Great Work 48th FW I'll happilly make the 6 hour round trip to film/photograph you guys again, so feel free to offer any headsup in return for hopefully some great images for the squadron bar

So I’m sitting here at the gate on a delay at Logan (thanks Newark) reading the Bomber 134 thread and discussing it with the Capt and a C-17 taxis by. Odd for BOS but whatevs. Capt says “Do they use those for firefighting? Seems like those would be awesome for that.” Which got me thinking, with so many ANG units equipped with C-17s, are they going to adapt or develop MAFFS for that airframe?

Just saw the news that 19th Air Force Commander was fired (resigned, lol) for inappropriate comments made in an Air Force forum. Anyone know what he said? https://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/04/30/19th-air-force-commander-steps-down/26632917/

Delta airlines is the latest in not requiring a 4yr degree. It's preferred but no longer a requirement. The major airlines are pulling away all the stops in finding pilots to fill the vacancies for the foreseeable future.

I was just curious for the guys who have an engineering degree/ or pursuing and engineering degree. Specifically aerospace/aeronautical I'm interested in the above: What exactly are they? What classes are involved? Experiences you had? What you thought? I'm wanting to give myself options once I graduate to possibly going into test flying. And after that possibly becoming an astronaut. But i don't want to set a trap for myself and get bad grades because before trying to become a test pilot/astronaut I have to get accepted for UPT. And I'm not even sure whether I would like the course or not, I think it looks real interesting. Any suggestions that you could…

Looks like the USAF is on the hook to support a French deployment to the Central African Republic (CAR). Currently its airlift (C-17s) burt Tankers and ISR will probably follow. Chrstmas time in Africa :-) https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/us-to-fly-african-troops-to-central-african-republic-8994230.html

Some guy in California was just convicted and sentenced to 30 months for lasing aircraft. https://edition.cnn.c...l?iref=obinsite We'll see if he actually serves any of that time, though. I'm sure some slick lawyers are lining up to make a name for themselves appealing the conviction pro bono.

Has anyone been to Manas? I'm trying to find out what the current conditions are there. I will be heading that way at the beginning of the year and would like to get some current information. Do they have cellphones you can buy there? Do they work well? What are the rooms like? Thanks, Debbie

I am a 2014 VSP recipient that separated on Dec 31, 2014 and subsequently entered the IRR. I recently received a letter from AFRC informing me that I would be receiving orders soon to report to Patrick AFB for a "Mandatory Muster" in May. What is this all about? Has anyone else out there who has received the VSP been forced to attend one of these "Mandatory Musters"?Will I be paid for this? If I have to drop a 3-4 day trip at my airline job to attend this I will definitely lose a lot of money.

All crew safe. Tanker put it down in a field. Pretty amazing. Looks like possible single engine? Hard to fathom. https://news.usni.org/2020/09/29/marine-f-35b-crashes-after-collision-with-kc-130-over-california-all-aircrew-recovered-safely

From this morning's AFA Daily Report: Plan B: Procuring F-22s is a viable option for the Marine Corps in place of acquiring the F-35B strike fighter, according to one Marine Corps officer. Doing this "may seem like an extreme course of action, but it makes the most sense for the Marine Corps for several reasons," asserted Maj. Christopher Cannon, an operations analyst with Marine Corps Combat Development Command, in a September article in the Marine Corps Gazette, the service's professional journal. Cannon argues that the Marines could purchase F-22s for less than the F-35's current flyaway cost. Plus, F-22s would "cost less" to maintain than F–35Bs, he states, citing …

Hey Guys, Looking to gather some info on an upcoming PCS. There’s a potential to go on a marine exchange. Have any of you bros done one? Looking to see if it’s a good opportunity/QOL. Any general experience is helpful, however this is a F-35 marine exchange to be specific. Thanks!

Considering the discussions on the course at the JFSC and the kid getting all bent out of shape about not being allowed to wear the flag, I figured this deserved its own thread. Summary: the SQ had been the Crusaders for 50 years, changed to the Werewolves over concern that pictures of Crusaders wouldn't win hearts and minds, changed back to the Crusaders, then back to the Werewolves. https://usnews.msnbc....back-again?lite

I am a senior Captain selected to Major, on active duty in the USMC. I currently in my first year as an instructor pilot at the CH-53E Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) in NC. It is about that time in my career where I need to make a decision about whether to stay on active duty and push to retirement in the Marine Corps or start the interservice transition process for one of the above on the subject line. I have a buddy and fellow FRS IP that just went on terminal leave from the Marine Corps on June 2nd. He is getting ready to go to Vance in October for UPT. He started the process about a year and a half ago and is now part of the Wisconsin ANG where he will fly a KC…

Wondering if anyone else caught this. I don't know who's to blame more. The Marines or the guy taping this and leaking it out. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/01/12/panetta-orders-probe-video-showing-marines-urinating-on-dead-taliban/

Do you have to be married to your significant other in order for them to recognized by the Air Force, and also so that they can live with you on base if you so decide? I did a search, but couldn't find much on this. Thanks!

Does anyone have a good list of MARS frequencies?. Basically they are a civilian outfit sponsored by Sprint and they will give you phone patches to DSN or even long distance commercial numbers. It's great to call the wife flying over the Pacific. I have used it before and it works way better than triyng to wake the sleeping AF HF Freq's (In the FIH)that are a pain in the A#$.

The HF phone patch net handles official (commercial or DSN) and morale patches as well as radio checks for DOD stations worldwide with good propagation conditions. Cost of the phone calls are covered by the individual member. The MARS Phone Patch Net website has been redesigned for easier viewing and includes an article on net procedures and operation. There is a training video available as well as a flyer that can be posted to provide information to aircrews. Questions or requests like access to the FOUO video and current frequencies can be made through the contact form. The request should include a .mil email address. The website is at https://marsphonepatch.…
