  10. The people that said “it’s not about the money” are the ones walking out the door to airline jobs. It’s easy to make such an assertion when you know you are financially set. Additionally, if the airlines were simply offering a better lifestyle, but for lower pay, I can guarantee you wouldn’t see this many people walking out the door. Final note: don’t expect anything to get better. The only way we will see drastic change is if the USAF literally breaks. I need a GD drink.

Call or email the squadron PoCs and talk to them, interact on this board with as many folks as you can and make quality posts letting people know who you/why you want a spot/that you're not a tool, and attend rush/drill weekends if they offer and have convos with squadron members. You don't have to always be selling yourself; just get to know them and let them get to know you organically. You'll get out of it what you put into it and, for me, networking was one of the biggest leg-ups of the process.

  12. Maybe these abysmal take rates will actually get HAF to take an actual look at compensation, like the rumors of Professional Pay I have heard at MAJCOM. Two years of saying "it's not about the money" and yet all the Aircrew Retention Crisis Task Force's efforts in quality of life/deployments/additional duties have done absolutely nothing to slow the loss of pilots. We'll have the same approximately 150 pilot net loss for the year. Everyone I know who goes to the airlines mentions two things: tons of money and free time. So to act like money plays no role and completely ignore it has been idiotic by HAF.

  13. I'm right there with you man. Expecting my second rejection on Tuesday. Hoping it isn't as painful as the first time around but sure it's still going to be a kick square to the junk all the same. Hopefully they're offering continuation. Since that first rejection and post stages of grief, it's been liberating to no longer chase after that next "must do this for promotion" job though. I'll always do what needs to be done to not let down my unit or Bros but I can focus on doing stuff that's more meaningful to me and prep for life post USAF. It's also fun speaking ones mind with little fear of pissing off the boss, cause what's he gonna do, not promote me? Best of luck in figuring it all out though, it's never easy.

  16. Not my place to offer advice, but... That check of the month club is not something to just write off with 4.5 left. Hurts now; pays off for a lifetime later (been there, done that). Not ever a 14N, however, there are lots of either meaningful and/or personally rewarding niche jobs out there for 14Ns. Worked with 'em lots - Green door stuff, three-letter agencies, etc. that The Man has to fill but doesn't care about. Get in there or somewhere like that, do a good job, and your post-AF career will take care of itself. The clearance(s) and contacts are worth $$. Don't just toss 'em. This isn't about The Man anymore; this is about you and your family and what is best for them. If you have post-AF plans/dreams, by all means, disregard all. If not, set yourself up now for doing well after hanging up the uniform. Big Blue doesn't care now and won't then. Hang tough; it's not personal (however much it feels that way), just numbers on a excel somewhere.

  19. From my experience, if you are 2BTZ, you know you are 2BTZ. Again, just my experience, but, if you don’t have a bunch of tier one #1 strats, DGs, exec/aide time and served in specific jobs (I can only speak to the 14N career field on that one) then you won’t be 2BTZ. The few records I’ve seen of 2BTZ officers stood out as 2BTZ (not that it needs to be said, but a lot of them weren’t “good” officers).

  24. Before your first interview. No matter how good a person is at interviewing they can always polish it up a little more. And why wouldn’t you go the extra step with consultation? You’ve already put in all this work so far. I wish I had done consultation from the get go. Woulda saved me a lot of money getting hired after the first interview instead of after 8

  26. There are dudes wearing A2CUs on the HAF and Joint Staff... to work in the Building - GOs included! If your local leadership isn’t letting you wear them based on the 1 Oct wear dates, someone is making up guidance... While that may very well be the case, and their prerogative, it is outside the intent. 1 Oct wear dates apply to any and all previously issued OCP variants and those being issued now. It’s a uniform like any else. YMMV on what constitutes “flight duties” (he said remembering how everyone played Dodge Blues-Monday during the Schwartz regime...) Chuck

As a very general statement, you'll likely get to have more life experiences outside of "home" on AD in terms of living in other countries/states, mixing up the assignment type, etc. But, there's a whole lot of bullshit that comes along with that. It was great when I was young and didn't have kids, but by the time my oldest was 4, I didn't want to spend another day on AD. There are a lot of opportunities in the ARC to fill random jobs in USAFE, etc. So the adventure and moving around can still happen, it's just not automatic - you'll have to put in the effort to seek out opportunities and make them happen. The best part - you'll only do it under your own free will and more or less on your timeline. That kind of power to make the choice is worth a lot...there is no such choice on AD.
