Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Many of you will know Huggy, so he needs no introduction here. Here’s Part 1 of my interview with him, released to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the U-2’s first flight.

2020 keeps delivering. Phosphine, a significant biosignature, has been discovered on Venusian atmosphere. News was leaked today with a press conference expected tomorrow. No known chemical process outside of labs or microbes is known to produce it. https://astrobiology.com/2020/09/phosphine-detected-in-the-atmosphere-of-venus---an-indicator-of-possible-life.html

From WOR: BENDING THE PRINCIPLE OF MASS: WHY THAT APPROACH NO LONGER WORKS FOR AIRPOWER Worth a read IMO; if you accept the article's premise that facing potential foes, China namely, that will soon likely combine mass with peer / near peer capabilities that will inevitably attrite and confound asymmetric capabilities used in lieu of actual mass, we will have to add mass to offset this. We have the quality per platform / person covered now we have to have more. Groking a bit on this, does this mean mass in platforms, weapons, weapons/sensors delivered/carried per platform, etc...? Probably some combination not in equal proportions and likely a platform/sy…

Hi everyone, just trying to find common ground with other people who may be in the same struggle as I am. 2020 has been a challenge—mentally, emotionally, financially, with my marriage, at work, feeling like the US country is being ripped apart before our very eyes and feeling the weight of all of it. I started submitting UPT applications Jan of 2020 and I put so much pressure on myself to get picked up for a UPT position because I got the flying bug, was dealing with extreme boredom at work with my engineering job, feeling unmotivated and not challenged, and wanting the excitement, community and team mindedness of being in the military and in a flying squadron. I know …

I am officially a has-been. My fini flight was this morning, retirement ceremony this afternoon. Bittersweet to say the least. Getting out of that jet for the last time was a bigger deal than I was expecting. It's been a good ride - 21 years in and 18.5 of the last 19 flying the Mighty-Mighty (quick MC-12 stint in AFG back in '11). I haven't been posting much, but it's about to get a lot less. Thanks to all the warriors out there; keep fighting the good fight. Now I'm one of those guys that thank you for your service. I probably won't buy you lunch though - I'm still a cheap-ass airline pilot. Do your best to keep this place following it's roots - he…

Hey gang. Finally decided to check the Masters box after my dream of getting my MBA at a brick and mortar school while still flying the line was dashed by COVID. Doing some research I came across Brandman university, particularly their MA in Organizational Leadership. LSS I was surprised to see they give you 15 credit hours upfront just for being an E7 or above, taking your military leadership training/exp to account. Which boils down to only needing to take 21 credit hours (7 classes) to complete the MAOL program. Does anyone have any experience with Brandman? Their MOAL program? Or know of any other similar programs that give credit for military leadership training/serv…

I've heard (read) a few folks on here say that they live in a rural setting or are thinking about living "out here." With all of the woke craziness going on, and more and more males in the world not really capable of accomplishing much in the way of taking care of themselves without relying on everyone else to do everything for them, I was wondering...how many of you live "out here." I wanted to live in a rural setting pretty much the entire time I was in the military, but didn't manage to pull it off. As soon as I retired, I fled the city. Life is a billion times better. Still have to go into the city everyday, but coming home to a rural setting is about as good…

Had an idea and looking for discussion on it. So a draft of the "best and brightest" is a no go and would never return to the USA unless the barbarians were at the gates, even then I think many would shirk it so if not their kids then their money... instead of a draft used to pull all of the socio-economic strata of America together to cause the connected, priviledged, wealthy and powerful to be cautious on the use of military forces (really conventional boots on mainly what I'm saying but applicable to other uses of Military Force to some degree) why not by law state all military operations outside of the CONUS (routine and contingency) be assed on personal income …

I'm planning a trip to Alaska in June with my dad and 10 year old son. We'd like to fish freshwater for salmon, trout, etc. We need suggestions on outfitters/guides. Ideally we'll find a lodge close to or even on the river we fish. Fly away day trips are an option, but no tent overnights. Google results are overwhelming and personal experiences are always better than anonymous reviews, so thanks in advance for your sage wisdom!
