Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Did a search, came up with nothing. Anybody lived in Clovis who can give me a good idea of what the cell phone service situation is out there? I'm looking to get rid of Sprint and maybe get an iphone but when I look at the coverage maps it is less than stellar, considering I'd have to roam on someone else's network (not sure whose). Thoughts?

Has anyone completed any advanced education and sent their transcripts to AFIT? According to their website, you just send your transcripts to their address or e-mail address and they will update your record on vMPF. It's been a few weeks now since I sent my stuff over and nothing is updated. I did get an e-mail the day after I sent the transcripts saying AFIT had downloaded my transcript. What kind of time frame have you guys seen for them to update it?

Did a quick search and haven't seen this posted here. If so, delete thread and I'll shack myself. This was linked on another board of mine. Some pretty cool pics of present-day Ho Chi Minh trail. The locals obviously haven't taken heed to the warnings in their UXO CBTs. https://www.laosgpsmap.com/ho-chi-minh-trail-laos/

My squadron just moved to a new building with no provisions for a bar. Currently, we might have enough room to construct a bar table with a couple of taps, but a room dedicated to a squadron bar would have to wait until we went to J's. Since I'm starting with a blank canvas, I'd like to hear what you guys have seen in your squadron bars.

The preliminary report of the Swift Air 737-400 crash in Vilnius has come out and the report indicates that the Pilot Monitoring (which was the Captain) accidentally shut off Hydraulic Systems A and B while trying to turn on the Engine Anti-ice. Both the Anti-ice and Hydraulic systems use the same lever-lock switches instead of red guarded switches for the hydraulics seen on other aircraft and the hydraulic switches are just below the switches for the Engine Anti-ice. The overhead panel layout shares the legacy design of the first 737 produced which had the option of having a Flight Engineer who would sit in the jumpseat. The overhead panel allowed easy acce…

Anybody else watching and enjoying the soccer currently being shown on ESPN? I grew up in Pakistan and Taiwan so played soccer my whole life and really love it when we get some good soccer on ESPN. I personally think Croatia was screwed with the extra time in their game/match against Turkey. But how can you not be excited about Turkey and their 3 come from behind victories so far. If you like soccer you've no doubt enjoyed some great soccer so far!

Not sure this belongs here, but then again, where better than the Squadron Bar - whether an official one, or at your home? Via Christina Olds on Facebook: How many pilots know that Robin Olds was also a terrific artist? My dad humorously doodled and sketched his way through classes, briefings and meetings during his entire career. People have often asked me to share his drawings and I have finally put a few of them on my artist site at Fine Art America. Here are only a handful out of the more than 500 he left with us. So, if you want just a notecard or a big poster for your Squadron Ops room, have fun looking at these. I love his irreverent and usually politically incorr…

Looking for some feedback and solutions of others. I have a lot of porn....errr personal files and I am looking for a backup solution that is safe and allows for world-wide access. I am not a big fan of the cloud services...giving big tech all my data is not high on my list and personally I think there will be a large cloud cyber attack in the near future. I've looked at several home cloud options and have ruled our Western Digital after the big hack and some nefarious nonsense around requiring hard drive replacement every three years. As of now I am thinking the Synology DS1522+ which I would set up as a Raid 1. We have a lot of old family pictures and vid…

Edited by a prominent AQ sympathiser in North Carolina, and will no doubt be a big hit with Johnny Taliban and his mates: Jihad Recollections - Issue 1 Issue 1 contains such gems as: 'Staying in Shape Without Weights' (ideal for those Mujahadeen who don't have time to visit the gym), and 'Four Practical Steps to Expand the Global Jihad' (for all those extremists who want to kill the unbelievers, but aren't quite sure how to go about it). Sounds awesome!

What's going on with this "news" circulating around decentralized video platforms about some of the best pilots in the Air Force quitting on refusal to get the vax? Some of the F-22 fighters and a B-52 crew. I think this is video that started it: https://www.bitchute.com/video/jUM7R4Z0hELi/ Then saw it on infowars. But there doesn't seem to be any verification.

Whoever said that Fairfield wasn't straight up gangsta?? The funny thing is that we drive through some of those streets on our way back to the base from Chipotle. If you're ever in the area on a RON, remember that Fairfield south of Air Base Parkway is not where you should be after the sun goes down! Ref:

https://neveryetmelted.com/2009/08/28/cbs-knew-george-w-bush-volunteered-for-vietnam/ CBS Knew George W. Bush Volunteered for Vietnam CBS, Dan Rather, George W. Bush, Mary Mapes, Media Bias, The Mainstream Media line Bernard Goldberg reveals a major detail disclosed by CBS’s investigation of Rathergate which the mainstream media for some mysterious reason has never considered worth reporting. Dan Rather is suing the network that employed him for 44 years, asking for $70 million dollars in damages. Technically, the lawsuit is about a dry legal issue — breach of contract. But it is also about something much more personal to Rather: his legacy. It is…

Not normally a baseball fan but the regionals were full of drama this year with the #1 and #2 schools both getting knocked out in the first round of Regionals. Also some drama with some of the Florida schools: 1. FSU made it to the Super Regionals but not without the star pitcher caught on film telling a Mississipp State layer to “Sit down… sit the FUCK DOWN. lil inbred bitch.” How nice. 2. Next up Was U of Florida and their lunatic coach Kevin O’Sullivan who had an absolute meltdown when his game was delay one hour. The University justifiably forced him to apologize and karma hit him twice with the Gators knocked out in the Regionals when they were expe…

Trying to find the name of, or a link to, an old Nat Geo/Discovery channel style documentary about some Green Berets who were scouting out a road in Iraq when some farmer's kids found 'em and called the Iraqi Army in on their position. Just so happened there was a flight of F-16s going by who heard their cries for help on the radio and cluster bombed the fuck out of the Iraqis right as they were moving in on the friendly position. This came up in conversation today. I remember seeing it as a kid clear-as-day but I can't find it for the life of me now. Googled the crap out of it but no luck, just a bunch of cell phone video of GWOT stuff and one about a guy who used a…

Can anyone read/translate French? If so, I'd be grateful for a transcript of the linked story: French news story re WWII fighter I helped a French maritime archeologist [sic] ID the wreck of a US fighter, actually a borrowed British plane called the Beaufighter. This particular squadron, the 417th NFS ( much later commanded by Chuck Yeager and eventually becoming one of the F-117 squadrons) had a bad string of crashes while based near Marseille, France.* In the general area where this wreck was found, there were two possible suspects. One where the crew ditched and got out, one where the crew didn't. I helped (think checking records, not diving on the sit…
