  2. You’re right. The Afghanistan withdrawal was beautifully executed. Couldn’t have gone any smoother.

  4. Biden 100% had a say in the execution of the withdrawal. As the President of our nation, he bears ultimate responsibility for the endeavor. More importantly, he personally set the date for Kabul mandatory departure time against recommendations of senior GOs. The "31 Aug" arbitrary target was a huge driver to chaos at HKIA, and was a direct order from Biden. Even after the military demonstrated the order would make ensuring all AMCITs escaped impossible, Biden was steadfast. DOS also bears responsibility and they encouraged this decision.

  5. I don't agree with the premise that the US is somehow forcing the Ukrainians to fight for us. I'd point to Afghanistan as an example of the fact that we can't force anyone to fight for their own land if they don't fundamentally want to as a society. I'd also argue that stopping the Russian advance greatly benefits everyone who doesn't want to be tortured in a basement.. By all accounts, life under Russian occupation really sucks, that's why they are fighting against them. If we stop sending a few percentage points of our defense budget, putin gets rewarded, aggression is normalized (risk of China becoming more encouraged to act on their dozens of border disputes) and many more Ukrainians die. They will fight to the last inch of Ukraine whether we help them or not, I'd rather see Russia lose.

  9. Biden ordered us out by the end of August, last C17 left 30 Aug. There was much confusion on the ground about “end of Aug” vs 11 Sep (which was original target) and those extra days would have allowed us to evacuate more US citizens. After Abbey Gate we received a clear order, relayed to us that it was directly from POTUS, that everyone would be out by the end of Aug.

  11. I don't think we have any guns to Ukrainian heads to resist...I think it's more like "Ukraine will fight to the last Ukrainian, and the west will gladly support."

  12. Theoretically…what is a first sergeant gonna do if all the pilots/booms in the squadron choose to ignore their complaint and wear morale shirts anyway?

  14. I truly appreciate you responding. I would in turn submit that your side are often the ones arguing in bad faith. Those of us who want peace in Ukraine, and question the wisdom of massive, open-ended support for an indefinite proxy war which has claimed tens of thousands of lives for little to no benefit of anyone, are (in the aggregate) not disinformation purveyors, Putin shills, etc. My opinions are my own, whether any of them happens to coincide with one held by Russians, Ukrainians, or those of other nationality. I've never been a Trump fanboy, but I think he gets it here: And I certainly don't hold Putin in high esteem, but when he says "The West will fight us to the last Ukrainian" (I can't find the exact quote right now), is he wrong? https://www.cato.org/commentary/washington-will-fight-russia-last-ukrainian

  15. Oh ok, so it's not some recent memo. That came out when I was still in the SQ/CC seat, I remember reading that e-mail with the updates, then deleting it. Nothing good would have come from nixing squadron colored morale shirts, so we never stopped wearing them. Helps when you have an OG/CC and a WG/CC with a spine.

  16. FIFY. And it tracks since you ignore pretty much all other fact in favor of your bloviated opinions, but they’re definitely important since you’re clearly the only one of authority who could possibly be correct.

  18. In general I downvote bad faith arguments and people who exclusively post content that echoes Russian talking points. I don't bother engaging with gearpig or bashichuni, but I don't know you so I'll assume you're a reasonable person. I don't really have a lot free time to go in circles arguing on the internet. I appreciate the user's who take the time to counter the disinformation though and post things a little more grounded in reality. The last thing I downvoted for example: if you look at the authors other work it seems he only writes stories about how Ukraine has no chance and how the US shouldn't help Taiwan in a conflict. It seems that author would prefer the US lets Russia and China bully their neighbors while we sit at home on our hands. He's been posting with shaky logic and half truths since the start of the war about how Ukraine is doomed and we should just make concessions to Russia. It's very obvious that guy is pushing an agenda and is not an unbiased reliable source. To answer your question: I argue for a rules based international order, and supporting our allies.

  19. I always hear that about top level players but it wasn’t nearly as widespread as people think. Some definitely got some shady money under the table, but the vast majority of players didn’t get anything beyond scholarship and stipend. Now with NIL, there are high school kids signing multi-million dollar deals just to sign at certain schools. It’s truly nuts. That coupled with the transfer rules changing completely changes the landscape. The dirty secret about the transfer portal is something like 50% of kids that enter it don’t find a home on the other side and their career is over. Wild stuff.

  22. One of my sons ships off to the Navy in Aug. He’s trying out for SWCC. He hasn’t even left yet and the Navy already has his ass up every morning doing pretty intense physical training. He’s pretty stoked. I tried to talk him into being a pilot but he wants to shoot fully automatic guns, drive boats and hop out of aircraft. You can’t do that in the civilian world. My other two sons have expressed zero interest in the military (I’ve taken all of them flying, and none want to be a pilot, lol). I think volunteering for military service has to do with your personality. Not everyone wants to the excitement (or extreme boredom) that comes with the military life. Most news articles want doom and gloom. I trust my son and the kind of dudes he hangs out with to take care of us if shit goes down. The young guys aren’t all selfish dumbasses.
