https://www.cnn.com/2015/06/30/asia/indonesia-military-plane-crash/ About as bad as it gets. Couldn't help but notice the article says there were 110 passengers and 12 crew on board. Seems high for a 130? Or not?

Police are on the search for a group of thugs/anarchists who surrounded and attacked an Air Force pilot in Olympia, Washington. The service member has not been identified but it has been confirmed that he is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The pilot came under attack when he was riding his motorcycle through downtown Olympia on Saturday night. According to the police the protestors surrounded him when they noticed that the pilot had two Confederate flags on the back of his motorcycle. After ripping the flags from the back of his bike they beat him with a bat and smashed a glass bottle over his head. They also attempted to knock his motorcycle to the ground while sp…

A quick search didn't show any results for info concerning Holloman, so I'm starting a new thread. Wife and I are headed to Holloman in a few months for B-Course and are trying to figure out whether to live on/off base and if off, where the good places to live are, as well as any useful info for the local area.

What do most guys do for computers at UPT? Is it advisable to grab a good laptop that you can take with you to class, or just stick to a desktop in your quarters?

Two weeks ago I found out I lost my WSO slot but will be going to Intel Training instead. It's an acceptable trade. I'm actually very excited about being part of the intelligence community. Does anyone know much about Intel Training? How is San Angelo? What types of drops are there out of training? I'd really like to get into the special ops side of the intel world, specifically at McChord. Is there anything I can do to get there?

You don't here much of FRED on this board so this might help someone who is in UPT.This was off on another forum. I got my C5 assignemnt to the west coast 2 years ago. It was my third choice after C-21 overseas and C-17 McChord. For the amount of bad press Freddy gets, it's actually a pretty good deal. For one you don't deploy. The infastructure required to keep Freddy flying and the fact that it has a huge range allows it to fly out of home station downrange and back in 2-3 days. No staying in tents, the per diem is great, and crews stay nice places (with the exception of Moron which sort of sucks). Also, Freddy tends to only break in non-crappy locations. The missi…

Hey y'all. I have a situation. I am in pilot training for a Guard heavy unit...and track select pretty soon. I have the opportunity to switch over to fighters, one unit is in the same state, another is in another state. I believe I would get hired by those two units to fly fighters, however, I have to have my unit agree to release me. How likely is this, and really, am I just going to end my career, and get released if I even try? I dont wanna piss anyone off too badly. Thanks alot for any insights. [ 02. How often do you run into a pilot on active duty that could be a top notch officer, but doesn't fit the role of pilot well due to attitude or personality issues? Currently I know of a cadet who will be going to ENJJPT once she commissions. She is certainly a top notch cadet when it comes to everything that factors into pilot selection, but I have a VERY hard time envisioning her dropping ordinance on another human being, regardless of how vile an enemy. In addition, I wouldn't have much confidence in her reaction to a life or death situation in the cockpit since she seems to want to fly because in her mind it will be all fun and games, not realizing it could be fatal…

Actual exchanges between pilots and control towers Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!" Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digital watches!" ***************************************************************** "TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees." "Center, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?" "Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?" ***************************************************************** From an unknown aircraft waiting in a very long takeoff queue: "I'm f...ing bored!" Hey ya'll, I am going to be studying in Vienna for a month this summer and then traveling for a week with some guys around Europe. We will be heading to Amsterdam for a couple days which brings me to the question, is there anything that I need to watch out for that could hurt my eligibility for UPT? Obviously I don't plan on smoking pot there, but is there anything else I need to look out for (is absinth a problem, I don't know much about it)? Also, any tips or must see things while I am there? Thanks ya'll

Since I am not getting the money for college that I was supposed to get, I am considering enlisting in the Air Force for 4 years, get out, use my GI Bill, go to college, and then come back as an officer. The only AF jobs that are available to me, and the ones that I'm interested in, are (2T0X1) Traffic Management, (2T2X1) Air Transportation, and (4Y0X1) Dental Assistant. I was wondering if anyone in-the-know here can fill me in on these positions, maybe give some pros and cons. Also, is it worth keeping my car if I enlist or should I sell it? I know I probably won't need it if I get deployed, but then again I don't know if I'll be deploying whole lot with either of these …

I'm perusing 11-217 and came acorss the multiple applications for the 60:1 rule (descent gradients, pitch changes, arc to radial lead points, airspeed conversions, distance from VORTAC, etc...) When going through Phase II, did any of you frequently use the 60:1 rule? Which applications were used the most and which were disregarded (if any)? Thanks. Just trying to get a feel for whether the 60:1 rule is simply a helpful learning device or if it is something that is required to be learned and implemented. [ 05. For the non-huey folks out there, when you have to stop in hurry, does the rotor overspeed? If so, what can you do about it? In the N model, we can crack the throttles, but what do you do when the throttles are overhead? Thanks
