Denying it while knowing full well the journalist has the receipts might be the wildest part. Like how do your teams not come up with a better damage control strategy4 points

Wait... is this an elusive "Hacker spotting"?!?! Kind of like seeing Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster! Or did Chang hack Hacker's account??4 points

Did you watch the testimony this morning? Signal was installed on their computers/phones one day one of the job by the GOVERNMENT. I am certain that came with usage restrictions but still! From an intel perspective the material was not classified, but they drew two very fine distinctions: 1. They CIA/FBI/DNI were not the arbitrator of DoD classified and referred questions to DoD - valid. 2. SECDEF is the declassification source for DoD material (I did not know that). In my mind a crap argument to assert SECDEF can declassify simply by sending...I hope that is not what they are going to argue. Bottomline - if the material was not classified as asserted, publish it for all to see...sunshine is the best disinfectant. If it was classified, do not publish and hold those responsible accountable. Not hard to say unless you are democrat talking about Hillary's private server and 33,000 emails.4 points

It means that, unlike with ATF and JSF and every previous fighter acquisition program of the last 50 years, the AF claims to have internally designed much of the basic capabilities, and then only brought in Boeing and LM (and Northrop?) after -- reportedly years after --- to fully flesh out what they've done internally into an actual production aircraft. So, the opposite of putting out an RFP and having manufacturers design their own attempts to meet the requirements in the RFP. To wit: https://www.defensenews.com/breaking-news/2020/09/15/the-us-air-force-has-built-and-flown-a-mysterious-full-scale-prototype-of-its-future-fighter-jet/3 points

Covid lab leak Russia collusion Hunter laptop etc, etc, etc Perhaps there's reason to be skeptical3 points

Yea super immature. Can't imagine anyone in that chat needed that info. Curious what happens. Democrats will clearly demand firing, but they didn't when last SECDEF botched AFG and was literally AWOL for days so R's will focus on the hypocrisy. So maybe those positions are beyond accountability but I hope Pete gets fired. If he had owned it I might have a different opinion but he also lied when questioned by the press so credibility shot.2 points

No. They should get fired or they should resign. A little accountability would be a huge breath of fresh air. I keep trying to wrap my head around a reason why they used signal and included a reporter, and all I can come up with is occam’s razor—they’re doofuses. Most of us on here know better, and we’d all get canned if we did the same thing. extra thought—is this some kind of misdirection? Lots of attention on this one huge SNAFU…what’s going on unnoticed?2 points

Signal is not even approved for CUI, much less classified info. There's been issues reported on for years now about officials using signal for CUI. Pentagon tech boss used unauthorized app for official communications: watchdog2 points

Seems to me there are two different questions to ask. First, is the use of Signal approved for this level of classified conversation between these specific people (minus the reporter)? If it is approved, then that part of the story is now moot. If it is not approved, these guys have a massive problem and should be punished to the full extent Second, how did a journalist get on the thread? This was clearly maliciously done or was gross careless negligence. Seems to me that this is the real issue.2 points

Finally... I had on my CDB my MFS date for 17 Apr I did the EFMP (thanks bpep887!!) and found out I am team Columbus! Received a call from my CC; told me that my RNLT is 5 May, still no training RIP 😄2 points

that's a lot of questions bro, I'll try to engage: Your screenshots are real, and principals have said so. However those screenshots do not show any secret war plans and I see nothing inappropriate about them (other than the bone headed move to add the wrong person). The troubling claim is that within the same text chain secret information on operational details was shared, but the journalist was too patriotic to release that info. Instead we should trust him, and the principals should resign. DNI refuted that assertion under oath today, and the journalist himself has a history of pushing debunked Russian collusion claims in the past. If proof exists that these principals were discussing secret operational details on an unclassified system, fire them at a minimum. I think that covers the gist of your questions without answering each one line by line. curious what is meant by "secret war plans" considering the journalist making the claim has never seen secret war plans. I have, and I've seen unclass principal level discussion of messaging sync after tactical strikes. The legal distinction making something secret is if release could reasonably be suspected to cause damage to national security. So, let's see it then decide.2 points

I think if it was gross negligence, then yes, someone should be fired…and if it’s Waltz, then so be it. But let’s not pretend the Democrats suddenly care about this security stuff. Two things can be true at the same time.2 points

Spoke with the Rated Management Branch of AFPC this morning while chasing down some RFIs from leadership about my class dates and RNLT. Assignments are currently being loaded by AFPC, be patient as it is one individual loading all of our information. That being said, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week are the big days for most of us to have our assignments input. Once input, expect your RIPs within 2 - 3 business days. Additionally, there is some variance to your RNLT date and class start date. As others have posted, some folks will be casual for a few months after PCSing. In my case, my RNLT is 05 MAY 2025 to Vance and start date is 04 JUNE 2025. It'll be Standard UPT - skipping IFT. Some Gouge on IPT vs UPT as well - Columbus seems to be leading the charge. A majority of folks getting assigned there will be in IPT. At Vance, it'll be fall before its IPT only. No gouge for Laughlin.1 point

we get it..."lock her up". do it, doubt anyone here gives a shit (including me). would love to see the same disdain for the complete willful disregard of OPSEC here as you have for Hillary American military lives are literally being further risked due to the sloppy, apathetic, and general DGAF attitude of this admin1 point

This is what happens when you hire amateurs. When Trump made these noms, our enemies cheered him on. Pete, a talk show type with lots of baggage with women, there's room there for manipulation. Tulsa, a flip flop, there's room there. When Mattis was nominated, our enemies shit their pants. The T2.0 cabinet, they laughed out loud.1 point

I guess this is what happens when you nominate an Army Guard Major to be SECDEF [emoji51] They need to own the mistake and then move on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

My guess is that the blow-by-blow info on this Operation was originally being transmitted to the SECDEF by the COCOM CC via a SCIF/Secure Network and was in fact appropriately marked/designated "Highly Classified/TS/SCI/etc): It sounds like the SEFDEF might have officially screwed the pooch.1 point

Agreed. “Check out this cool shit” type of talk. Completely unnecessary and the players in that chat had zero need to know.1 point

As more comes out, it's bad. Leaves me wondering why? Why the details. It almost sounds like bragging. Sounds like something a junior NCO would do. There was no reason for it. He's the secdef, just say 'we're going to hit them'. The level of detail is gloating. Most of those people in the group don't know what any of that shit is anyways.1 point

That's bad. Worst part is that it was the person that should have known the best about what was ok and not ok to talk about in an unclassified environment. And let all the anti-Trumpers here take note that we are calling a spade a spade even when it hurts 'our team'.1 point

Yes, that's what I want. The assertion is these were war plans for strikes that have already happened. If that's true there is no OPSEC issue with releasing them, and it would convince me to advocate for punishment. "Trust me, it's very secret and they should resign" is insufficient from the same person who pushed the Russian collusion hoax. That said, adding a reporter to your principal chat group is laughably stupid & incompetent. If Waltz did it, regardless of whether secrets were discussed, he should be fired.1 point

It would be refreshing to see them say 'we fucked up, shouldn't have happened. Here is what we're doing to prevent it in the future'. The flip flopping of all these admins suddenly caring about security when it suits their side is nauseating.1 point

Trump just stated the journalist was added to the chat by a Waltz staffer. The plot thickens. On the bright side, this incident may finally push units and command teams to use DOD-approved messaging apps instead of the cowboy stuff we've been seeing.1 point

Yes and no. Those same debates are being done in the public sphere by those same individuals in the signal chat to the press at official press conferences and no one has claimed that those were somehow leaks. Trump has repeatedly said that Europe needs to take a bigger role in their own security and defense, so that can hardly be classified. If they had gone into detail like 'country A is a more important partner than B because of XYZ and this action is only going to help country B and country A doesn't want us to do it, so let's not' then I could see that being classified. But simply saying that 'I don't know if we should do this because Europe needs to step up' is nothing different than they have said to the public repeatedly. Did anything they said really reveal any capabilities, decision making processes, or really anything that would hurt us or our allies? I didn't see anything that did. Will our adversaries benefit from the 'leak'? Not directly, but I would argue that they are benefiting from the circus that has erupted afterwards, but that is only due to the absurd reactions and is 100% on the media and the left. I'm fully open to changing my mind if more info comes to light, but the screenshots shared so far are a big nothing.1 point

I am guessing Hegseth used Signal as part of his former gig at Foxnews which would explain the links to journalists. Also, Signal very popular in the SOF community...there is a whole Signal subculture. Sending it to the wrong person is not the issue, sending classified plans on a non-approved network is the issue. And if he did it he should be punished. Legally Comey help set the precedent that it not a big deal when we all know it is. It took intent from both Hegseth and Clinton to put that material on an unclassified network. 33,000 Hillary Emails had to be transferred off a classified network and copied onto an unclassified server, I never understood how Comey didn't see that as deliberate and with intent. I am very curious how Hegseth's deal plays out...again if the details are correct (to include weapons loads), then it was a deliberate effort to take material off and unclass network (pictures or digitally copied), and put it on Signal...or did he type a note with the details...either way UNSAT, no excuses, time to be held accountable.1 point

A. If true, a massive fcuk up. B. Goldberg is a massive never Trumper who has written false stories before (suckers and losers fame) C. Given that, odd that he'd be on such an e-mail chain (never mind that classified being on such a unclass system) D. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-administration-revoking-legal-status-002259448.html So, a potential, but not confirmed, mistaken leak of a classified plan, which can be redone. Which we do all the time, or, 500,000 more illegals getting their 'get outta here' notification. LFG!!1 point

To be fair, the previous admin was never at risk of leaking any secret war plans because none were made.1 point

Texted, not even a secure messaging platform. Thanks @SurelySerious for correcting. What an absolute failure of...everything still stands. Oh, in case you didn't know China's all up in the telecom shit. https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/news/joint-statement-fbi-and-cisa-peoples-republic-china-prc-targeting-commercial-telecommunications BTW, one of the first things killed was the CISA's ability to investigate these giant breaches with subpoena power and name/shame where necessary. They did really good work on the State Dept's breach that Microsoft allowed to happen because MS didn't follow their own guidance - https://www.cisa.gov/resources-tools/resources/CSRB-Review-Summer-2023-MEO-Intrusion The CSRB (Cybersecurity Review Board) was patterned after the NTSB, and was doing really great work. They were in the middle of investigating the China breach of telecom, but now that'll never finish or if it does it'll be years from when the findings will be impactful. They've also killed the coordination groups for headed by DHS/CISA for coordinating among states/counties the threats to critical infrastructure - utilities, elections, etc. This is a legitimate weakening of our nations ability to respond to attacks by nation states on critical infrastructure that is not federally controlled and fun fact: most of it isn't federally controlled. Cyber is very much a team game and losing this guidance and oversight is really crippling. It's hard for me to articulate how much we're losing as a nation with this neutering of CISA. No proof opinion - I think it's because Trump and his cronies are upset DHS/CISA didn't parrot the stolen/hacked election from 2020 bullshit. Edit - at work, just saw the byline and un-paywalled bit. Corrected the messaging platform, everything else is correct about the loss of CISA's capes.1 point
