Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

So I was thinking to myself while riding the elevator, wouldn't it be sweet to have an F-16 roller coaster. Basically, the person gets in the cart which is a replica of an F-16 cockpit, they get in and buckle up and there is even a canopy that closes on them... Next, the ride consist of a mock F-16 ride (Of course, what else would it do?). The ride will consist of F-16 maneuvers, from dog fights to vertical climbs and even some upside down action. Could even take it to the next level and have another track unconnected to the riders track, with a fake bandit going around as if you were chasing it in a dog fight. The two carts will get so close that they look like…

Thought I'd pass along a new book to the baseops.net masses, Two days of Rolling Thunder by Robert Deas. A fantastic read with a new twist on the "Thud pilot in Vietnam" theme. Like many of you, I've read several very good books on flying F-105s in Vietnam: When Thunder Rolled, Thud Ridge, Pack Six, and others. To be honest, when I first heard about Two days of Rolling Thunder I wasn't really all that enthusiastic about reading it -- after all, what could this book cover that hasn't all ready been done (and very well) by those other books? Well, I'll be frank -- this one knocked my socks off. What's different is that this is a "there I was" story of a different c…

... at least according to this individual. https://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/01/28/california-teacher-slams-military-members-as-lowest-low-in-classroom-rant-caught-on-video.html According to the El Rancho HS website, he can be reached at work at 562.801.7500... then dial 0... then dial his extension of 57003. I'm guessing he had a lot of calls today, since his voicemail is full and not accepting any more. I'll try again tomorrow.

Before I start with pics, I thank all of you for their extraordinary support and prayers. It felt like this was a never ending journey, sometimes struggle, sometimes even mental torture, but it is all over now. We can all celebrate now.... I am tired, exhausted but I am a US citizen now. The banner is proper... Now, first a bit history of the whole ordeal... I applied for citizenship in September 2005. I was stationed in Korea, and my application was based on my military qualifications. It was supposed to be a very straight forward process, however it turned out to be the quite opposite. After I had my interview and civics test in June 2006 in the US, I waited a…

Found out I'll be at Maxwell through deer season. Does anyone have any good info for non-resident white tail and possibly hog hunting in AL? I'm down for driving anywhere in the state on the weekends. I'm not much for outfitters (don't desire to pay $1400 for a white tail hunt), but if that's the only realistic way to hunt I am not against it, assuming I can find something reasonably affordable. I appreciate the help any of you can lend. Also, if anyone else here is going to be in AL for the first month of the early gun season, let me know if you want to put a trip or two together.

I'd like to present a motion to remove the JQPublic Forum from BODN. I think JQP started out with an excellent mission - an insider exposing the many faults of our great service. However, I think it's very quickly morphed into a for-profit enterprise, with a diluted mission, and a very low signal to noise ratio. And now a pop up to ask for money. Exhibit A: Nothing more than a PA press release Exhibit B: Shameless paid advertising Exhibit C: More shit not worth reading Can I get a second?

I want something to use in the car in the house and in a boom box for camping, etc... easily moved inbetween. My truck has an mp3 player port on the front of the stereo (like one of those headphone jacks)... I have never ever even looked at satellite radio before - I don't know how much they cost or which service is better. Also I have no clue who makes the best equipment for the stuff I want to do. I did hear that they are both trying to merge into one company... Please opine

So obviously there are dudes living around the world and flying around the world here. I figured we should list our favorite cities and why, maybe someone gets a good idea. I'll go first... If you're single, go to Finland. Now. Unless you hate tall smoking hot blondes who think Americans are a commodity. I went a couple weeks ago and every single bar I walked into someone said "are you American? What the f are you doing in Helsinki? Let's have a shot!" The stereotype that Fins are quiet, reserved, and keep to themselves I found to be absolutely untrue. Recommend going in the summer...it's light out from 3:00am until 2:00am or so. I imagine the winter is about the …

So enroute to the AOR on the rotator, we had a layover in an undisclosed country in order for them to crew change and fuel the bird. Thinking nothing of it, I left my PSP and peripherals in the seat. Come back out to the plane, GONE. The "airline" in question's response: tough shit, we don't reimburse for our shady characters taking your things. So take from my $700+ lesson and secure your stuff on your person, even when you are on the rotator and think that maybe, for some reason, your stuff might be safe.

Link The ACLU is suing the Department of Corrections and warden of Wyoming State Penitentiary because Muslims are having to skip meals to pray. So they have a choice. Copy. Why should they be exempt from any rules? I'll try that if I go to prison. 'My religion says I'm not allowed to be locked up. Can I go now?' I wish I had people delivering food to me 3 times a day. I bet their rooms even have a window. I have an idea that will allow you to keep all of your rights... DONT BREAK THE DAMN LAW AND GO TO PRISON

I have a request for anybody at Columbus (CBM) or in AETC (ATC back in my day) Here goes, Is there any way I can find out how many students started in my UPT class. We were class 87-04, we started in April 1986 and graduated March 13, 1987. Its a Mystery to all of my classmates as to how many started UPT. We estimated it around 70 studs but the numbers vary widely. We graduated 27, but a few were washbacks from previous classes. I called te base library, and the historian, but they never returned calls. So my question is, are there records that show how many students started out?, and how can I find them? Thanks to all in advance. Vito

Some Saudi prince is offering RSAF "pilots" (I guess that WSOs don't qualify) a Bentley each in return for their participation in the Yemen bombing campaign (which they have ended without having actually achieved their objectives). AFAIK, no caveat is in place about them actually having to have hit their targets. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-32417773

Saw an IG meme summarizing a recent event at Littlerock. Sounds like leadership was down on their hands and knees pleading for pilots to stay and not go to the airlines. Anyone that was there have first hand intel? It’s a glorious event if true.
