  1. If someone has the time to give some advice, it will be greatly appreciated. Currently a civilian with no military experience. I started a business at 22 years old and used it as a means to an end for getting my bachelors in mechanical engineering from Auburn. Worked my way through school doing manual labor with my business and my grades aren't the best, but I graduated debt free. No stranger to hard work and perseverance, so this UPT seems the right fit. Currently trying to get my application in for AD and one guard unit before the new year. I take the TBAS Friday and took the AFOQT last month. From what I know I just need a flight physical and all my i's dotted and t's …

Hello all! Longtime lurker looking for some initial feedback on my scores and experience. Now that I finally got my PCSM score back, I'll be shot-gunning my application as soon as possible. What are my chances of getting hired on with a fighter unit? I'm not picky about location or platform as long as I get into a fast mover. -PCSM: 99 -AFOQT: 99/75/77/81/66 -Education: Northern Arizona University B.S. in Computer Science -GPA: 3.22 -Total flight hours: 321 -Ratings: Commercial Pilot SEL, Instrument, Complex and High Performance -LORs: Former F-15C pilot and T-38 instructor, Check Airman at Southwest Airlines, and my flight i…

Baseops community and fellow UPT hopefuls, I was lucky enough to get selected during my first interview and never got around to using the BogiDope Interview Prep Package that I had purchased. Their App review helped me immensely during the process and I'm sure their interview prep is of the same game changing quality. That being said I leaned on this forum a lot over the past year and would like to give back to a fellow applicant. So, the rules are simple, post below that you would like to be entered to win and on Friday night the 22nd of November I'll pull a name from a hat to choose the winner. Here is further information on the package, https://bogido…

Hello all, Disclaimer: It is still too early for me to be making applications to any units at this time. But, I am trying to improve myself and my resume early. Goal: My goal is to get a slot in a Guard/Reserve unit that flies fighters (F-15 and -16 primarily) or C-130s (MAFFS unit or AFSOC). About Me: Summed Up: Current GPA - 3.7, towards a B.S. in Aeronautical Science/Minor in Organizational Leadership, but will be switching majors next fall (Explanation below) Age: 21 AFSC: 2A6X4 (Taking this coming spring semester off from school to go to Basic/Tech), MT ANG, E-3. Flight hours: ~50, student p…

  6. I was hesitant about posting here because due to my particular background and currently still being AD, it won't be too hard for people in my community to figure out who I am. That was dumb. I'm here to try and climb back in the cockpit, so people figuring out who I am doesn't matter one bit. I'm currently working on setting up applications for ANG Fighter Wings / Squadrons, but am not at all opposed to the Reserves or AD AF. I've tasted fighter life and having it snatched away for not being deemed qualified to land on a boat was a devastatingly humbling experience. It truly reoriented my world, however, through this adversity I've become laser focused and more determin…

I’m highly interested in flying for the ANG; I do not care what I fly or where, I would just be grateful for a slot. I’m currently 24 and have just under 4,000 hours of flight time and work for a regional airline. I also have a high GPA (3.9) With that being said I made the stupid decision to drink and drive when I was 21. I’ve since completed probation, completed various alcohol classes and have abstained from alcohol since. I wear contacts for -2.25 astigmatism, but otherwise have healthy eyes. Is it worth it for me to begin studying and take the AFOQT? Am I better off contacting an ANG recruiter or calling each squadron separately? I appreciate all i…

Hello all, this is my first post on the threads. I'm looking to get a pilot slot. I'd take c-17 or c-130, but I'd love to get into a fighter (f-15/f-16) slot. Here are my credentials: Age: 27 Degree: BS in Mechanical Engineering (3.2 GPA) from URI AFOQT: 99/99/99/98/95 PCSM: 94 Flying time: PPL with 80 hrs Currently an E6 in the RIANG with 10 years in Letters: Strong letter from sqd cdr (O5), strong letter from sxn lead (E8), good letter from sup (E8) I'd say I have good interview skills. I've never had a job interview from which I didn't get an offer. However, I've heard the interviews have more casual questions (tell me a joke, wh…

Hi all, I’ve been waiting to post here with some fresh AFOQT/TBAS scores, but I still haven’t been able to sit for the test, so I figured I should start in the meantime. Once the recruiter heard my age (32), he balked at pilot talk, and went straight into pushing me toward CSO or Intel (neither of which I have interest in). Background: BS/MS Aero Eng. Entire post-college work history is govt. contracting, in Aero Eng. related fields. Oh, and my work site shares the airfield with the Guard unit I am most interested in (what I’m getting at, is they know the group I work for, and that I know what the locality entails). The past couple of years I’ve been workin…

Hello all! I have been lurking these forums for awhile but now that I am done with all the major requirements I am wondering what my chances are. As a background, I am currently AD Enlisted and just submitted my application for a Rated/Non-rated slot with Rated being my preference for the 20OT01 OTS board. I am also thinking of applying to the ANG to keep all of my options open. From what I am aware, there is nothing to stop me from applying to both. If I were able to get a pilot slot, my preference would be ANG. What would be my chances for both of these options? AFOQT: Pilot - 87 / Nav - 80 / AA - 72 / Verbal -78 / Quanitative - 61 PCMS: 71 with 22 hours. 91 w…

Hello gentleman, I'm an Officer in the Army National Guard. 5 years ago out of college I applied to a bunch of ANG units and got selected for UPT with one. Everything went smoothly until I had a color vision issue at MEPS (since resolved) which ultimately railroaded me from moving forward with flying in the ANG. I was pretty beat at that point. I was reading the thread in the Aviation Medicine section how the AF has since changed their color vision policy and scoring chart on the CCT exam. I have taken the CCT in the past and have passed it to the now AF standards (I took it under the old standards but not at an AF physical). Ultimately, how feasible is it to d…

  17. I've read through a ton of older threads on here. Maybe I've read to much that I've jumped the gun and confused myself. So older threads on here I found my 2008 or so, say the way to start the hiring process is by rushing a unit. I'm suppose to call a unit, ask for the pilot's ops desk and schedule a visit. I also fill out a packet and send it to the unit. If they like me they call me to the hiring board. When I call units one of two things happen. Either A they don't know what I am talking about or B. They redirect to a voicemail box that is either full or I leave a message and never hear back. The units that say they don't know what I am talking about nev…

  19. Hey guys, so I’m 28 years old and currently a first officer at a regional airline. I’ve always wanted to join the Air Force/ANG and was recently on a flight where I met a pilot in the ANG. I think I might make the leap but I’m really nervous about the whole process and have a few questions: 1. I graduated college 6 years ago now and haven’t been in any books, what is the AFOQT like and how hard do I need to study? 2. What is the pay like throughout the entire training process? I’m thinking I would take a pay cut to do this. 3. The pilot I met flew the C-5 and he explained it wasn’t deployable which was great however if I chose a different aircraft (fighter…

  21. Okay, this took me a while to get around to posting, mainly because I feel surrounded by some really smart folks on here. Be brutally honest with me and while I am not using this as an excuse, let me give you some back history on how I ended up where I am today. Back in April, I had ZERO clue people could just apply to the Reserves or ANG to fly with no military flying experience until one of my friends got picked up flying C-130s. That’s when I discovered this form, Bogidope, etc. So fast forward to May, I found a few units I wanted to rush and knew I needed to take the AFOQT and TBAS, but since I wanted to apply, I rushed myself (ill prepared) to take the AFOQT and TBAS…

  22. I was referred to this forum by a current active duty AF pilot. I am currently in the end process of the AF Officer application process and currently have a scheduled start date for OTS. There are a couple of things that have come up in the last couple of weeks that have raised some red flags regarding the information I have been given by my recruiter versus what I have been told by several current AF pilots as well as a flight instructor. I am wanting to fly, however my overall GPA from college is just under the 3.00 requirement (2.75). What I was told by the recruiter that I have been dealing with is that if I want to apply for a pilot slot, I would have to get in…

First off, I know there's only so much one can judge based on what I give here without seeing my whole package. I've been denied from the past 5 fighter board interviews after being accepted to the first one I applied to and nearly getting hired (what I was told). I even visited one of the units ahead of the invite dates, but didn't get invited. Put a lot more work into my cover letter and resume after the four rejections in a short period thinking that was my main weakness for that batch, but still didn't hold up for this latest board. Where's my weakness here? I know it takes over a year usually for guys to get to UPT from hire date so I didn't think my graduation date …

Hey y'all, coming up on about 9 months of apps and interviews. Three interviews so far, no takers, one alternate. Just wondering from those in the know, if I should retake the AFOQT. Here's the breakdown. Looking for fighters. P92 / N83 / AA74 / V88 / Q56 PCSM: 93 210 hours, soon to be CFI. Working to improve my overall app and interviewing skills, but I'm on the fence about retaking the AFOQT. Any insight appreciated.
