Barely missed? His own vice president shot him down. He lost in every court his legal team entered. It's amazing how we always seem to be on the precipice of catastrophe, yet never fall over the edge. Perhaps we're not as close as our emotions, and political puppeteers, lead us to believe.3 points

I'll be completely honest, I'm sweating mostly because I didn't do my best work. Fact is, my PCSM is coming in below average compared to last year for Pilot, but above average for the rest of the positions - but I wouldn't rate my odds of accepting another position high. I'm in this not entirely unique but uncommon position of having been a UPT med-dq re-applying to go back. Of course, that's captured in my form, personal letter, LOR etc which I would say overall are pretty solid. But for some reason, I let myself be convinced that for that reason I didn't need to re-do my TBAS or AFOQT since 1) they were good enough the first time and 2) I was afraid of taking them and getting a lower score. Now I'm beginning to think I probably counted too much on my prior-UPT experience and whole package, and probably should have put more emphasis on the score itself. Of course it's too late now, but I'm hoping this doesn't become that thing I always look back to as an example on why it doesn't pay to become complacent. Not that anyone asked... just venting to get those nerves out! Edit: on rereading this I'd like to emphasize this ain't a pity party. Just recognizing that I'm sure lots of us are having last minute "what if" thoughts. I will emphasize that any failure is mine and mine alone, of course. And any failure is a growth opportunity and all that good jazz.2 points

@takingamessage glad to see we're all being relaxed and professional about this. While refreshing the portal and the forum on the minute and getting no work done at all this AM.2 points

See? That's why I totally wasn't nervous this weekend or dreamed of not getting my first pick last night. Nope, none of that from me, because I totally wasn't anxious about the results coming out today. And Tuesday I'm sure I will also be stoic and composed the whole way through.2 points

That sounds about how the T-6 GPS acquisition process is going to work....now that we can’t fly GPS approaches expect a ridiculous contract for an inferior product, all in the name of mission essential. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I’ll admit I’ve been sweating the results. I know how my scores stack up to previous averages but I have no clue what is going to happen this year with there being a potential fewer slots.1 point

Who wants to live in Atlantic City anyway? (hint: no one does). Go get picked up by JAX or Portland to show em whose boss.1 point

Ok now that’s just a bunch of trash. After all those years enlisted with them they thought you weren’t dedicated?? Best of luck with Vermont, I hope you get it so you can stick it to them. 😉1 point
-
I wish that's how it worked! Essentially I was told that applying at 26/27 (interview was just after my birthday) that it didn't show dedication, and I should've been applying 3 or 4 years ago. The applicant pool has gotten much more competitive especially with ROTC being allowed to go straight to guard now, so I was only in the top half of applicants he said. He was a prior enlisted crew chief as well, I thought I had a good shot, but obviously not a guarantee. I was told to do some soul searching and consider active duty because at my age it'll be hard to get fighters. Feels real bad man, but getting the VT interview definitely has my hopes at fighters back in the reality realm so I'm chugging on. I absolutely agree though, that they don't owe me a thing. I was given a job, a valuable trade skill, free education, and two bonuses in my enlisted career, they've given me a lot already.1 point

It's death by a thousand paper cuts. So long as China or Russia doesn't do anything egregious that directly impacts the US, they can move slowly towards their end goals. Just like Germany did just prior to WW2 before they invaded Poland. Even then, we didn't get involved in directly WW2 until after Pearl Harbor. We don't have a strong response to them because we don't have the national will to do so, which stems from how our society is set up. Loose vs tight cultures is an interesting theory that can explain some of our struggles. Loose cultures tend to accept or tolerate more deviations from social norms. The benefit of this is it fosters and accelerates creativity and invention (leading to economic and standard of life improvements), but the downside is it makes it harder to recognize and unite against threats to that society. (This is also IMHO one of the underlying/fundamental conflicts between conservatism and liberalism within US politics) As crappy as this is going to sound: in addition to forward capability and rapid initial responses, forward bases/troops provide justification for US involvement if they are attacked, or worse, lost. For example, I don't think we'd really do anything militarily if China invaded Taiwan (aside from upping posture within PACOM), except strongly protest the action in media and at the UN, and economic sanctions. However, if there was a USN vessel sunk in the crossfire, it'd likely be used as a rallying point for direct military intervention (ala Gulf of Tonkin).1 point

Of course the game is rigged. She checks two important diversity boxes, and she was solely hired off that. She wasn't the best person for the job, and it currently shows via her buffoonery on social media.1 point

Listed at 3.8 million so the AF price would probably be 5.8 million a tail but even at that cost replacing the 178 Jayhawks in service today would come to 1.03 billion, spread that over 5 FYs. Fight like hell heavy aviators to keep a decent advanced trainer for heavy / crew tracked students or the Bobs are going to take your red stapler and put you in the basement with a can of roach spray. If by some miracle a follow on to the T-1 comes about, call it the Swingline and paint it red1 point

Currently an active duty AH-64E Pilot for the army as a commissioned officer. Looking at opportunities for IST to the Air Force to continue my aviation career. Looking for thoughts and anyone with past experience with this and could lend a hand. Thanks!1 point

My home unit turned me down after an interview too. It definitely sucks (like it feels really bad on a super personal level), but at the end of the day I don’t think I was owed anything. Being home grown definitely helps in landing the interview, but once you’re in front of the board everyone is equal and you have to convince them you’re the best.1 point

Did all of the available B-1 fleet at Dyess get generated for the one in the flyover?1 point

I disagree. AC should have hired you as a homegrown applicant. Doesn't send a good message if they don't hire their own, especially with great scores, unit experience, etc. Did they explain why they turned you down?1 point

No interview. I received a TBNT from VT this week. I have (from memory) 99/97/93/96/73 on the AFOQT, 90 PCSM (w/ the 23 hrs I had when taken) and 74ish hours now and a PPL. I am also 28 years old, which is a factor with some units.1 point

That weekend was cancelled 24 hours prior due to a COVID outbreak in the unit. As far as I'm aware there were no in-person visitations this year.1 point

We ain't gonna do shit in Thailand or Myanmar. Complicated situation and everyone sucks. We are lucky CG is still going on uninterrupted in Thailand. Thailand - Been under human rights scrutiny since ~2014, new King and PM are both unpopular. Young people want to overthrow the government. The student leaders are arrested. Heavy COVID impact. Soi Cowboy is empty... Myanmar (Burma) - ASSK got released from prisons, partners up with the Junta to shit on the Rohingyas and is under human rights scrutiny. The Junta arrests ASSK and putting down mass protest.1 point

Congrats! I have a 99 pilot, 96 nav, 95, 79, 97 with a 99 PCSM with 1251 hours. But I have no military experience. Were you able to visit VT back in October? I'm wondering if that made the difference1 point

Only went there for lunch when I was in the area... Too far of a hike from Whiting, and if you're going to make the drive in a Friday night as an LT, might as well go elsewhere in town. Sounds like I missed out. Maybe next assignment... Man, did you miss out. That club was packed on Friday nights, from old WWII and Vietnam pilots to the current crop of instructors to students at all phases of training. It was a wild time.1 point

When I was being court martialed for a crime I never committed, I had people turn their shoulder to me. I had people talk shit about me to friends, family, even some people on here on other online forums. Thankfully, I was found not guilty of the serious stuff, but found guilty of the typical malicious overcharging that the JAG Corps likes to do. During the sentencing phase of my court martial the best squadron commander I ever had, now O-6, wrote a letter to the panel saying: ”People are not the sum of their mistakes.” After my discharge board, and being separated less than four years from retirement, I was the lowest of the low. I had senior Enlisted, Officers, JAGs tell me that I would never amount to anything. No one would ever give me a job due to a court martial conviction, etc. I even had a FGO that told me I should just kill myself now instead of making my family go through pain of watching me to turn into a homeless drug addict statistic. I thought about it, and almost did it. But I remembered that saying my former commander said. I decided I wasn’t going to let my mistakes define me. This May I’m graduating from Georgetown with my Masters in Cybersecurity. I just was accepted into an aviation and space doctoral program at Oklahoma State. All paid for by the VA’s Voc Rehab program. I make way more money now than I did as a MSgt working in the KC-46 program as a contractor. I even have a security clearance. What I learned along the way was not just resilience, but I was humbled. I learned a hard lesson that your life can be taken away from you, either by the judicial system, or by those who doubt you so much that you start to doubt yourself. But in the end, you are not the sum of your mistakes, regardless of whom you are. I’m not religious, though I grew up Catholic, but to add onto that quote from my former commander is: 2 Timothy 4:7 ”I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith." To those of you who had the honor of being a commander, and allowed people to rebound from their mistakes, thank you. You’re appreciated more than you’ll ever know.1 point

Yes, there was a significant backlog, however that logjam is getting much better. That said, I've seen a number of solid applications floating around, so I think you better get yours in the moment the Chief of Recruiting says to do it. It used to be you submitted the app no earlier than 12-14 months from a potential PCS, but you'll need to call and see what the latest is. DSN 368.4447 and speak to Maj Lang. I recommend emailing him also if your call goes to voicemail. He has been in that seat a while and is moving on very shortly. Not sure who will replace him, but the phone number is good. Moose is right: the "advice" and "perceptions" I've heard from outsiders on the U-2 Program has often been inaccurate... to say the least. The U-2 is definitely not for everyone.1 point

Not sure I understand the question? Rates aren’t locked in until you go under contract to buy a house. We don’t charge any fees so any difference in the APR vs rate is the VA funding fee and any settlement fees charged by the title company. If you’re exempt from the funding fee and you don’t pay a settlement fee with the title company then 2.25% would be 2.25% APR. APR isn’t a thing in our world really because we don’t charge any fees to our clients1 point
