Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  1. Above! Russia May Target U.S. Sats With Laser Jet The notion isn’t as fanciful as it sounds. Back in 1984, the Soviets trained a laser on the Space Shuttle Challenger, which it believed to be an orbiting spy. The laser “caused malfunctions on the Space Shuttle and distress to the crew,” according to Jane’s Intelligence Review.

I have a bunch of issued uniform items that I either never used, were the wrong size, etc. Along with about 2 pairs of brand new boots I bought years ago that just don't fit right. I could try to sell them but I dont have the boxes still. Not looking to make a profit, just wanting to get them out of my possession. Obviously dumping them off at my local goodwill is not an option. Are there places it is OK to donate these to, on base?

  3. If anyone knows how to get in touch with Robert Sweet, former A-10 pilot and former 476th FS/CC, can you PM me? Looking to do a story on Steve "Syph" Phillis.

What does your squadron use for a beer light? I'm going to build my squadron a new one (really just "one" since our "beer light" is basically an announcement in the building that the non-existent beer light is on) - got some plans in mind - but just curious what you have in your squadron bar/ops desk area.

Happy Turkey day to all you fucks. My wife cooked the 12.5 turkey in 2 hours, should be interesting. I love AZ Thanksgiving, 81/sunny and possibly pool time! Is anyone doing anything interesting? I'm thankful for BQZip's mom.

Was going through the news the other day and saw this. Not only no more lard for the monument climb, but the superintendent is thinking of dumping it altogether because of "unnecessary injury risk" and thinks that it will eventually "not be very interesting." Eventually we'll all be filling out hurt feelings reports, and maybe allowed to have some cookies and milk (although that may be a choking hazard) after flying our most recent sortie on Microsoft Flight Simulator. I'm sick and tired of the war against traditions in the name of PC or "safety" issues. I suppose I'm not the only one out there though...it's just not the same AF (or military, for that matter) I had rea…

For the last couple years I've been a disciple of Maker's and all of its greatness. When doing a little research today I found that Maker's produces a 101 proof Bourbon and packages it in a gold-tipped bottle. Supposedly they still make it but it is no longer sold in the US, but can be found in Japan. So has anyone seen this stuff anywhere and more importantly, how much would it cost for you to ship me a bottle or two?

Ever since I have gotten out, I miss getting my daily dose of what is going on in the world (from a military intel standpoint). Does anybody out there know of or use any good intel sites (obviously unclass)? I still have access to Earlybird...which is just basically news clippings and I use sinodefence.com to keep up on Red China. FAS isn't bad, just a little biased.

https://www.sfgate.com/sfhistory/article/mysterious-disappearance-of-william-hughes-17351393.php?IPID=SFGate-HP-CP-Spotlight Things must have been wild before the digital age, when you could just go start a new life somewhere even if you're a wanted criminal. It also brings to mind this tragic story about the drone Captain who went AWOL and died in a shootout just north of San Francisco a few years back. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/15/us/drones-airstrikes-ptsd.html

Might be travelling through Spain TDY in the near future and was looking at getting from Rota to Morroco via rental car/ferry. Anyone done this before? Seems like it should be pretty easy and staight forward. Does this require a civ passport or can this day trip be done with NATO orders and a military ID?

I LOVE BaseOps.net, but even the squadron bar thread requires some semblance and order. I understand that most are still active and will have apprehensions about airing their own laundry, and that you can delete your posts and take 'em back. There're things that don't fit GD or SB categories that need some of our input and that require a man/flyer's opinion. The intent is to keep things between the seriousness of GD (how we do our job) and SB (boobies, beer, and more boobies), probably the information that is most relevant and useful, maybe with a touch of the honesty the we/I put into how tasty a beer or scotch is. Rebuttals? Mods?

I figured everyone could use a good, light-hearted laugh at the expense of a complete dumbass. https://www.foxnews.c...test=latestnews SEATTLE — Seattle police say a man who thought he was a ninja was impaled on a metal fence when he tried to leap over it. An officer who was looking for an assault victim nearby Monday night heard the man screaming for help. 23. A long time ago someone posted a powerpoint presentation that was given during a retirement ceremony. If I remember right it was something along the lines of: Things I learned in the Air Force. It was a humorous presentation and essentially ended with something like "And everything can be briefed using Powerpoint, even a retirement" Does anyone have this ppt or can help me find the thread that had it? I UTFSF and google-fu to no avail.
