Dudes, anyone have any experience or advice on applying for hardship separation? I know it starts in vMPF just like any other separation app, but outside of that the afi doesn't really give info on who it gets routed to after your Wg/CC, approval time, who you need to payoff etc... Any insight or advice would be appreciated. I can provide more info on my specific situation if required. Thanks in advance. Duck

All, looking for serious input here. We've all heard the gripes about DTS and how it don't do this or that and is so hard to use. GSA/DoD is looking for input on what users would like to see in the "Next Generation Travel System". RE: https://www.federalnewsradio.com/445/2889993/GSA-to-launch-14B-next-generation-travel-management-system Slated for sometime in 2017, but who knows? So here's your chance and I'll collect these inputs and send them forward. I'm looking for issues with the actual system and not external processes. A few questions to ponder for your input: 1. What is the worst thing you hate about DTS? One I hate is when you update one itiner…

Police are on the search for a group of thugs/anarchists who surrounded and attacked an Air Force pilot in Olympia, Washington. The service member has not been identified but it has been confirmed that he is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The pilot came under attack when he was riding his motorcycle through downtown Olympia on Saturday night. According to the police the protestors surrounded him when they noticed that the pilot had two Confederate flags on the back of his motorcycle. After ripping the flags from the back of his bike they beat him with a bat and smashed a glass bottle over his head. They also attempted to knock his motorcycle to the ground while sp…

I am curious what the sentiment is here on BO about what's going on in this country IRT race and policing. The vast majority of what I see from our Government, the media, celebrities, civil rights leaders and academic leaders can be summed up as misleading at best. I can't think of a bigger issue that has been more divisive and more dangerous to our country than this. Discussions about racial issues have deteriorated so much, that you can't mention certain facts or ask certain questions without being labeled a racist. That is very intentional and is meant to quiet the other side of the argument. Label me as you wish, but I think there are some questions that need…

Came across this and noticed the tail number was a jet I used to be a Crew Chief on back in the mid 80's at EGUN. All I can say it was providence that it happened on the takeoff roll and not airborne which would have been a much worse outcome. https://www.omaha.com/news/military/disaster-averted-at-offutt-but-major-questions-remain/article_41bfc96a-8b03-510b-b0f1-7d7d8633cd26.html

I've been flying for going on 10 years and I love my job. But I am also beginning to look at other adventures I can have in the military before my 20 is up and I spend the rest of years flying for Delta. As it so happens I got a fishing email from the exec regarding the 17th STS ALO position. I wanted to see if anyone had any SA on this job or ALO in general and what the difference may be? I have also heard extreme degrees in job satisfaction for those who went off to be ALOs ranging from "I loved it and want to go back forever" to "Worst years of my life, to hell with the Army!". I've never considered ALO as part of my future but the 17th rings a special bell tha…

Yes, I've used the search function, and I even read all about the rules and regulations and understand the basics. What I want to know is, has anyone here used it while deployed? It seems like a good deal at first glance, but all of the stipulations they add to it sound like a pain in the ass. How easy is it to get signed up? Have you had any hassles or pay issues, either starting or at the end of participation? And it mentions that you can take out sums greater than 10k (if your account has gotten that big) in installments. But can you also elect to withdraw it in a lump sum regardless? I'm trying to decide if I should use this while deployed or invest the…

Hello all, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is 1LT Brogan Steele, and I am a United States Air Force Auxillary mission pilot. Our organization is also known as the Civil Air Patrol, and I'd love to talk to you all about some of the flying opportunities within the Auxillary. I've been very fortunate in my time in the CAP thus far. I am a member of a very aggressive SAR unit (Search And Rescue) that is on-call for operations 24/7/365. I am not too sure I'll release the name of my unit due to OPSEC (Operational Security) concerns, but lets just say we're one of the better-known units around the country. Because of the aggressive nature of our unit, the commitmen…

Hey everybody! My names Roger and im a 17 year old with high hopes, and aspirations to become apart of the elite military aviation community, and eventually become the pilot of a fighter aircraft. Anyways so my question to you guys is: What is the right stuff? I constantly keep hearing this saying, and several other relevant maxims, which refer to the characteristics ,and personality traits one must have in order to succeed in the fighter pilot business. Also,if one does not carry certain characteristics, can he/she acquire them? Thank you!

Serious question. How do you pilots deal with serious problems at home while deployed or on duty (for lack of a better term). Serious problems such as terminally sick relatives or perhaps idiot family members who are always in trouble or perhaps financial trouble or other relatives who are going through hard times? Does it add to the stress? How do you deal with it exactly? I guess I'm one of those guys who likes to be in control and I get frustrated when bad things happen that I have absolutely no control over. I kind of wonder how an Air Force pilot would deal with this.

More bad news for the year. A nickel on the grass for another good dude. No word on base, just "shortly after takeoff" and not combat related. https://www.businessinsider.com/an-american-f-16-pilot-was-killed-in-a-crash-in-the-middle-east-2014-12

Hi there. I own a few small businesses, one of which is growing well enough to expand to a multi-location operation (a big step for us). I'm wondering if there are any other Guardsmen/Reservists here who own their own business who have either a) balanced their service obligation with running their business or b) specifically have gone through UPT while owning their business (and possibly running from afar). The expectation that was made when I was hired into my guard unit was that I will basically need to disappear off the face of the planet for 2-3 years during UPT and we're thinking about maybe hiring a general manager to run the place while I'm gone or selling out…

I saw Hueypilot's post about this in the MC-12 thread, but in the interest of separating the two incidents I'm starting a new thread. Crash: National Air Cargo B744 at Bagram on April 29, 2013, aircraft lost height shortly after takeoff... Godspeed brothers.

Decade forecast from Stratfor, sounds plausible, world somewhat FUBAR somewhat functional. https://www.stratfor.com/forecast/decade-forecast-2015-2025 Here's the Jack Ryan part: It is unlikely that the Russian Federation will survive in its current form. Russia's failure to transform its energy revenue into a self-sustaining economy makes it vulnerable to price fluctuations. It has no defense against these market forces. Given the organization of the federation, with revenue flowing to Moscow before being distributed directly or via regional governments, the flow of resources will also vary dramatically. This will lead to a repeat of the Soviet Union's experi…

https://www.cnn.com/2015/06/30/asia/indonesia-military-plane-crash/ About as bad as it gets. Couldn't help but notice the article says there were 110 passengers and 12 crew on board. Seems high for a 130? Or not?
