Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Currently I am waiting to go to OTS and just a little confused about how a CCW works in the military as well as for my civilian spouse. Do I keep my current state of residency and not have to register for a new one moving to different states? Or do I have to register it at every state that I move to? Also how it works having one on base. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

I'll be vague for now til a more proper donation page comes out, but a 30 year old USAF fighter pilot is in need of A LOT of prayers right now. One of the healthiest bros in the squadron went for a run Wednesday night by himself and eventually collapsed from an apparent heart attack. He was deprived of oxygen for a while prior to being found and rushed to the hospital. He's not in good shape right now, breathing with the help of a machine, but is fighting hard to come back from this event. He's got a ton of squadron family around him and family praying and sending good vibes, but the more prayers the better. It's an hour by hour update kind of thing right now to see …

A colleague who is F22 pilot for the Virginia ANG had honor of flying a Phantom at Eglin. He flew the aircraft we had at the reunion. Here is the F-22 pilot’s thoughts on flying the F-4: I flew your jet a couple days ago (see attached). I had a little trouble getting the engines started, so I climbed out and shoveled some more coal in the back; after that she fired right up. Ground ops were uneventful, although I couldn’t figure out why the cockpit smelled like body odor, Jack Daniels and cigars…and that was BEFORE I got in it! By the way, what’s with the no slip crap on top of the intakes, it’s like you have permanent icing conditions due to that spray on rhino t…

The investment showdown thread seems to be more focused on types of investments and strategies. I thought a thread to discuss specific stocks and rationale might be interesting to some. Stocks I have been watching as of late: 1. Western Digital (WDC), mainly because they bought Sandisk (I bought Sandisk years ago in the low single digits and held it through four splits and the acquisition), I ended up with a large number of shares from the acquisition so I continue to follow. 2. Cisco (CSCO), This is an interesting beast because it appears their software/cloud sector is poised to surpass their hardware division. Interested in the thoughts of others…

Just saw this on Facebook. Wondering if anyone on the board was running today and how high the temps got? I’ve run it twice and the weather can get hot with not very much shade.

A C-47 named "Bluebonnet Belle" (N47HL) of the Highland Lakes CAF Squadron crashed in Burnet, Texas yesterday. Luckily, all thirteen passengers on board survived, but injuries have been reported. Any of you work for BGI post retirement or while in the ANG/AFRC? I'm trying to get hired to a sim gig, the announcement is up for the job on their website (for the last couple of years) and I just cannot make any headway into getting the job. The bro-network is strongly on my side but it just hasn't happened. I've given some thought to Booze-Hamilton and was wondering what the peanut gallery thought. I have an income cap due to disability retirement (long story, soon) and full time would be tough. And yes, I meet all quals.

Hey, guys and gals. First, a disclaimer: I'm not (yet) in the military and just a long shot old guy trying to get a Reserves/Guard UPT slot, so I am not posting this from the inside. That said, I am a big fan of the financial world/retirement options and, in my travels researching squadrons and poking around their pages for info today, I randomly stumbled across this article that could be important to some folks. It basically says, if you're one of the fortunate ones that can max out your TSP at $18,500 and you're in the BRS with a match program, you want to make sure you're spreading the $18,500 in contributions out over the ENTIRE year and not maxing out early. Ac…
