  3. It is an interesting juxtaposition between power and morality. Throughout history a great many men of power have drifted from the defined morale standard. We focus on Kennedy, Clinton and MLK and forget the ones we hold as heroes. Eisenhower had a long affair with Kay Summersby and no one says a word. Robin Olds, a hero on this forum was having an affair with his secretary while a sitting Wing/CC in Vietnam. You are correct, popularity seems to outweigh transgressions.

  4. 1 Aug 1955... 70 years ago today... A team of folks was on a secret lakebed with a new, unflown airplane. The pilot, Tony Levier, was going to do the first round of taxi tests. After a 2+ mile taxi run with speeds up to 55 mph, Tony turned around and headed back south for another run. Accelerating to 80 mph in about 1/4 mile, he pulled the power to idle... only to realize he was airborne! Because of the featureless lakebed, he wasn't sure of his height, and came down hard from about 35 feet, left wing low, then bounced back again. Finally getting back in control, he got the plane stopped, with the main wheels on fire. And that, ladies and gentlemen, marked the first flight for the U-2... on Groom Lake, later named Area 51. By 18 October, they were flying the aircraft in excess of 70,000 feet. Ironically, 22 years later to the day... 1 Aug 1977... Francis Gary Powers died in a helicopter mishap. Hail Dragons.

  9. Did you just use chatgpt to find you a source to support your argument without checking that source? I was curious about your argument and got 4 sentences in before realizing it's a completely irrelevant data set. 352 children (276 girls and 76 boys) from a single regional hospital is hardly what any self respecting researcher would call "representative" enough to support any claim outside of the walls of that regional hospital. You want to make a claim for or against an entire group of people, at least cite a national source. I'm not taking sides in this debrief, but that was just outright lazy tactics.

  15. 🫡🫡🫡 to our USCG brothers!! ‘A Nightmare’: The Coast Guard’s Harrowing Flight to Camp Mystic I participated in a SAREX to certify crews in Texas in April, and was hoisted into a MH-65E Dolphin off a small island on Lake Houston just north of the McKay Bridge. Little did we know at the time that the Guadalupe floods in Ingram and Hunt three months would put these same crews to the test, and they (and others) rose to the challenge! God bless each and every one of them!

  16. Slippery slope...DC went from Red Light cameras to speed cameras...all in the name of safety right...wrong. The "rules" say a sworn police officer has to review each picture and swear an affidavit that states the violation is legit and all parameters are met (radar was certified, car in the picture is in the frame, no other cars....etc). During my last hostage tour int he five sided building my wife and I were going up to Dewey Beach for a long weekend with the family. We were in two separate cars because I was coming back a day early to go to work. A couple weeks later a photo speed ticket shows up in the mail with my name and my wife's car in the picture. I knew exactly where it happened and I was behind her....we were not speeding. I took a closer look and there was another car in the frame with her in the other lane and it was passing her, but she got the ticket. I took it to court and won in .69 seconds. The court story is actually funny, I spent an entire day building a slide presentation with my radar theory book form Weapons School. I calculated the beam with and was ready to conduct a master class in court. Day of court arrives and there are two case in front of me. Judge calls the first guy and he is there with his wife. Judge says "Mr Smith you got two tickets in 20 minutes, how do you plead?" He replies "innocent your honor." Judge brings the picture up on the big screen and says "what is your defense?" The dude launches into a story about going to help his handicapped grandchildren. At first the judge rolls her eyes then she notices something on the ticket, "Mr so and so there appears to be a problem with the affidavit and jurisdiction on these tickets." The dude keeps blathering on but his wife is standing there with him, she figures it out and elbows him in the side to shut up. A few seconds later judge says "Yup these are invalid, both tickets are dismissed" The judge calls the next case and it is this much older woman. Judge says "Mrs smith and so how do you plead?" She replies "innocent your honor." Judge brings the picture up on the big screen and says "what is your defense?" The lady then replies "well your honor, I didn't have my references." Everyone is puzzled....Judge says "Ma'am....your references?" She replies "Yes ma'am, they are doing construction and I didn't have my references to know where the speed camera was" Everyone laughs, .69 seconds later..."Guilty, $100 fine." Now I am up Judge says "Mr bag of donuts how do you plead?" I reply "innocent your honor." Judge brings the picture up on the big screen and says "what is your defense?" I said "clearly looking a the picture your honor you can see there are two cars in the radar beam." I take a breath and start to pull out my slide presentation when the judge says "You are right, case dismissed." But but your honor, I have a presentation, I want to be more right! At the end of the day I won the case because I was right, but the lesson here is 3 of the 4 tickets were incorrect and they are putting the onus on the citizen to prove their innocence. Cameras are a powerful tool but it opens the aperture to so many other questionable things.

  20. Earlier in this thread, I laid out my well-informed hunch that the pilot in charge was not focused on her duties, enamored with the D.C. lifestyle, and eager to head to medical school. Some folks here got butt hurt. Well if it looks like a distracted duck flying through congested airspace... its probably a distracted duck ---- The helicopter was twice warned by an air traffic controller about the approaching passenger jet, once about two minutes before the collision and again about 90 seconds later, the presentation shows. Both times, the helicopter said it could see the other plane and requested a “visual separation,” in which they would be allowed to navigate around the jet. A controller approved that. About 20 seconds before the crash, air traffic control instructed the helicopter to "pass behind" the jet — but that command wasn't heard in the Black Hawk because of a brief audio interruption from their microphone, the cockpit transcript states. Five seconds after the second warning to watch out for the incoming plane, Eaves, the helicopter instructor, told Lobach, “Alright, kinda come left for me ma’am, I think that’s why he’s asking,” to which she replied, “Sure." Eaves then said, “We’re kinda out towards the middle,” and Lobach said, “Oh-kay fine," drawing out the okay, according to the transcript. https://people.com/final-seconds-before-american-airlines-dc-crash-revealed-by-ntsb-11781679

  21. Yeah, but humans don't work that way, and this line of reasoning got a bunch of innocent people killed, so new procedures are needed in my opinion. Being off altitude, misidentifying visual traffic at night in an ocean of lights, or drifting off flight path are well within the reasonable bounds of human error. Procedures at congested airports should not allow for basic human error to result in a crash. That's the whole point of having these procedures.

  22. I know I'm late in the game on this thread and I found it while doing some research on The Doc after watching some YouTube videos on GO shennanigans. I was stationed at Ramstein from 2001 to 2007 so I lived through the dark times of The Doc's tenure as USAFE/CC. There is so much great information in this thread that I could use the material to write a book on the matter. What I remember most about those days was Airmen working on Combat Proud patrol where they would have to respond to hotline calls. The calls mostly came from Doc himself to inform the poor kids that a wayward Taco Bell cup was last seen on the road to CTS outside the West Gate of RAB and required immediate investigation and disposal. I retired in 2015 after 20 years of service and never in those 20 years have I known of anybody, officer or enlisted, that was more universally loathed than The Doc. I know leadership isn't a popularity contest, however, I think if NOBODY likes you, it should be a good indicator that you are not one of the good ones.

  27. Not sure this complete thread derailment serves any purpose other than to allow you to heroically defend faggotry and also call the sitting Pres a pedo with no actual proof. I hope you can find resolution with your struggles. As for my previous statement about burglars, the academic studies that showed the correlation, never said all smugglers were pedos, just that they are more likely to choose that evil path.
