I've heard the term used by Marines meaning "Person Other than Grunt." Urban dictionary said it also means "Permanently On the Ground" for AF, Navy and Army aviation. For you flyers, how accurate is that statement?

I'm not too sure here but it seems like there is more to this... I have a couple theories but both are about as stupid as this whole story. https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/viewart/20130103/NEWS02/301030015/Mom-Boy-didn-t-steal-plane-crash JASPER — A teen pilot killed along with two friends in an Alabama plane crash had his own key to the aircraft and had flown it many times, his mother said Wednesday, denying authorities’ assertion that the plane had been taken without permission. Sherrie Smith said her 17-year-old son Jordan Smith was the one flying the plane that went down in the Alabama woods Tuesday night. The Federal Aviation Administration …

https://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/07/16394159-first-thoughts-hagel-a-man-without-a-party?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=1 Thoughts? I think this isn't a bad move for the Sec Def. A lot of people say he is too tough on Israel and not tough enough on Iran but the truth will come out in the confirmation hearings and I would bet he gets confirmed.

I did a search on this. Do current military flight students use the E6B whiz wheel? I'm proficient in both because battery failure happens (sts?) but am wondering whether or not to buy a nice metal wheel, or my own digital. (borrowing from CFI ATM (sts)) -Thanks -

I will be moving to the Peterson AFB area this summer and have questions about living there. 1) I'm giving my car to my younger brother and am shopping for a "new" used one. Do you HIGHLY recommend getting some type of 4WD since it snows there most of the time? Note that I'm a California boy who has never driven in the snow! 2) I'm also looking for apartments in the area. What places do you recommend? I'm willing to commute 20 mins (tops) from home to base. Thanks!

I've been thinking that a large, upcoming problem will be the downsizing of the Military with a weak economy. Expectations are a million folks in the next few years will transfer from Military life to Civilian life. Here's one of the efforts to help with education/housing/jobs, etc. https://www.gotyour6.org/ It's spearheaded by the entertainment industry- not normally our biggest supporters. Good on them though. I do find the comment on helping our service members return to be "assets" rather than "liabilities" offensive.

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Axle is a great dude and this is unfortunate. https://www.airforcetimes.com/prime/2012/07/air-force-c17-pilot-charged-jump -death-071812/ A C-17 pilot is facing a court-martial after the death of a National Guard paratrooper, who was killed during a training jump last year. Capt. Jared S. Foley, of the 7th Airlift Squadron, 62nd Airlift Wing, is charged with three specifications of dereliction of duty in connection with the July 10, 2011, incident, said Maj Michael J. Meridith, a spokesman for 18th Air Force. Foley was the aircraft commander when Army Sgt. Francis Campion jumped over Marshall Field at Fort Ha…

https://www.askthepilot.com/concorde-story/ Interesting read and to see the error chain. And why it's relevant: "LAST WEEK, A FRENCH APPEALS COURT overturned a manslaughter conviction against Continental Airlines for its role in the crash of an Air France Concorde outside Paris twelve years ago.

I'm trying to write a couple LOEs and it's been a while. I've gone on e-publishing and can't seem to find the AF Form 77. Has it been replaced by something else? Is there any other way to write a letter of evaluation?

Looks like they forget to check the refueling method earlier. Now there is a problem. Maybe they'll subcontract the refueling to the USAF.

Hello Gentlemen, I've curious of what you all think about aerobatic flying and how it resonates with a pilot selection board.. A little about me; my goal is to get selected for UPT by an ANG/AFRC fighter squadron in the coming years, I just enlisted in the ANG and i'm waiting on dates. I'm very interested in aerobatic flying, I would love to compete at the advanced and unlimited levels in a powered aircraft, or even a glider (if I could find an instructor in my area) My question is this; should I focus on building up my aerobatic experience or should I focus my aviation resources elsewhere? Is getting glider time even worth a damn to anybody? it looks cool to me but i…

https://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/11/19/marine-corps-forms-squadron-to-fly-new-next-generation-strike-fighter-jet/?test=latestnews The Marines just broke ground on their first F-35 squadron at Yuma with flights planned before the end of the year. After all the ass-pain of the VSTOL variant, I'm curious if there as any real tactical viability (or even need) to operate from "unimproved surfaces at austere bases" and special amphibious landing ships (although I've heard the Marines are going to have to operate some C models because of their fleet commitments to the Navy). After 30 years with the Harrier has this tactical need shown itself enough to go through…
