WTF. No surprises though, the same genius generals who have lost for 20 years are in charge of this retaliatory strike. Of course it's going to be weak bullshit. Bottom line: our enemies don't fear us and so we lose and continue to lose. I've been hoping to kill Iranians since this attack during my third deployment. Fuck Iran, they are a paper tiger and we need to show teeth. All of our supposedly experienced colonels and generals advocate a measured response but we need our boot on their throat or we need to get the fuck out of that AO. Play to win or go home.

I used to think this way too but have changed my mind in the last few years. You are right about Ivy League OSD staff being idiots directly responsible for failed policies (how many of those weaklings have ever been in a fight?) but I also blame senior military leaders. Many of them are good people with good hearts, but there is a culture of overly compliant subservience which is unhealthy. They order people to take physical risks, yet they themselves are 0% willing to take moral, administrative or ethical risks on behalf of those people exposed to harm; that is unacceptable. Think about when our nation used to win wars and the generals who led us to victories: Billy Mitchell, Patton, MacArthur... do we have 4 stars today capable of leading boldly and accepting the consequences, their own career be damned? No. I have also seen a handful of general officers try to do the right thing or push forward mildly aggressive COAs. However, all of them pivoted at the first sign of resistance for fear of their own progression. The military still attracts hard-core pipe hitting young people, and God bless them. Unfortunately all of our senior military leadership has proven incapable of winning wars, and yes, I blame them for that failure.

Glocks are great guns - simple, accurate and dependable as fuck. Their only crime is bland looks, but I don’t give a shit about that, especially on “purpose-driven” guns. Range toys are for fucking around with fancy shit. And if you can’t stand stock, a trigger, sights, barrels, springs, etc. are not expensive, easy to find, and easy to replace. I had a buddy give me shit once because I “had to” replace the trigger on my glocks, so that’s why they suck. Even with that and a aftermarket barrel on that particular Glock, I was still less money in than his malfunction trainer…I mean Kimber.

CSO select here, 98 pilot/99 nav/91 pcsm/21+ flt hrs no PPL, and fairly strong job performance imo for only being in a couple years. Not gonna lie I’m a little bummed I didn’t get pilot but I’m going to take it and see where it goes! Who knows what it’ll lead to. See y’all in Pensacola!

A simple index will massively outperform his 2.99% debt. It’s also lower risk than buying individual stocks. Your advice to not do that is either retarded or you’re assuming he wants to cash out the hypothetical investment in a few years. If it’s the latter, I see that point, but also cashing out in a few years is exactly the opposite of smart long term investing. I DGAF about 2008, and the simple reason is I didn’t lose my mind and pull out all my investments. I now have tons of gains from the very money I “lost” in that time period. If I was 60 at the time, it would have been different, but I was in my 20s with tons of time to wait it out. Buy early, buy often, have patience and emotional control = all someone needs to do in their 20s to build a solid base for retirement.

I started investing my flight pay as a 1Lt using dollar cost averaging. Just put money in every month because the market will increase over the long term. I quit adding money to that account years ago when I was hired at an airline. That account has had some serious ups and downs over 40 years but is now approaching 7 digits because time in the market usually beats timing the market.

It’ll work out man, it seems like you have the attitude to get past it. There’s a lot of different cool things to go do in the AF that you haven’t even heard of yet. I got a pilot slot out of ROTC, going to fly was all I wanted to do after going to AirVenture for the first time when I was 4. Got my shot, but it turns out I spend more time throwing up in the jet than I do flying it and it was “suggested” I find something else to go do. Part way through the process it was hard to deal with as I realized it wasn’t going to work. When I finally had to sit down with the CC and he told me I wasn’t going to be allowed to solo and I was done, I was honestly relieved. Throwing up every day, losing 30lbs from not being able to eat killed my desire to do it at some point. I also was ineligible for any other rated jobs. Met a reclass board, ended up elsewhere and turns out it worked out awesome. I’ve gotten to do some wild stuff that I wouldn’t have been able to do if I was flying. It’s all what you make of it, and hey, if whatever you end up doing isn’t your cup of tea, you don’t have to wait around for 10 years to punch.
