Jack Broughton 1925-2014 Thud Ridge is one of the best books that I have ever read. In my opinion the chapter Longest Day is one of the most heart wrenching and infuriating things published about the US air campaign and leadership during Operation Rolling Thunder. He would have been awarded a second Air Force Cross but it was denied by Gen John Ryan was denied due the "Turkestan incident." His willingness to go to bat for his subordinates is something that I feel would never happen in today's Air Force.

I have 800K of life insurance through AAFMAA for $35/month and $300K through AFA for about $16/month. I also have $400K of SGLI, which happens to be the most expensive of the three. $1.5 million is a little excessive for us, is there any reason why I shouldn't cancel SGLI? My one concern is that I trust SGLI will be quicker and more reliable in paying than AAFMAA and AFA. AAFMAA and AFA don't have a war or aviation clause, and as near as I can tell they are both legitament companies, however, I don't really know if there is some small print that I didn't read in the coverage that will preclude my family from getting the death benefit. Any input? Thanks

Wondering if there is time on the weekends during UPT to fly my own plane? I would prefer it not sit in storage for a whole year so trying to figure out what to do with it. Also would flying General Aviation at the same time hinder training in any way?

Conservative Group Urges Senators to Vote ‘No’ on Gen. CQ Brown for Joint Chiefs Chairman https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/07/25/conservative-group-urges-senators-to-vote-no-on-gen-cq-brown-for-joint-chiefs-chairman/ From my knowledge of him prior to the last year or so, he (Brown) seemed fairly benign and reasonable but I despise anything woke so I have doubts now What does this forum think? Can someone point me to a good source showing numbers of pilots that were downed in a combat theatre and subsequently rescued/returned to service in the same theatre? Any data or sources would be appreciated.

Just a quick question for any women currently in training at UPT - I'm heading off to Columbus in the near future to start training, and read in the student guide that: Does this mean that only short hair is allowed? I can't see any other way for hair to be "unbound" and still meet requirements. I'd love to know some real-life answers, as if I'm going to be cutting my hair, it might as well be before OTS : ) Thanks!

How is it determined whether or not the good ol' poopy suit is donned for a sortie? Expected duration over water?

https://www.military1.com/army/article/461498-general-mattis-next-mission-destroying-the-ptsd-victim-myth Don't suppose anyone saw this talk live? Paraphrase from the article, but Mattis thinks that the exhalation of victim status is not helping our people. He strongly encourages those who have seen combat to not let anyone label them broken, but to leverage the PTS as an opportunity for post traumatic growth.

Congrats to Stalin. I'd say she's already had a successful run these past few months as the East Coast TACDEMO pilot. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/meet-lt-amanda-stalin-lee-first-woman-blue-angels-jet-demo-pilot

Does anyone know where the regulation is of who can use GUT time? Any pilot (Guard/reserve) can just sign up for this at any base that has a sim right? Is it first come first serve or does each base scheduling office have first dibs. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

Hey gang...new to the forum. Our base is looking for a manufacturer of lighted Follow Me signs that can be installed in the back of standard pick-up trucks. Ours were locally made years ago and are becoming their own FOD hazard. I thought we would find some manufacturers out there with a web search of ground support equipment, but no joy. Appreciate any leads you all may have.

https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/apr/22/pentagon-plans-replace-flight-crews-full-time-robo/ ALIAS envisions a tailorable, drop‐in, removable kit that would enable the addition of high levels of automation into existing aircraft to enable operation with reduced onboard crew.
