by plane. I don’t have a ton of leave, but enough where I can make a few trips home. Not nearly enough to make regular trips though. I’m likely to be in casual status for at least 6 months. I want to be closer to help out for treatments and be around in case things turn for the worst. From the research I’ve done, there’s a few types of emergency leave, but they max out quickly and will put me into a negative balance that it’ll take forever to rebound from. I can’t request a humanitarian move due to the fact a gain…

  20. Started by HuggyU2,

I'm just curious... When I went to UPT, we did a winging ceremony on Friday in the base theater with family, and a mess dress dinner at the Club. It was a large time. I've heard that has changed quite a bit. What is being done now for UPT graduation? And how did it look 2 years ago before the Wu-Flu changed things? (I asked this elsewhere but no reply.)

  21. Delta airlines is the latest in not requiring a 4yr degree. It's preferred but no longer a requirement. The major airlines are pulling away all the stops in finding pilots to fill the vacancies for the foreseeable future.

  22. Started by bennynova,

Any truth to this? Thoughts? Many of you have seen the topic of the recent F35 crash being discussed, along with statements supposedly made by the pilot right before he ejected that he was having chest pains. As skeptical of everything that has to do with the vaccine as I am, even I thought the reporting on this was BS hyperbole. Until about 30 minutes ago, that is. . . I commanded an F/A-18 squadron in the 2007-2010 time frame, and a good friend of mine who was also a Hornet squadron commander and Airboss afterwards just called to tell me that he heard the unedited PLAT tape with his own ears, and before ejecting the pilots says: "I'm experiencing sudde…

Light Fighters... interesting article and worth a read IMHO. https://warontherocks.com/2022/02/the-light-fighter-is-the-air-forces-manned-unmanned-team-solution/ Author leaves room for discussion for what I would call mission requirements vs platform requirements, that is what is the mission and then what is the platform required or capable of meeting those technical / performance requirements. How many UCAVs / UAVs would it need to control, at what distance, how resilient to EA to that supplied link, how much organic capability for offense/defense for this platform, etc... most of that I think would be a result of what the cognitive load is determined to …
