Doing a little research. Can you guys give me examples of what your WG/CC has defined as the "local area" for leave purposes? If you could point me to where I can download your wing supp to AFI36-3003 or the written policy letter that would be even mo betta. Thanks all.

Anyone got the skinny on this program? I've got plenty of articles from google that speak of the program's greatness but these all have that Public Affairs flavor (spouting the company line). I was "unofficially" notified that I've been selected. 90% leaning towards 3-day opting out.

  4. Did a forum search for this incident and nothing came up. I'm sure there is more to the story than what this article presented, but talk about luck and timing... 2013 F/A-18 crash: Out of fuel, out of time and one chance to land https://www.stripes.com/news/navy/2013-f-a-18-crash-out-of-fuel-out-of-time-and-one-chance-to-land-1.277698

The Charbroil finally rusted itself useless and with the new Infrared grills out there, anybody have advice on a good grill. Been sticking to gas because of convenience but thinking about trying out wood/charcoal or the infrared.

Good Afternoon, I'm currently at Pensacola in Nav/WSO training. I just finished API (both pilots and navs go through this together), and I have at least 3 weeks off before I start Primary Nav training. I was originally selected for OTS as a pilot but was DQed for PRK pre-op being out of limits so I was redesignated as a Nav. The AF just changed the reg so my PRK pre-op is now well within limits. I've thought on this for nearly a week now and I can't decide whether to pursue getting my original assignment of pilot back or not. I'm THRILLED at the chance to be a WSO. On the other hand, I've always wanted to be a pilot. I'm age-critical (prior-enlisted) so I don't …

I'm enlisted in the Navy right now but applying for the next OTS board in May. I know that it's a long standing tradition in the Navy that when an Ensign (O-1) gets their butter bars, they give a silver dollar to the first enlisted member to render a salute. I've read that they have to "buy" their first salute and every one after is supposed to be earned. Anyway, I'm just wondering for those of you that have gone the OTS route, is this something the Air Force does? If you've seen the movie "Officer and A Gentleman", you'll know what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance. CSpearsFly

without getting into any specifics, for someone here who knows what I'm referring to, please PM with a link or point me in the right direction on where to find this document. Apparently my unit has been using the AFSOC codes for a while and I'm trying to figure out if ACC does the same thing, but I don't have the parent document, just the pages from it about the AFSOC codes. These are used to come up with the Mission Numbers that go on Flight Authorizations... thanks for any help.

I've tried using the search feature, but have came up dry. I understand general physical fitness will be beneficial to having an effective AGSM and maintaining a fitness program (beyond the stellar unit PT program) is required. I didn't know if there was any experience with certain types of exercises that could contribute to handling g-forces more effectively. To me, the un-anointed, the AGSM is a heavy core and lower-body strain, so it would seem that full-body movements would produce the best results (squat, deadlift, standing press, et cetera). I'm a fit dude and have lifted competitively in the past, but am I giving this too much brain power? Should I just k…

Wondering what is the usual throughout MDS in regards to downgrades. Are they common in your MDS or are they debriefed unless they rise to the Q3 level?

I've done a lot of reading on the what goes on after you make it into UPT and what happens from there on. I liked how Baseops had some personal journals for people, it really gives you an idea of how the whole process works. However, I noticed that most of the journals I saw were for people doing heavies . Is there any reason for this trend? Is it just that personal character required to come onto a website and post your personal story is restricted to people who choose heavies? I believe only one of the journals was a T-38 track and it was a B-1 drop. What are the statistics on track selects and drops? If all goes well with Phase I and Phase II, are you likely to get…

I am at an unnamed tanker base for a couple days in the northwest (happens to be co-located with the survival school-but Ill keep it unnamed) and have noticed an absolutely disturbing trend amongst aircrew. Almost every person I have seen, still has their pen flap on their sleeve attached. WTF?????!!!!!! When did this bulls@#$ start happening? And why, oh God why, have we given up the most basic right of any rated donner of the flight suit to cut that worthless piece of forskin off our bag? PEOPLE PLEASE!!! If you have a single flight suit with that worthless piece of fabric dangling off it, for the love of all that is holy and good, and an affront to pencil push…

I retire at the end of this year and was recently hired by DAL. I'm considering joining a reserve unit after retirement because I enjoy the flying and teaching. I've had a few people mention its a terrible idea and I will lose money big time. Anyone here in the program or ran the numbers?

Taking a hint from rumblefish, what are the best spots you've been deployed to? This can be anywhere. A certain base that hosts the 380th AEW is mine. You can go off base to some great spots, the base itself rocked, with a smoothie shop within walking distance of tent city. Base life was pretty cool; not as much of the @sspain of Al Udeid or (I'm told) P-sab. And best of all, schwarma night which happened to coincide with bingo night and KC-10 rotators. Granted, it was alot better before 9-11 and khobar, but it was still great during and after OIF (excluding hornitschek's rein-O-$hit of the refueling sqdn). What is yours, and why? Edited: For possible OPSEC buff…

According to U.S. Central Command; a Friendly-Fire Incident occurred earlier tonight over the Red Sea, with a U.S. Navy F/A-18F “Super Hornet” from the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) being Accidentally Shot-Down by the Ticonderoga-Class Guided-Missile Cruiser, USS Gettysburg (CG-64). Both Pilots were able to Safely Eject over the Water, and have since been Rescued; with one of the Pilots suffering Minor Injuries.

In the spirit of the other Died post, I thought this might be intresting. Everyone who has done their time has at least one good Morale Suppression Police story. Let's hear yours. I'll get the thread rolling: So there I was. I was sitting Alpha with my crew and we jumped into the alert van to go to the chow hall. The AC (female) was wearing a pair of short shorts with the words "Roll Tide" on the back of her britches. So we head back to the van and a Major who had just gotten off the rotator one week earlier crosses the street out of her way to stop us and then berate the AC in front of the rest of us. Basically her reasoning was that her shorts were out of re…

What would be the best foreign language to know as a USAF pilot. I have to decide which one to start soon, and am at ends between Russian and German. German, I believe, would be useful due to the chances of being based in Germany. Russian on the other hand, would be good to know if I was to be selected as an astronaut. Hopefully, the Russians will still be major contributors to the space program in twenty years or so. Any other ideas would be great! Thanks

  24. Delta airlines is the latest in not requiring a 4yr degree. It's preferred but no longer a requirement. The major airlines are pulling away all the stops in finding pilots to fill the vacancies for the foreseeable future.

I'm assuming that there are places around Laughlin to pick up cockpit trainers, but does anyone know for sure? I tried getting onto a website recommended by a guy that just finished pilot training but the site was down. Hell, if anyone has a used one, throw it on eBay and make back some cash!
