For you who follow such things, here's a little blurb from the web (Av Week site, David Fulghum) about the F-35: "There were troubling words from the Air Force about the F-35A. The inability to demonstrate the Joint Strike Fighters ability to conduct offensive counter air and suppression as well as the destruction of enemy air defense in heavily defended environments is going to delay the strike fighters operational debut by another two years. Last summer, the Air Force estimated that F-35's IOC would be declared in 2016. But when an analysis is complete later this year, we currently expect up to a two-year delay that will push establishment of the first operational…

The Charbroil finally rusted itself useless and with the new Infrared grills out there, anybody have advice on a good grill. Been sticking to gas because of convenience but thinking about trying out wood/charcoal or the infrared.

what's up y'all! I am in the process of getting my PPL and I absolutely love flying, and will be continuing after I finish college; however, I am stuck between the two options listed above in the title. Ive heard so many different stories of how having time before going to UPT is good because you have a good idea of how to do things, or how it can also be bad due to unlearning civilian flying habits. it seems to me like most of our guys at the 199th FS had time before going to UPT such as Skywest, HA pilot, CFI, charter airline, and I definitely think i'm gonna jump on that train. I understand that Uncle Sam would be paying for those ratings and it would be a waste …

I never spent time in USAFE but some of the folks in my office did. We sat around today and they told stories about "He who should not be named." Hence the reason I mispelled his name. I heard about 6 or 7 absolutely outlandish stories. Can they really be true? Apparently this fellow got angry because he had ordered his commercial to be played every 45 minutes on AFRTS. While watching TV one day, he realized it had gone longer than 45 minutes with no commercial. He went nuclear and demanded to know why. Well, PA tracked it down and informed him it wasn't on the Euro AFRTS channel, but rather the Pacific AFRTS channel. He then instructed PA to contact PACOM and…

howzit going guys and gals, I have a question on the rushing process and was curious if anyone had some answers. how long is too long, and you've started to overstay your welcome? Being a DSG, I usually just head upstairs after drill and cruise with everyone, and they usually have roll call which, obviously, rushees aren't allowed in so we hang around outside until it's done. Anecdotally speaking, hanging around that late to just talk story with the pilots after is good faceTime and shows your eagerness for lack of better words. However, this drill, most of the rushees dipped out before the roll call and it was just me and a couple dudes waiting until lat…

https://www.ehowa.com/showmovie.shtm...=birdstrike.wmv Interesting piece of HUD footage, looks like maybe a T-45 at CRP. IP does a great job of handling the IFE, remaining calm while the stud starts to stress, transfering control to unload the front seater so they can focus on a re-light, making a timely decision to unass the jet and even gets a call off to the tower first. Bonus points for the use of "jeepers" as an expletive. Nice solid piece of aviating. Hope those guys didn't get hurt. [ 29. July 2005, 18:29: Message edited by: LJDRVR ]

As an instructor currently in the pilot training enterprise, I think it's safe to say that "UPT Next" has enough momentum that it's here to stay. https://warontherocks.com/2019/01/rebuilding-the-forge-reshaping-how-the-air-force-trains-fighter-aviators/ That being said, I'm interested in hearing what FTUs and Ops Units are seeing with regard to baseline results.

  17. Sorry in advance for the weak google/forum searching. What happens if you drop out of/fail UPT? Do you stay in the Air Force and go onto a new career field, or are you kicked out of the Air Force? Sorry again if this has already been answered.

The movers showed up without wardrobe boxes that I requested weeks, if not a month in advance of my move date. JPPSO was like they didn't bring wardrobe boxes, that's a pretty standard thing! After calling JPPSO, they made them deliver wardrobe boxes to my house. The young lady overseeing the movers tried to tell me that they were going to stand up my Tempurpedic Breeze mattress in the crate. I let everyone know well in advance that I have a HIGH VALUE Tempurpedic Breeze mattress. It must ALWAYS be shipped flat (laying down). In fact, I've never had to explain this to any moving company contracted by the military. After I tell them I have a Tempurpedic Breeze, they …

  19. Hello everyone, I have considered starting a podcast related to aviation, however I am coming to this forum for advice as to whether or not it would be a good idea before even securing any sort of military pilot slot. I would aim for my podcast to be somewhat informational and entertaining, but I don't want it to come across or be perceived that I am doing the podcast to show my ownself, rather the aviation professionals I would be interviewing. The absolute last thing I want to do is create a podcast, broadcast my face and make it to where, even if get past the commissioning phase, that I am viewed as some know-it-all asshole, even if I do my best to not portray b…

  20. Serious question here, not looking to start a pissing contest. I know there’s at least a couple people on this forum who have experience in both. Which was generally “more difficult” and what made it so? Or were some parts of one easier in the other and vice versa?

  22. Hello all, This is more of a "curiosity killed the cat" post, and a post that may have been answered somewhere I cannot find on this forum, so my apologies in advance for the weak searching capabilities. Cutting to the chase, how does CV-22 Osprey assignments happen out of pilot training. I have read that dropping the Osprey only occurs out of the newer HTN training pipeline, but I have also read that you can drop the Osprey from the T-38 and the T-1 through the typical T-6 UPT. Could a UPT grad for example, drop the Osprey from say the T-1 track? I look forward to reading any and all information given, -Random

Hmmm... an intersting concept - especially since the USAF was the Army Air Corps through WWII. I'm not sure I fully agree with the notion of the USAF being created only to prosecute a strategic war... But there are certainly redundancies between the services. At any rate, its an interesting concept and given our current fiscal realities, one thast may not go away quickly. https://www.boston.com/opinion/2014/01/06/time-abolish-the-air-force/B1BQF31AkNjl0GcQS8msHO/story.html

  25. If you have met all the time requirements and have passed the written is it possible to get your ATP during your T-1 checkride. Will the FAA give you the equivalency rating like they do with the Commercial, Instrument, and Multiengine ratings. [ 28. July 2005, 15:19: Message edited by: pcgoeken ]
