Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  2. On Monday, traffic from China to YouTube began dwindling until it dried up nearly completely today, due to a site-wide block of the popular video sharing site in that country. Google says it has no idea why it's being blocked. China has demonstrated the ability to block access only to certain YouTube URLs as part of its ongoing censorship of the internet, so this site-wide ban represents a significant change in strategy. "We do not know the reason for the blockage," a Google spokesman told Wired.com, "and we're working as quickly as possible to restore access to our users in China." However, he did not specify what those steps might be. It's possible that one of …

I’d like to enlist forum-member’s help in locating any pilot(s) who might have flown the Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker, either in the US or otherwise. I have a very unique opportunity for the right person. If you know an FAA–licensed pilot who speaks English and has recent, verifiable pilot time in the Flanker, please have them contact me at SemperExcelsius27 (at) gmail.com. Although I appreciate the skill needed to fly flight sims, I don’t prefer to hear from anyone whose experience is virtual rather than real. Thanks in advance.

Can't imagine how thsi one could fail.... https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,531940,00.html?mrp Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, is lining up the King of Pop's children for a world tour as The Jackson Three — despite family members accusing him of trying to "exploit them like Jacko." Former Jackson Five manager Joe is said to have approached Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year old Prince Michael II — known as Blanket — to hit the stage next year. But one of Jacko's familymembers is said to be "livid" at the scheme, which will add fuel to the bitter custody battle for the youngsters. Jackson’s biographer Ian Halperin said yesterday: "Joe wants…

During the fall of Saigon, one Vietnamese family in a helicopter, low on fuel, gets rescued by a US Navy ship, the USS Kirk. The Kirk goes on to rescue 20,000-30,000 (estimated) refugees. All of this was forgotten until recently. I can't imagine being so desperate that I would drop my children out of a flying helicopter. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129554870

For all you guitar players, music lovers, technology fiends, history buffs, TDY-ers shacked up in a hotel, or dudes who need a break from the old lady: here's an awesome documentary of Les Paul recounting all his years in the music industry. It was done in 2007, so he was still alive to be interviewed. It's a little over an hour and a half, but it's well worth the time. Paul seems to have been one of those people that had such a drastic and profound influence in so many areas, it's virtually impossible to have a realistic idea of the impact he had across the board. Everyone from Nelly to Ennio Morricone probably owes their career to him. Enjoy Chasing Sound: The Biogr…
