they heard the jet's engine sputtering

Obviously the points needed adjusting. Mystery solved.

They most likely did not set the mixture full rich IAW the decent check. Fucking fighter guys, and the get a 20 year bonus.

I'm not an expert here, but would carb heat have helped in this situation? :moon:

Glad to hear the crew got out OK. Silver lining in an otherwise dark month plus.

Do fighter guys usually fly sanitized CONUS? Sorry in advanced if it is a stupid question.

WxMan

Yes. It is written in most standards that when a pilot is sanitized during mission planning and debrief, they can not be bothered with other tasks.

We bomber guys always called for 'rings, rags and tags' on the bus prior to exiting for the jet.

Even in E-3s, guys would remove their patches to keep the shoulder straps from staining the light-colored ones.

Does the plane have some sort of safety device?

"Something to get it to come back because it was weird to watch it turn all the way around and come back, but if it does, it's a good thing because it was headed for residential neighborhoods," added Hall.

If this jet had landed anywhere else, "pilot error" would've been all over the place. Now there's some sort of "safety device" that made sure it cratered into an open field. I wonder if that "device" is also called "pilot."

Fucking media.

Flew E-3's for 5 years, never once saw anyone do that...

Clean patches means you're new.

Glad they both got out okay and that the jet didn't get tossed into any of the millions of homes out there.

Agree with both points, and great news about the crew.

Maybe the pork falcon is different but in the Mighty Eagle the reflection off of the colored patches was all over the canopy. Made it annoying trying to do VLO. Easy fix. No patches. To each their own.

Maybe use a darker shade of pink?
