Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  1. Hey guys, Apolitical question about our rules - I noticed a part-time Guard officer running for office who consistently criticizes the president. She has said some pretty inflammatory stuff about President Trump. Regardless of which side of the political aisle you are on, isn’t this completely illegal? Do Guard members fall under different rules?

A couple of days ago we lost Hervey Stockman. Sixty-eight missions flying Mustangs during WWII, one of the first handful of U-2 pilots including the very first flight over the Soviet Union, and later six years as a POW after his Phantom was lost over Vietnam. Salute, Colonel! From the POW Network website (who I'd guess won't mind being quoted...)

  8. Gents, As I sit here from my whiskey fueled perch, pondering the state of the nation, and pissed that the pats didn't lose, I'd like to ask your opinion. What if someone was to run for office on the following premise, accountability. "You all voted in to office people who got this business, our government and country, into mass debt, and continued war spending, monetary, and physical." (it's cumbersome wording, whatever, you get it, human cost) Those elected representatives (for the most part) have not served, their children do not serve, their peers do not serve, they do not know the cost of war. In order to get our country to be a solvent business, and our r…

Bush, Mary Mapes, Media Bias, The Mainstream Media line Bernard Goldberg reveals a major detail disclosed by CBS’s investigation of Rathergate which the mainstream media for some mysterious reason has never considered worth reporting. Dan Rather is suing the network that employed him for 44 years, asking for $70 million dollars in damages. Technically, the lawsuit is about a dry legal issue — breach of contract. But it is also about something much more personal to Rather: his legacy. It is…

  14. Started by Bode,

So I'm looking into purchasing some acreage up in New Mexico. I found a company that is willing to work a raw land mortgage. Their standard mortgage for this is "5 year Balloon Note (fixed rate for 5 years, balloon payment due upon maturity) at 5.75% (approx. APR 6.434%) amortized for 15 or 20 years." I'm not very educated in this department. Can some explain this to me? Also "Maximum Loan to Value 70%, 30% down payment required". Does this mean if I get appraised for more than my purchase price I can take the difference from the down payment or is it still 30% regardless? For example land value is $100,000 and I purchase for $90,000. Will I still need $30,000 down…

Not sure this has been addressed directly in another thread. After seeing a lot of reluctance to address religious convictions in other threads I figured we should have a place to discuss those separately if so desired. How does religion affect your views on your profession? On international terrorism? On DADT? On working with others who's views differ? Open forum for direct discussions of religion. Ask and you shall receive...

Apparently the Army is looking to relocate the Pentagon to western Kansas. "The move will take place in three primary phases," said Johnson. "Initially we will use a giant crane to lift the building onto a barge in the Potomac River. From there we will float the barge down the Atlantic Coast and into the Gulf of Mexico. Then, we will sail the Pentagon up the Mississippi River to just south of St. Louis. In the final stage, we will place the building on large flat-bed trucks and drive it the rest of the way." "We have sought the advice of the Navy and determined that we can just treat the building like a big ship as we move. All of the employees will basically be exp…

Anybody on here ever mess with a remote controlled plane? I can see the witty responses now (because I've got about five quick ones I could fire off), but really, what's a decent plane for a semi-beginner? I can learn quickly and have a little experience with these things. I was thinking of this airplane ( https://h1069956.hobbyshopnow.com/products/...sp?prod=PKZ1500 - or the Focke-Wulf 190). I don't feel like I need to get into a whole project of building one from the ground up just yet - just something I can get a little instant gratification from that performs well for around $200 or so. I do know one "senior leader" on this board who is a fairly avid R/C plan…

Don't agree with a lot of her politics, but this is pretty awesome. The guy she is talking to went to a West Point prep school, where he twisted his ankle (He went on to play QB at SanDiego State). He has claimed disability for it, and gotten VA small business preference, as well as the magical 30%. She totally calls him on it.
