I've spent a fair amount of time around the airshow circuit, with pilots that perform with what many of us would consider "reduced margins". When things don't seem right... when you're not "on your game"... when you don't feel you have the ability to safely perform a demanding routine and the consequences are significant... you step back and say "today, I will stand down.". I've done it myself in the airshow industry... and I (and many of us here) have done it in our day-to-day operations with extremely expensive tax-payer-bought gov't aircraft. If someone at Red Flag exceeds RM tolerances and says "not today, folks", are they ridiculed? I really don't know much about Biles, gymnastics, Olympics sports... and I really don't care. But having watched the stuff she does, it is highly dangerous/risky. If she isn't on her game, she would be foolish to continue and risk a serious injury. Most of us here have impressed on our kids that they must "complete what they start". They don't want to play soccer one weekend when they would prefer to go to the zoo... well, you made a commitment. Instilling in them a sense of responsibility to the team is a far cry from insisting that they push through something extreme/dangerous when they KNOW they cannot succeed. If Ms Biles says she isn't up to performing the crazy shit she does... that less than 100 people out of 7,000,000,000 on the Earth can do... then, she should walk. And give the middle finger to anyone who objects.

Good lord. Currently the Australian military is patrolling the streets like some dystopian movie to ensure citizens don't leave their homes, and here you are making snarky remarks like that. Millions of people have genuine doubts and concerns about this vaccination, as well as everything they've been told about this virus by the government. My entire family has been vaccinated, but I fully understand why some people have elected to avoid the jab. They have very valid concerns, and a government that changes the playbook every week is not helping.

I've said it before on this thread but I'm going to say it again because people are making the same mistake again: Stop conflating vaccine safety/effectiveness with dumb leftist public health policies. Vaccine safety data exists and it is very convincing. The infertility concerns have been roundly debunked. Serious side effects have not manifested in statistically significant amounts after literally billions of doses have been administered. As a young person, your odds of dying from covid are very low. But based on all available data, your odds of even a moderate adverse vaccine reaction are orders of magnitude lower than that. And the vaccine buys you robust protection against very unlikely but very catastrophic outcomes. Based on everything we know, this vaccine is safe. It has nothing to do with whatever fauci is flip flopping about on the news every night. It has nothing to do with how you feel about mask mandates and how each state's governor is handling this. It has nothing to do with bad DOD policies either. If you can't separate legitimate vaccine data from the political food fight going on, perhaps it's because you get your news from a talking head with a vested interest in perpetuating said food fight. You are free to do whatever you want at the end of the day, but I am confident that for most people, taking the vaccine would be the obvious choice if they could just mentally separate it from the political baggage.

This is the fundamental disconnect. Some agree with you. Some think the primary purpose of government is protect its citizens rights.

Not wanting to join an argument. I'm stuck in the middle on this. 1. Its becoming more clear that the virus escaped from a lab. 2. 2-3 months into this there already is a vaccine ready for testing? 3. This tech for the vaccine has been around for 20+ years but this is the first go at it with a vaccine 4. If the tech has been around so long why dont they use MRNA for the Flu? They can develop a covid shot but not malaria? or other viruses? 5. teh covid stats are of 100 ppl, 60 won't know they have it, 28 mild symptoms, 12 hospitalized, 1 might die. Now we have breakthrough cases....is hte vaccine even working? 6. there was a mom in her early 30's now paralyzed after the shot and I guess a few others. Most likely would have been fine having covid. Not worth it to them. 7. Now the Lamda variant in S. America escapes hte vaccine. 8. the media has made this a cash cow selling death. More ppl are dying of murder than covid in major cities now. All that being said one can easily justify being hesitant vs the vaccine. Im glad its available and if i were older id be on it.

I'm starting to remember why I tapped out of this discussion a few pages back. People happy to use analogies when it suits them, bitch about analogies when it doesn't. I cannot fucking wait for this vaccine to be mandatory. I hope a bunch of you put your money where your mouth is and get out when it happens. I would love to see any data the hesitant people in this thread have that is telling them getting the shot is not worth the risk. And before you repeat it for the millionth time, let's hear something other than the, "I'm not in the at-risk demographic" argument. It's not true. You are at risk. The risk is very small. And the vaccine can reduce that risk even more. You also aren't statistically likely to have an engine fire in the jet tomorrow. But you practice the boldface and do testing every month and do EPEs every year. It blows my mind that aviators are failing to understand this basic risk management concept. Just because something is very unlikely to happen doesn't mean we throw up our hands and ignore easy ways to mitigate it. Other arguments that don't constitute data: -heebee geebies about a hypothetical vaccine side effect that manifests ten years from now -microchipping -DNA modification -infertility rumors that have been debunked As far as I'm concerned the only argument against getting the vaccine that holds any water at all are people who are positive they already had covid and are coasting on natural immunity. 1.) Anthrax; over 100 years. Dozens of GAO reports still report long term and dangerous side effects from the modern version which was researched in 1955 and not forcefully administered until 1997. 2.) Polio; Over 20 years before trials on the modern solution began in 1955. Tragically trials in the 1930s killed or paralyzed dozens of people including children. 3.) COVID - 1 year of data now. Great job. You have to be trolling at this point, you use an example of two of the most dangerous and controversial vaccine programs ever administered.

Please explain how it makes less sense. The vaccine is still under an EUA, not fully approved. Neither you nor any medical experts can say with 100 percent certainty that there will be no long-term side effects. Many people who are less at risk have made a simple risk calculation and concluded that they would rather take their chances with the virus. You can disagree with that risk assessment, but their decision doesn't make them an anti-vaxxer.

I would wager a large majority of people who aren’t taking the covid vax aren’t anti Vax’ers

Currently stationed at Langley. York County has best schools for elementary age kids. If you want to avoid a long commute, don’t live across a bridge or tunnel. Williamsburg is nice, but looking at 40-45 minutes depending on construction or accidents. Personally, I think this is one of the best locations I was ever based. Lots of outdoor and historical things to do.

He didn't ask how to report PIC time for the airlines, just if he can log PIC. He said he has a CPL which I assume is his commercial, so he can log PIC a multiple of ways. To reiterate, he can log PIC as the sole manipulator of the controls if he's flying while the instructor is in the aircraft, and he can also log PIC when he is soloing since he already has a ticket. And having a commercial ticket means you can log time in a high performance, complex aircraft. The only caveat would be if there is a type rating associated with the aircraft, which in the case of the T-6, doesn't exist. To echo Brabus, airlines don't dictate how PIC time is logged, the FAA does.

Have you ever really had commanders like that? I’ve had a bunch of commanders and not one that would go out of their way to punish you if you stood up for what’s right. I’ve had some great ones and some real turds, but nobody truly vindictive. No shit there I was…when I was teaching at the WIC we had a commander who had never been a black border previously and made a big deal about getting the real experience of earning a black border and not just pencil whipping it. He was a previous DO and had a notorious rep as an asshole. He gave a brief that wasn’t up to the standard to the cadre (who was grading him) and asked for feedback. One by one the cadre told him how good it was and gave him glowing reviews on the grade sheet. It gets to me and I told him how that wasn’t up to standard and I hooked him. I said that if a student did that, he absolutely would have hooked and that’s not passable as an instructor at the WIC. There was a gasp in the room because he had a reputation as a hard ass. Fast forward to the standard one on ones with squadron members and he asked me why I did that. I told him my job is to produce the best Patches that I can for the combat squadrons and uphold the standard. He said thank you and ended up making me the #1 guy in the squadron as a brand new Major. Nothing bad happened at all and it helped the cadre realize that “selection is every day”. I don’t tell that story because I’m so great but I truly think if you do the right thing for the right reasons, you’ll be fine.
