https://www.airforcetimes.com/articles/are-the-f-15-eagles-days-numbered https://fightersweep.com/7388/air-force-considering-retirement-f-15cd-models-mid-2020s/ Real curious what insight the experienced crowd has to these articles and any idea if it's even feasible or just another cage rattle like the efforts to retire the Hog. TLDR: General tells HASC today that big blue can replace 15's with Vipers.

Hi everyone, I have been debating for a little while going into the guard/reserve. Currently I am working as a regional pilot based out of O'Hare. I am 27 and hold a bachelor's degree but my GPA is sitting at 2.6. I served 5 years in the Army guard as an engineer (enlisted). For my total time I have around 1700 hours with roughly 600 in the CRJ. My questions to you all is, do I stand a chance? I really don't care what I fly, heck it can be a Cessna 172. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I know that air warriors is supposed to be the forum for naval aviator questions but I could not find anything on this. I was wondering what aircraft the Navy is handing out during track selects, I assume they hand out a lot more helicopters than the AF does? Was curious how many fixed wing, non fighter aircraft that they drop or plan to drop in the next couple of years. I see that there's a big order of P-8A Poseidons for the Navy. Anyway, just weighing my options between the USAF and USN, which one might be better for a pilot slot? Thanks.

100 T-45 IPs are apparently refusing to fly because of fears over the safety of the jet's OBOGS. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/04/04/navy-instructor-pilots-refusing-to-fly-over-safety-concerns-pences-son-affected.html I am curious to know, is there something about the effects of this OBOGS issue that somehow makes it different to the Raptor's OBOGS issue? While I appreciate that one is a training asset, the other a front-line operational asset, it just strikes me that response from the two communities is startlingly different. In one case, an entire community refuses to fly, prompting a 3-star Admiral to publicly state that there is no policy of 'F…

With this major shortage of pilots that the AF is currently dealing with, is there any hope of a FWQ course or equivalent ever returning? How about a transfer from Army C-12's? I know this topic has been covered before but info changes over time.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/04/13/politics/afghanistan-isis-moab-bomb/index.html Was the MOAB created to be dropped on an ex wife when she divorces you, takes your kids and favorite dog, then she takes half of your retirement? When the AF first revealed and tested the MOAB at Eglin, North Korea was acting up. The irony...

The forum has been particularly active lately with several of the threads talking about the same, similar or tangents of the same topic: the current version of the Air Force is broken and getting worse. Symptoms of this are being discussed: pilot retention being abysmal, anecdotes of oblivious attitudes to operational support from different nonner shops, the somewhat desperate move(s) to change conditions outside of the AF or close off opportunities outside the AF to "encourage" retention, the threat of Stop Loss being publicly (if mistakenly) discussed and the indifference expressed by previous leadership, not really rebuked by current leadership, etc... If …

For those on AD, I take it you saw the AFPAK Hands solicitation we sent out today. I hope you give strong consideration to volunteering. We are ramping that program back to full capacity, and A1 will facilitate. ISIS is altering the battlefield and we must have many, many more air power experts on the ground with long-term continuity, earning the trust and respect of the tribal leaders, especially in the remote mountainous regions of both countries. Many amazing carrots to participating: attend NIU for IDE, work at the Pentagon with some of our greatest minds of our time, free language training, and likely early promotions to both Lt Col & Col. Finally, a real sh…

I think joint basing would work and save money if independent auditors were allowed to select the most efficient way of doing things. Either combining the AF and Army way, choosing the best process from either branch, or doing it a completely different way. Imagine airmen having having to cut grass in front of their respective buildings like the Army. What are your experiences on joint bases and does it work?https://www.google.com/amp/www.military.com/daily-news/2016/10/06/army-chief-calls-for-joint-basing-review.html%3Fvariant%3Dmobile.amp

Ok guys, serious post for once (yeah, shut-up haters; you loved it the past couple of years). Tony recently published an article on his site about dealing with toxic leaders to fix the Air Force. I look around my aviation community (remaining unnamed to protect the guilty), and I just don't see it. Guess I'm either lucky, clueless, or one of the culprits (again, shut up haters. Actually trying to be serious here). Who's in a community out there that actually breeds multiple toxic leaders? Is there a root cause or is it a conglomeration of problems? Is your community on the upswing or trending downward? Conversely, who is in a community with leaders…

So I read this the other day: The U.S. was supposed to leave Afghanistan by 2017. Now it might take decades. and since the forum has been active on Afghanistan related subjects, namely AFPAK Hands, and the basically universal consensus that it is a waste of time, I wanted to start a discussion on whether or not it is time to leave and if so how? Leaving gets misinterpreted with defeat in battle, not so. Leaving means the completion of our military training mission, determination that our rebuilding & stabilization mission has run its course and that it is time to redeploy our forces & people to the northern part of the country, former Northern Alli…

Guard member, PCSd from HOR to UPT base in Feb 2015. Got paid for PCS in April 2015. October 2016, I get a nasty gram in the mail from DFAS saying they paid me twice for my PCS, and are collecting the debt. No phone number or person to call, just DFAS mailing address. I also got a 'Travel Voucher Advice of Payment' online, showing a travel voucher debt. Jan 2017 they collect the 'debt' from my paycheck. The AF never paid me twice.. I have all the bank statements to prove. When I submitted my voucher, I believe finance modified the voucher to remove UHaul insurance, and refiled it. I went to local Guard Finance... they said I'd have to go over to the ac…

First "Phoenix" program worth considering, if it comes to fruition. Though if the Air Force actually pays airlines not to hire younger guys, that will create a shitstorm like no other. Look at the newest gem the AF is hinging on to force us into the roach motels (attached and copied below in case the attachment doesn't work): So now we can't stay in Airbnb/crash pads because they weren't booked in DTS nor are they fire compliant. Who the $%*& is leading this push against us staying in decent places? Anybody else getting this letter in an email accompanied with the statement that the Air Force has to reimburse you but you will now be punished by your commander if you elect to stay in these places? MEMORANDUM FOR ALMAJCOM-FOA-DRU COMPTROLLERS AFIMSC/RM ALL WING AND SQUADRON COMPTROLLERS FROM: SAF/FMFC (AFAFO) …

How would someone with active duty and reserve service accurately calculate their TAFMS time? Prior to commissioning, I served four years on active duty and five years in the reserve component. When I in-processed at Laughlin about three months ago, I discovered what I thought to be a discrepancy on the DD-214 issued to me prior to departing OTS. It reads that I have 7.5 years of TAFMS. I brought it up with the MPF here and they started a CMS case. That case made its way to AFPC and they confirmed that I have accumulated 7.5 years of TAFMS. I did complete two long formal training schools and a few sets of lengthy orders while in the reserve, but those points only add up t…
