Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  1. After maxing-out Roth IRA's and placing a small mint in TSP, the wife and I are wondering where else could investment money go? Ideas out of ordinary? Heard these: Rental house, raw gold before in case of economic collapse, weekly stock trading, savings deposit program, bullets & assault rifles, lottery tickets We've also gleamed some info from previous threads on the Roth, SDP, and TSP. But haven't seen any good direct comparisons of those common methods or much beyond those common methods. What about a small side-business? Or something else? What is something different you all have heard/seen active duty do as an financial investment outside the norms?

Who has switched from iPhone to Android lately? I’m thinking of making the jump to a Samsung b/c they just seem better. I get it, no iMessage, but who really pays for texts anymore. Specifically the Samsung S9+, maybe the Pixel 2 or 3. The next question will be stock Android apps or the Samsung skinned ones? Apple just seems so limiting, thoughts?

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/government-considering-purchase-of-military-jet-aircraft-1.4289801 So they are thinking, probably not gonna buy methinks but if they do decide to acquire Air Defense and Sovereignty capability and you were the decision maker, what air platform and air defense systems would you choose? As Ireland is not a member of NATO, there is no reason (technical compatibility, treaty or politically) they could not buy from Russia, China, whoever... I'm genuinely astounded; the IRS really does seem to cover every eventuality. Alternatively I'm just disturbed that there must have been someone who considered their taxation practicalities whilst their child was kidnapped to result in this eventuality being covered. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc357.html

I entered AD in 2010, and will be getting out this year. Am I elligible for the Montgomery GI Bill? All the requirements appear to say that I must have "had my pay reduced" by some amount for a year. Anyone have any gouge on this benefit and if it's worth it? For SA, I applied to Grad school in San Francisco to a 3 year program, and I plan on using my Post 9/11 benefits for that. But I also don't want to miss out on the Montgomery if it makes sense.

  9. I made a program a while back to help my wife and I pick names for our kids. I decided I wanted to see just how good the newest AI models were at coding (spoiler alert, incredibly good) and reconstruct the program with all the bells and whistles and a unified login system. I'm probably about a day or so away from beta testing, so if anyone would like to use the program, just send me a PM and I'll get you and your spouse set up with accounts. The Baby Namer 9000 allows two parents to independently rate names from the social security database then compare their ratings to instantly see what names were favored by both. You can also see statistics goi…

I didn't bother searching the forum before making this thread because I'm pretty positive it hasn't been discussed on here before. Here is a hypothetical for the forum. Lets say you were bored and happened to be browsing an adult website or two in your spare time and came across(sts) a picture that was of a friend of yours. And in this picture your friend is wearing her cheerleading outfit from college and the picture is clearly lifted from an Athletic Association archive or something similar. Sadly said picture does not link to any actual videos or images of the person in question but that is no surprise because, in theory, knowing this girl you would know that such…

Before I start with pics, I thank all of you for their extraordinary support and prayers. It felt like this was a never ending journey, sometimes struggle, sometimes even mental torture, but it is all over now. We can all celebrate now.... I am tired, exhausted but I am a US citizen now. The banner is proper... Now, first a bit history of the whole ordeal... I applied for citizenship in September 2005. I was stationed in Korea, and my application was based on my military qualifications. It was supposed to be a very straight forward process, however it turned out to be the quite opposite. After I had my interview and civics test in June 2006 in the US, I waited a…

As a former C-130 driver, SEFE and line puke, I had more than my share of fun in the course of 27 years on countless rotations, Panama, Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia, Desert Shield & Storm and Red Flag, etc. in the A's, B's and E's. But in August of 1993 it all came to an end when I retired. Now all there was to do was flying widebodies (flight attendants) between major population centers around the world. I thought I would replace at least some of that former excitement and so I became active in the local aerobatic club and, after a few years, began teaching basic aerobatics and emergency recovery training mostly to pilots who have never been on their back in a…

https://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=457410 Jack White upset with Air Force Reserve over Super Bowl ad Feb. 8, 2010, 9:38 PM EST WENN -- White Stripes star Jack White has taken exception to a TV ad which aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday -- because he feels it ripped off his "Fell In Love With A Girl" hit. The rocker and executives at his Third Man Records have complained about the U.S. Air Force Reserve's apparent "re-recording" of the tune. In an online post, White and the record label bosses write, "We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management. Thinking about buying a used one...the current battlewagon (a 96 VW Passat) is showing its age and nickel-and-diming me to death lately. Have always wanted a Jeep and there is a two-year old Unlimited for sale here in town that may not be a bad deal. Any current/previous Jeep Wrangler owners out there who have any advice, good or bad? It has a hard top with a bikini top thrown in, a manual transmission, and the 4.0L in-line six with 35K on it, ABS, A/C and a CD player. I prefer the extended rear bed and wheelbase of the Unlimited. Cheers! M2
