It may not be the entire Air Force, but I'll tell you something that's wrong with ACC: ePEX. We've had it now for what... 20 years? And it's getting worse. Holy shit, PEX is literally killing those that use it daily. Our entire Information Technology enterprise is a mess. The AF puts the "IT" in "shit".

This GO met with each new class of PIT students to remind them there is zero tolerance for sleeping with students or doing weed. Can’t wait to hear what the misconduct in question ends up being. Who knows, maybe he just made the mistake of voicing out loud that there are two genders..

One does wonder, if Trump had been reelected, touting "his" vaccine (developed in Operation Warp Speed under his administration), would vaccination trends be reversed? The only time in my life that I've woken up around 1000 local, in a parked cab, in an alley with the driver reading a newspaper, was in south east asia. I had no idea where the rest of my crew was. That's strange, I hadn't gotten the shot and they still sent my ass to Afghanistan after a ridiculous quarantine in the deid in 2021. I'm torn on this - Yes if the "kid" is not an adult. My parents raised me in a family of eight, my step dad retired as an E-6 and was the only earner in the household. We were not well off. I went to college and grad school on a scholarship and went on to be a relatively successful member of society. My middle brother is in prison for a lengthy term and has been in and out since he was out of high school. My other brother is a 1stLt in the Marine Corps and also a productive member of society. That being said, I am 100% for personal responsibility. It is the responsibility of parents to raise their children to be productive societal members, but the best laid plans...

It's a shame our military compensation system creates an incentive for young enlisted folks to get married as soon as the possibly can. Live in a dorm room with drug sweeps at 3am, some asshole reving his Charger in the parking lot at midnight, and leadership randomly dropping by to see if you've dusted and mopped...all while sharing a bathroom with a kid who plays WoW 16 hours a day and has pizza boxes stacked to the ceiling (a ceiling covered in black mold, BTW)...or get married and move into an apartment off-base, away from your leadership's invasive inspections and your retarded dorm mate's behavior?

War is horrific...simply horrific. I remember my first few missions and the metric of success was always the number. We count everything, crap many of us growing up who dreamed of flying wanted to be an Ace because we thought that was the top of the glorified pyramid. In time and as I flew more missions and my "number" became stupidly high...(on one misisons I killed 32 men in 8 minutes)...I had to stop counting. Yes they were evil people who deserved to die but it was still someone's brother, father, son, cousin...and I didn't want to surrender my humanity in the process. I PRAY my son never has to see the horror of war. While I cheer the Ukrainians it is not lost on me that the ones dying are not that ones that caused this horror. Yes the Russian troops are committing atrocities but this is not a simple good vs bad situation and a lot of young men and women (and innocents), are dying because of a diabolical human in Moscow. I hope Ukraine kicks the snot out of the Russians and they flee back to Russia and I hope it all ends right there. At the end of the day we all do our duty, and I did it very well, but we don't have the celebrate the carnage

oh no you don't...we KNEW pretty early on that covid was statistically a non event for young, healthy people. and turns out Fauci and his buddies at Pfizer KNEW it didn't prevent the spread...we were told straight up lies and coerced into taking a shot that provides zero protection and is very harmful...latest numbers i heard were 1 in 800 have side effects. that is a very high number and this shot should NEVER have been MANDATED. so don't give me this 20/20 bullshit....the warnings were being issued very early on but FUCKING CENSORED

Of course there is WORKING for your money, which I know is an absolute last option in today's America. I washed a lot of airplanes to fund my PPL when I was a teenager. Another good option I found if you have Mechanical skilzzzz is to apprentice with the local A&P, that way you are both learning about the airplanes you will be flying as well as making money TO fly.

Unless you are at Sheppard. Then it is actually 40% of your assignment. So if you do AMAZING in T-6s you can be below average in T-38s and still end up very happy on assignment night.

I am a member of an AETC unit so I have no deployment requirements. With that said, I am working this process right now for the 5th time. I have found it best to get permission from the boss to contact other units to see if they need help. If you are in Guard unit you can find out which units are in the AEF bucket for the time you want to be gone through your logistics plans office. Call the units directly once you have that info. They will use your help, just remember that there are alot of folks making the same phone calls right now because there are no man days out there other than deployments.

Since you said you were a young pilot, I will assume for the moment that you are an O versus an E. Pretty safe assumption. First, you don't volunteer to help other units through AFPC. Those are usually deals that are worked by the squadrons or OG's. Second, where are you located? I'd love to get orders there so I can sit out a couple of deployments. Last, if you are going to talk to AFPC, then make sure you have talked with your supervisor and CC first. All officer assignments, 365's, etc are routed through the Sq/CC. Nothing a CC likes more than getting a phone call from the guy working the desk at AFPC telling him that one of his pilots has volunteered for everything under the sun and the guy hasn't even stopped by to chat. Good way to end up on the radar and not in a good way. The only real advice here: If there is a unit out there that has folks that are exhausted in it, figure out which unit, see if they'd be willing to have you deploy with them, work out all the details and take that to your CC. Tell him you are a volunteer and see what he says. Are you at an associate unit or at an active duty base? E, H or J qual'd? I may be able to steer you to a unit that will take your help. Edit: Can't spell good.

Best advice I got prior to UPT: Study NOTHING ahead of time except for Boldface/Ops limits. You'll be given time to study and and know everything you need to know after UPT starts, and studying ahead of time will in no way minimize the number of late nights spent studying stuff for the first month of T-6's. Enjoy your time on casual!

Flying scores are more important than test scores. Somebody who has seen the layout more recently than me can give specific percentages, but it was something like 40% checkride, 30% daily ride, 20% commanders ranking, 10% test scores.

Having also sat on both sides of this, let me give add to what Toro had to say. -As a student, don't dwell too much or stress yourself out on this process - concentrate on what you have control over - your own performance. What I mean is stuff outside of the cockpit. It's all common sense, but to reiterate: have a good attitude- be positive no IPs are going to put up with a bad attitude or a whiner. Also, be a BIG team player - help out your flight, pass on the gouge, help the weaker guys, etc. Lastly, put out a BIG effort - never, ever, let it seem that you did not give over 100% whether it be for a test, flight, additional duty, snacko, whatever - what I mean is that perception is everything -- you do not want to be perceived as the guy that doesn't give a crap or that puts in minimal effort... I know this sounds trite, but it is dead on accurate. I have seen the whole spectrum of "bad attitudes" as a student and IP -- complaining about being behind (i.e. not flying); whining about the leave policy; backstabbing classmates in order to beat them; disrespectful / unofficerlike; late for class/flights; the list goes on and on. Hope this proves helpful...

Having sat on both sides of this, I can give a little perspective from the instructors. As Ryan said, your flight commander should give you a mid-mass rank where he ranks you as top, middle, or bottom third. I don't believe it's mandatory, though, because we skipped it several times just due to being so busy. On the final ranking, he should give you your actual position in the class (if not, it will go on your 1122 as Ryan said). And like PAB and Bergman mentioned, the top and bottom are usually obvious with the middle being the difficult ones to decide. The rankings usually involve all the instructors in the flight and start with the easy choices - picking the top one or two, then picking the bottom one or two. On occassion, we'd argue for over an hour trying to rank order the last four or five guys. This is where your attittude and 'officership' comes into play. Neal and Bob may be running neck and neck until IP #1 says, "Yeah, well what about when Neal aced his formation checkride and didn't pass the info to any of his buds, and somebody hooked for the same EP." Wham, Neal goes to the bottom. Also, IPs are very aware of things you may not realize - I couldn't stand dudes who brown nosed us, then were dicks to their classmates. Straight to the bottom of the pile. Also, we've ranked people in that middle portion based on what type of aircraft it would get them. If a guy was good enough to graduate, but we really didn't think he belonged in a fighter, we'd rank him so he'd get a bomber.
