Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

The preliminary report of the Swift Air 737-400 crash in Vilnius has come out and the report indicates that the Pilot Monitoring (which was the Captain) accidentally shut off Hydraulic Systems A and B while trying to turn on the Engine Anti-ice. Both the Anti-ice and Hydraulic systems use the same lever-lock switches instead of red guarded switches for the hydraulics seen on other aircraft and the hydraulic switches are just below the switches for the Engine Anti-ice. The overhead panel layout shares the legacy design of the first 737 produced which had the option of having a Flight Engineer who would sit in the jumpseat. The overhead panel allowed easy acce…

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/government-considering-purchase-of-military-jet-aircraft-1.4289801 So they are thinking, probably not gonna buy methinks but if they do decide to acquire Air Defense and Sovereignty capability and you were the decision maker, what air platform and air defense systems would you choose? As Ireland is not a member of NATO, there is no reason (technical compatibility, treaty or politically) they could not buy from Russia, China, whoever... JF-17 with Israeli or Italian avionics & weapons?

ADMIN NOTE: The drone posts from the NASA WB-57F and Iran threads were merged into this one. As they were transferred based on their time stamp, CH's original post for this thread is now on page 3 (sorry CH!). A link to this was added to those threads. ~ M2 The NASA WB-57F aircraft made the news after it was revealed that it took part in collecting data on Drone Swarms off the coast of Virginia in the vicinity of Joint Base Langley. The WB-57 has probably one of the longest service careers in the US Military, it was originally a licensed built bomber from Martin Aircraft and based on the English Electric Canberra and was one of the first US jet aircraft to dro…

"If in 10 years, all American troops stationed in Europe for national defense purposes have not been returned to the United States, then this whole project will have failed.” Eisenhower in 1951 I saw this morning refusal to refuel USN ships from a Norwegian company https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/03/01/mike-lee-calls-for-exit-from-nato-after-norwegian-fuel-company-stops-refueling-u-s-military-ships/ I’m not sure the US doesn’t have interests in Europe or should not have some military commitments/alliances but perhaps NATO really has out lived its purpose, perhaps a more focused alliance of the US and perhaps the UK to the nations of Eastern Eu…

So I remember Trey Gowdy talking about this. The right of the press to exercise their freedom has privileges but comes with responsibilities. When they become irresponsible they should lose those privileges. The latest example of that would be the reporting on the shooting in Columbus. We could go back to the reporting of Trevon Martin, or even further, and many stories in between as other examples. Is this not akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater? This is a tricky situation because I don't really want the .gov to be able to shut down a news outlet because the party in charge will just shut down the ones that disagree with them.

In what is perhaps the most dystopian thing Biden and his extremists have ever proposed it appears we will now have a Disinformation Czar that falls under the Department of Homeland Security. Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that his agency is creating a “Disinformation Governance Board.” Is anyone paying attention? Does anyone care? If you swore an oath to the Constitution you should be appalled and shocked. The proposal gives this board the ability to regulate free speech, to take down websites, to control what the press reports. For the record, previous organizations like this only existed in Russia, Nazi Germany, Iran and North K…

I could have sworn there was already a discussion started on this somewhere buried in another thread but I can't seem to find it. Is anybody else starting to think this plane might never fly again? The fact that what Boeing keeps calling a simple software fix is now going for at least 16 months before recert by the FAA (assuming they don't delay it yet again this summer) doesn't inspire much confidence. Not to mention the other issues that keep cropping up in the news. Some of it I'm sure is not that unusual and is only newsworthy because of the grounding but it's a pretty bad look. I hear lots of people claiming they won't ever fly on a MAX but I don't really believe the…

Great video by Juan Brown of the Blancolireo channel of the shoot down of the E190. There was quite a lot of confusion prior to the incident with the Russian ATC controllers not understanding that the GPS jamming wasn’t allowing the crew to accept RNP and RNAV approaches.

hello, im in AFE trying to be a fighter pilot for my unit, and im looking to get the pilots upstairs some alcohol for the Hollidays. I thought it would be a good way of getting my name out there more to the pilots I haven't met yet and just to be a team player. this question is more towards fighter pilots, but if you drink a lot and know the goodies, what kind of drinks, ie. whiskey, vodka, Jeremiah weed, etc. was the best you've had? I want to buy something that they would enjoy, but not spend too much mula. I appreciate your guys' help. happy Hollidays!

I decided I wanted to see just how good the newest AI models were at coding (spoiler alert, incredibly good) and reconstruct the program with all the bells and whistles and a unified login system. I'm probably about a day or so away from beta testing, so if anyone would like to use the program, just send me a PM and I'll get you and your spouse set up with accounts. 25. A flight carrying the Auburn basketball team had to declare an emergency after a fight between player broke out while airborne. One player was "bloodied." The initial report was "roughhousing got out of hand." The message forums are hilarious saying it was the result of a three way love triangle where two of the players were hooking up with each and one got caught with another dude. Whatever happened mist have been quite a brawl to declare an IFE and ask for police to be waiting when you land.
