Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Distinguished Baseops community, Wanted to post a "Get the word out" thread for not only these two individuals, but for anyone in the future who wanted to help Military members running for office. There was that one "Guest for Congress?" (not me) thread from a while back, but that was about that guy in particular. This is intended to be one in general for people running to help spread the word, potentially get advice, and anything else that may help them in their goal to continue to serve our nation, now as an elected official. I think we can all agree that if Congress had more members who wore a uniform at some point, our country would be better off. I know these …

Although I know this storm's been mentioned in the Election thread for potential impacts there, it looks like it may have other impacts. Numerous states and the District of Columbia have already declared emergencies in advance of the storm, and many places are expecting long power outages, flooding, and even blizzard conditions. Here's a pretty good graphic that succinctly describes why this storm is bad.

Barbara Boxer: Please Call Me 'Senator' Posted: 06/17/09 Filed Under:The Capitolist Overheard at a Senate hearing yesterday: "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it." --Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to Brigadier General Michael Walsh during Senate hearing Tuesday, when he the general repeatedly said, "Yes, ma'am," and "No, ma'am," when answering Boxer's questions at hearing she chaired on New Orleans' levee system. I originally posted this as a response to the New Weapon School Patch thread, but moved it so as to not draw too much from that discussion. I absolutely wish I was joking about this.

So it's been banned at numerous colleges. It's been banned for sale at Hurlburt. A member of a MX squadron on base drank two, and woke up in jail the next day. Apparently he had consumed two, drove his car from the dorms to Destin, got naked and didn't remember a thing. With an alcohol content equal to five beers and the caffeine that equals a couple cups of coffee I am pretty interested, anyone out there try this stuff?

Foglesong resigns as MSU president Breaking News: Foglesong resigns as MSU president By Annie Mitchell Institutions of Higher Learning Friday, March 7, 2008 3:16 PM CST Jackson - The president of Mississippi State University has resigned, effective June 30. Following a meeting with MSU President Dr. Robert H. “Doc” Foglesong and an emergency teleconference meeting of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Thomas C. Meredith announced his acceptance of Foglesong's resignation. “This is a major loss for our system and for Mississippi State University,” said Meredith. “Under Dr. Foglesong's leader…

I brought this topic up elsewhere with military pilots I know, and it turned into a pretty good thread. A number of them are airline Captains and provided great perspective. I doubt I'll see anything new here... but since it was quite a fun and lively discussion, I'll ask. "Center the bug"... it's what airline pilots do, right? When you roll out of the turn in LNAV, you put the heading bug at 12 o'clock. "A married bug is a happy bug." "Heading to follow..." In 28 years as a military pilot, I seldom cared where the heading bug was if I was navigating on something other than a heading. In the U-2, I bugged my flameout heading. On final approach, I could bug…

Situation: Three Co-pilots co-sign a leese to rent a huge three bedroom home...no homo. Property manger finalizes the lease on Wednesday, "John" moves in all his stuff on Thursday and settles in before deploying Tuesday. Tuesday morning rolls around, Adam gets a call from the property manager saying, "You need to vacate the property, the home owner doesn't allow roommates." Silence ensues. A meeting with the property manager reveals that the female owner of the home, an officer in the Air Force herself (probably pilot), understands that it sucks you are deploying and can't move your stuff, but "I don't care, get out of my house by 1 Feb." -All three roommates signe…

As we are getting ready to crank engines this morning we here an unfamliar callsign on ground. I look over to my left and see a beautiful P-51D rolling into parking right in front of base ops. Jack Roush, owner of Roush Racing, and 'Gentleman Jim' paid a visit to the ole' Selfridge Air patch today. I didn't have my camera with me, but that beauty is burned into my memory. That piece of art looks like it rolled of the line yesterday... It got me thinking, anybody else have any cool warbird stories? Mine was not that cool, but it was such a great site to see something like that before an eval. I would have given my left nut-probably my right one too-if Jack would h…

Currently I am waiting to go to OTS and just a little confused about how a CCW works in the military as well as for my civilian spouse. Do I keep my current state of residency and not have to register for a new one moving to different states? Or do I have to register it at every state that I move to? Also how it works having one on base. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

I don't want to make this part of the thread discussing the loss of the fine gentleman who died during the L-39 portion of the Quad City airshow. Here's my question(s): It's 2012. We no longer have to convince the public that our Hisso-powered JN-4's are safe for them to ride in at the state fair. While I'm all for freedom and entertainment and cool airplanes flying close to the ground, Hasn't this gone too far? Haven't too many good people died just so Ma and Pa Kettle can be entertained? Is one human life - or even an airframe - worth ten thousand snap rolls at ten feet? Is the military's funding in danger of being cut just because a couple of thousand peopl…

I did a search and didn't see anything on this. I'm not one of these extreme "prepper" guys who wants to stockpile tons of food and weapons, but my wife and I were discussing the idea of having a few weeks/months supply of food in case of emergency. I was just curious if any other guys on AD have attempted this...and how does it work when you have to PCS every 3 years? I'm guessing you could put most/if not all of it in HHGs if you were under weight allowance. I have heard that the mormons stock up to one year...but have never asked any of the bros how/if they did it.
