Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I'm always snapping photos when I'm on the road, and have come to the realization that my digital camera sucks arse. Anyone here have any recommendations for a quality digital camera for under $300. I'm a big fan of the compact point and shoot camera (fits nicely in the flight suit), however the pictures don't seem to come out as good. Feel free to post a picture you've taken with your camera. I did a search and could not find anything, so forgive me if it is on here somewhere. Could some of you seasoned dudes give me some advice on dining outs? I have the rules and will be the POM. We have been told it is a combination of a dinning in/ dinning out so slight buffoonery but nothing too major. Any feedback is appreciated I just want to make it fun for my classmates. Cheers Spoon

Fellow military members: just writing to warn everyone not to use a power company in Texas called YEP Energy. Their rates are low but their customer service is horrific and they are not military-friendly. When I called to cancel my service during my PCS from Texas months ago, they made no mention of the $175 cancellation fee they planned to charge me. When I received my final bill and saw the charge, I sent them a copy of my orders and asked that they reconsider. I received an amended bill, paid it, and thought that was the end of the matter...until a collection agency called me last week! I paid the bill again, fearing my online payment hadn't gone through. …

On www.airforce.com there's a series of recruitment video's entitled "Do Something Amazing." Turn up the volume on your speakers and click this link: Eagle pilot curses out boom operator. It's a video clip of an F-15C getting some gas and if you listen closely you'll hear the pilot on hot mic saying "How about you make contact DIPSH*T!!!" Another funny link is this one: Propeller engines?. Apparently the TF-34's on the Warthog sound just like the P-51. Maybe the Air Force should "do something amazing" and have someone QC their website. Enjoy, HOSS

  15. This is a shameless plug for a team I am a part of called US Military Endurance sports. I fly with a lot of guys who I later find out are sports enthusiasts and have never heard of our group. One of the immediate benefits of being part of the team are the discounts such as: -52.5% off Rudy Project -50% off Honey Stinger -40% of Schwalbe tubes and tires -50% off Orange Seal (better than Stans) -50% off Black Diamond (winter is coming!) -20% off Scott bikes Im just highlighting the title sponsors but we have over 30 that offer amazing deals to members. Also there are focus events around the country the team pays for such as the H…

I tried to find the reg but couldn't. I guess if that's the case, they could just use the MRE excuse from now on. I guess a 13 hr day of flying doesn't have the same perks it used to.

I have a bunch of issued uniform items that I either never used, were the wrong size, etc. Along with about 2 pairs of brand new boots I bought years ago that just don't fit right. I could try to sell them but I dont have the boxes still. Not looking to make a profit, just wanting to get them out of my possession. Obviously dumping them off at my local goodwill is not an option. Are there places it is OK to donate these to, on base?
