I just got a a T-6 PIT flying job - moving this summer. Looking to see if there are any folks there in San Antonio who can give me info on where to live, schools, etc - the normal stuff. Right now, we're looking to rent in the Stone Oak or Canyon Springs area, but looking for opinions. Thanks

We've had the "highest" - HuggyU2 We've had the "fastest" - EvilEagle and JimNTexas tied at 1.7M So who's got the most hours??? I'm thinking with 5000+ hours, HuggyU2 is going to win another one..... https://www.8af.acc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123026838

Just ran across this on YouTube and thought some of you might find it interesting (Warning: it's about an hour long) Oh, he also mentions Lanchester bombers when he means Lancaster bombers, but realize that the Lanchester was a civilian version of the same airplane; seems like an honest mistake.

  4. I’ll make this short. I have a parent who recently got a bad medical diagnosis. I’m a casual LT at a UPT base 17 hours away by car, and 5-6 hours away by plane. I don’t have a ton of leave, but enough where I can make a few trips home. Not nearly enough to make regular trips though. I’m likely to be in casual status for at least 6 months. I want to be closer to help out for treatments and be around in case things turn for the worst. From the research I’ve done, there’s a few types of emergency leave, but they max out quickly and will put me into a negative balance that it’ll take forever to rebound from. I can’t request a humanitarian move due to the fact a gain…

Does anyone else find it a little sac religious (pardon the pun) that SAC is now “Strategic Airlift Command???” When I see articles about SAC in action overseas, I am expecting shit to be nuked. You think they could have come up with a different acronym for an airlift command.

I'm an old(somewhat) Vietnam Era Army officer who has had the privilege of watching my daughter grow into her dream of flying by first getting her PPL in High School, then getting commissioned a 2lt in the USAF with a pilot slot after a great college run, doing IFS, UPT and FTU and loving every minute of it and now finally returning after her first deployment last week from the desert. My hat is tipped to all of you young pilots(and the rest of you like me)who do what you love and make this country safe for the rest of us. Our family is blessed to have been a part of this journey so far, meeting everyone we have along the way and watching in awe as to what you all are doi…

  10. Please read the following article, and any links necessary if you are interested. I find it interesting that CMSAF would answer questions based on an Reddit.com AMA, but I'm glad this might actually be looked at through the appropriate light. https://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/06/02/air-force-reviewing-if-airmen-overlooked-for-medal-of-honor/28371279/ I ran into this type of mindset throughout my time in the military and I was always dumbfounded when leadership would squash a medal nomination for one of my guys. The leadership's misguided logic was that if someone received an achievement medal, then it would look bad if they received another one…

For my airlift brethren: 1.- The PILOT always make THE RULES. 2.- THE RULES are subject to change at any time without prior notification. 3.- No CO-PILOT can possibly know all THE RULES. 4.- If the PILOT suspects the CO-PILOT knows all THE RULES, he must immediately change some or all THE RULES. 5.- The PILOT is never wrong. 6.- If the PILOT is wrong, it is due to a misunderstanding which was a direct result of something the CO-PILOT did or said wrong. 7.- The CO-PILOT must apologize immediately for causing such misunderstanding. 8.- The PILOT may change his mind at any time. 9.- The CO-PILOT must never change his mind without the express wri…

My grandfather enlisted in the Army Air Corps in the late 30s, and then he spent most of the War in the South Pacific as a nav and pilot on 17s and as an IP on 29s in Mississippi (to the best of my knowledge). Well, he died in 2003 and left all his medals and ribbons to me. However, my grandmother (his wife), just passed away last week, finally putting me in possession of said medals and ribbons. My question is: how do I found out what each one is for? He stayed in the service for years and years as a reservist after the War ended, so I can't figure out which decorations belong to which time period. I'm assuming there's a website out there that would have all of these thi…

A few questions regarding the FAC-A qualification Is there a course or qualification in the AF that a non-fighter qualified pilot can attend? Will a pilot have to be tied to a traditional FAC-A airframe (A-10, F-16, etc...)? Is there a way a pilot from another airframe can become qualified to operate as a FAC-A i.e. AC/MC/HC-130, HH-60, CV-22, etc...?

I was recently looking at an article about a unit in MN flying a Homeland Defense Mission in Hawaii (Hawaii Newspaper). The picture clearly showed a F-16 pilot standing in front of what I assume was his aircraft with his name in the caption(actually they put the wrong officers name in the first time but corrected it the next day). Is this an OPSEC violation? If I was a bad guy downrange who had been on the business end of ordanance from one of these jets he (and his family) would be high on MY target list. I wouldn't think it was smart but that's just my opinion.

  21. All, I have been feverishly working on standing up a new (more modern, feature-rich) site to post all of the aviation jobs. Voila! GuardReserveJobs.com was born in April and the doors finally were opened last night. All of the previous (200+) baseops aviation jobs have moved over to this new site. Why the new site? The old site, although functional, was cumbersome and lacked functionality. The new site (guardreservejobs.com) looks like a monster.com and shares many of those features - database driven so you can search by crew position, geo-location, keyword, etc. Users can create accounts, post resumes, etc. Employers (units) have full control over their own J…

Granted they never poke the Chinese and there is no NATO umbrella or an Article 5. Taiwan is equipped to fight alone according to one of their officers who spoke to us back in the AFROTC days. It was a female officer who gave us the go at it alone speech.
