Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Gents (and Ladies) If the mods want to move this to the flying videos thread then I am sure they will, but I thought that this video was so damned good that it deserved its own thread. The Mach Loop The video was taken from a hill top in Wales where Air Forces from around Europe come and do their low flying. For the RAF, these low fly areas don't have a minimum altitude restriction, and for USAFE I believe the limit is 500' AGL. In this video, there is some good F-15E action, as well as a C-130J pass for you heavy types. The little black jets are BAe Hawk T.Mk 1As, and the guys flying them are students undergoing the Fast Jet portion of their flying training. …

Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a little while and finally found something worthy of posting. I found a link to this on another forum and it was just too good not to share. It was really hard to pick out a favorite line, but I think mine was, "BTW A one time experiementation while in the military, does not make one a homosexual." Enjoy... Mall Ninja

"If in 10 years, all American troops stationed in Europe for national defense purposes have not been returned to the United States, then this whole project will have failed.” Eisenhower in 1951 I saw this morning refusal to refuel USN ships from a Norwegian company https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/03/01/mike-lee-calls-for-exit-from-nato-after-norwegian-fuel-company-stops-refueling-u-s-military-ships/ I’m not sure the US doesn’t have interests in Europe or should not have some military commitments/alliances but perhaps NATO really has out lived its purpose, perhaps a more focused alliance of the US and perhaps the UK to the nations of Eastern Eu…

Am I completely losing my mind, or is the “Leaving the Air Force for the Airlines” thread gone? Is big blue trying to squash the exodus by quietly censoring BO.net? We wouldn’t want to allow those still on active duty the resources necessary to make an educated decision about their career paths (that happens during mid-term OPR feedback). What am I missing?

  8. Maybe some of you eat this stuff up. Perhaps, you're confident your horse will win. I'm actually nauseated for our future. I'm turning off the TV and watching some Netflix. I'll wake up tomorrow and maybe I'll care to see what happened. I need a beer. Out

If this is half as good as "Band of Brothers", it should be kick ass. https://www.pacificfans.com/trailer.mov I always kind of hoped they would do an aviation type mini-series based on "The Wild Blue" or something like that, but shedding some light on the campaign in the pacific will be cool.

  10. I think that the world view of America is that it is a country rooted in the deepest sense of patriotism and respect for its armed forces... so the idea that one of America's national sporting bodies (and associated teams) was taking money to salute the troops is a little shocking. The Pentagon paid 14 NFL teams $5.4 million to 'salute troops' https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/the-pentagon-paid-14-nfl-teams-dollar54-million-to-salute-troops/ar-BBjFQq9?ocid=iehp

Split from the thread. Yeager spoke last night at the theater in the woods. Apparently he's not afraid to speak his mind in front of a crowd. Don't know if he's got the scoop on what happened, but he bashed the viper driver in front of the crowd. Basically said he has no respect for a Guy who lacks basic airmanship. I thought was pretty bold. But then again, I have no idea what happened.

So enroute to the AOR on the rotator, we had a layover in an undisclosed country in order for them to crew change and fuel the bird. Thinking nothing of it, I left my PSP and peripherals in the seat. Come back out to the plane, GONE. The "airline" in question's response: tough shit, we don't reimburse for our shady characters taking your things. So take from my $700+ lesson and secure your stuff on your person, even when you are on the rotator and think that maybe, for some reason, your stuff might be safe.

So my personnel record in the Air Force dates all the way back to 1999. But now for some reason, according to the AF, I don't have any proof that I am a US citizen and I have to track down an original copy of my birth certificate or I get derported I guess. BTW, my family came over from Scotland in the 1700s and I never left the US until I was 21. Pretty impressive even for the MPF if you ask me. Anybody else have this problem.
