General Discussion

Discuss general topics in the Military and Aviation. Please post pilot-selection & "how do I get a pilot slot" questions in their appropriate forums.

Once upon a time a pilot found a beautiful princess and asked her, "Will you marry me?" The princess said, "No!" And the pilot lived happily ever after and flew jets all over the world and drove hot cars and chased skinny long-legged big-breasted flight attendants and hunted and fished and went to topless bars and dated women half his age and drank Weihenstephaner German beer and Captain Morgan and never heard bitching and never paid child support or alimony and kept his house and guns and ate cold leftover meals, potato chips and beans and blew enormous farts and never got cheated on while he was at work and all his friends and family thought he was frickin' cool as…

  2. Could someone please write something interesting on this topic? Anything. I'd really like to learn something. Just please don't write anything about flightsuits, hats, or ROTC, and try not to turn it into a pissing match. Or you could also write about how important the FE is...(just beginning to realize that myself) Not a Herk guy? Feel free to write something cool about your airframe. Thanks! Just trying to swing General Discussion back towards intelligent commentary. [ 14. September 2005, 18:26: Message edited by: Rocker ]

How do we make a patch that is obviously copying a well-known, trademarked brand, without getting fined/imprisoned? Seems like every patch out there is a clear violation of copyright laws, yet somehow was approved by both a patch company and a chain of command. But Mardonco just told me they wouldn't do our patch because it would be illegal. ? Thanks.

THE COST OF BEING A PILOT.. But then what? Once you pass the check ride and get the license, what comes next? Often it is the desire to get an Instrument Rating. But then how do you justify another $6000 - $8000 in expenses to get there? How do you get past the almost $9000 in expenses to get that Private Pilots License. Most people answer the good old fashioned way, save up or get two jobs. We do a great job promoting General Aviation to get to the Private Pilot level..but then what? How many of you have had that pilot as an Instructor or Check Airman with 4 or 5,000 hours and they are in their 60’s. So this is why I am writing about this topic. Those pilots, t…

For those who own or have owned a plane what type of yearly costs are you looking at? Any unforeseen cost that you didn't factor in initially?

I've read in earlier posts that there are interservice transfers for winged aviators. But if they didn't already fly fighters, their only hopes were heavys and helos. But, is it possible for an interservice transfer from let's say, a non-pilot Coast Guard officer with 3 years, end of commitment, to transfer to the Air Force and go to UPT and not be limited to what aircraft he/she can select?? any info would be great.

Making this thread to have a standalone thread to share information and discuss the looming forced covid injection of service-members. With the heads of the DoD and CDC (to include the rest of the federal government) having so far demonstrating themselves to not only be completely incompetent, but actively aligned against the Constitution and the People, we must legally take a stand against this tyranny. https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/pilots-key-mobilizing-against-military-covid-vaccine-mandate/ Article written by Pam Long, a graduate of USMA at West Point and is an Army Veteran of the Medical Service Corps. From BBC News A Nato aircraft has crashed in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a Nato spokesman has said. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties. The crash was not the result of enemy fire and the plane which was supporting a Nato mission in the area was not a fighter jet, Maj Scott Lundy said. Nato forces are at the scene but there is no word on how many people were on board. A large Canadian contingent is based in Kandahar province. To the fallen Cooter [ 02. Just wondering if Creech guys are still getting incentive pay? I know it's spelled out in the 36-2110, but I had heard a rumour that congress had unfunded it for FY12. Before anyone goes aggro I did try the search function, and I'm trying to find out how big of a former pornstar mansion I can rent.

Criticizing maintenance got airman ousted By all accounts, Adam Lucero was a hard-charging airman. When he didn’t make it into a summer camp for the Air Force Academy, he enlisted at age 17 through the Delayed Entry Program and had his staff sergeant rocker by the time he was 21. But Lucero, now 24, dreamed of going to Officer Training School and earning his pilot wings, so he poured himself into his work and studies, hoping he could one day fly the fighter jets he maintained at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. That same passion, drive and singleness of purpose may have led to his downfall. When he discovered what he considered to be unsafe maintenance practices by …

Hey guys, I'm putting together a CRM PowerPoint for my squadron. I'm looking for some videos that I can incorporate into my slide show, specifically the Tenerife disaster that shows computer graphics w/ voice. I've seen it in a ton of briefings but, can't seem to find it now that I need to put one together. Any relevant videos/information would do. I'm most interested in two-person crew information.

How much leeway does the student have in deciding where to go on a cross country at pilot training? Does the IP assign a destination or can the student have input? I know it probably depends on the IP and what phase or track you're in, but I'm wondering if the student can plan a XC to somewhere they want to go (within reason).
