Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I had COVID a while back and was laid up for a few days doing nothing but watching TV. Knowing that we have threads on what music to listen to after a few drinks and flying videos I thought I would share another way to pass the time that should be educational for all you SNAPs out there. Us old dudes didn't have the internet so we got our military SCI FI fix from a multitude of TV shows, thanks to YouTube many of them are available free for your viewing pleasure. A few of my favorites follow: UFO - You gotta watch this one, the story lines will crack you up, a moon base, submarine-launched rocket-powered fighter jets, and the girls all wear skin tight outfits.…

This has nothing to do with flying, but it's accesible from work, so I recommend you forward it to 69 of your closest .mil friends who have loud speakers. The humor is not so much in the presentation, but in trying to turn it off. 80s Rock - You've Been Warned! Hint: Windows Task Manager

Not a bad flick. I think the A-10 guys on here will like it. The opening scene shows a pack of 10's destroying a field full of satellites. Pretty epic footage. The story line and some of the action is cheesy, but over all it's a fun one time see cinema. Check it out if you get the chance. -yerfer

  8. Long story short...PCSing and the truck was supposed to show up this morning to load my house. Driver calls around 0730 to tell me he has a flat tire, will b fixed shortly and will proceed to my house. Call back around 0900, tire almost fixed, will be in an hour. Calls me around 1100 to tell me dispatch has sent him to pick up a small load then come to my house. Calls around 1500 asking for directions, I figure out he drove 16 miles past my house. Arrives at 1530 and begins to load my house. When they open the trailer I notice 1/3 of truck is full and I have a lot of crap. I specifically ask if they will get it al on the trailer "no problem". At 0200 ...…

So I'm sittin' in another fine training class today learnin' all kinds of great stuff. Fortunately, we have our laptops with us and are encouraged to take notes and look things up on the internet. As the blah-blah-blah goes on in the background, I work on answering my piles of e-mail and trying to get caught up on my OPR's. After I run out of real work, I notice an e-mail from a woman with the last name "Beaver". I chuckle and then get an idea...what other cool names are in the global directory? Here's some I found (look 'em up...they're all legit): Anita Hoel Anita Johnson Beate Cox Max Koch Doug Graves Hai Ho (Hai Ho, it's off to work we go...) Thai Ho (no sh!t…

Story is that the guy left some fishing bait in the plane...and a bear 'found' it. Not only do I love the duct tape job, but he still had the presence in mind to write his N number with a pen...you know...for legal sh*t and all that.

This is just a friendly reminder that nuclear warfare had its first of only two strikes on August 6th, 1945. This single event led to the cold war and the nuclear arms race with the Soviets. A toast to Tibbets and the Cold War warriors:

All right gents. I've got a three year old boy and his momma wants to hang (hanging model style)a cool airplane in his room. She wants it to be a cool biplane or otherwise early days of aviation rendition. She's pretty savvy in shopping matters but has met with no luck. I told her a SPAD XIII or a P-51 would pretty much be the true ticket of coolness and she agrees. However, we have not been able to find what we're looking for. Now, let me make myself clear. I don't want no half ass lookin' POS hangin from my boy's ceiling. I want a metal airplane model, true to specs (within reason) doing its thing in la la land. In other words, I want that s..t to look cool. …

So on the AF.MIL website they have a story celebrating the 50th anniversary of the T-38. For some reason our USAF PA folks decided to use a copyrighted picture from Jo Hunter (below), does that mean that after operating the jet for 50 years we could not find a suitable picture of our own? Time to close Combat Camera in the name of efficiency.

  19. He gets kicked of an American Airlines flight and turns it into a rant about the flight crew... https://simply-showbiz.com/blog/archives/14322 Apparently Mr Prima Donna was asked to turn off his phone and he did not comply...according to Baldwin's camp he simply took a little too long to turn off the phone and was subsequently kicked off the plane which led to him tweeting the following: "Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving." "Last flight w American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950's find jobs as flight attendants." The real story is a bit more revealing..."…

I don't think there is a thread like this...I searched but to no avail. I thought it would be cool to post good flying stories we come across here (or post your own). Anyway here is one from AF Times https://www.airforcet...vietnam-122611/ Best line ever: “We took off in jeans and cowboy boots without much else on us,” he said.
