Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Can anyone read/translate French? If so, I'd be grateful for a transcript of the linked story: French news story re WWII fighter I helped a French maritime archeologist [sic] ID the wreck of a US fighter, actually a borrowed British plane called the Beaufighter. This particular squadron, the 417th NFS ( much later commanded by Chuck Yeager and eventually becoming one of the F-117 squadrons) had a bad string of crashes while based near Marseille, France.* In the general area where this wreck was found, there were two possible suspects. One where the crew ditched and got out, one where the crew didn't. I helped (think checking records, not diving on the sit…

So on the AF.MIL website they have a story celebrating the 50th anniversary of the T-38. For some reason our USAF PA folks decided to use a copyrighted picture from Jo Hunter (below), does that mean that after operating the jet for 50 years we could not find a suitable picture of our own? Time to close Combat Camera in the name of efficiency.

The F-35 thread is the only one I can open without getting a database error. I've tried several threads here and in the other forums with no luck. Also tried logging out and logging back in, again with no luck. Except this thread. Are others having problems? I just tried to post a reply in the F-35 thread with no luck, so trying to create a new thread and see what happens.

In the May/June issue of Airman magazine (pg 13), Capt Malinda Hammond, a Reservist with the 136 AW currently assigned to the 455 AEW, is pictured in a sanitized flightsuit with only a US flag and small 'FUBAR' morale patch on! (this is the scanned pic from the magazine) Now the question is, did she know she had it on or was she the victim of some shenanigans? By the way, in the online version of that pic, the morale patch was Photoshopped out! Also, it really shows the professionalism of the USAF/PA in that the "current" issue of Airman on their official web site is from March/April, and it is mid-July! And before anyone screams about my publishi…

There are no words... https://www.airforcet...dancer_092009w/ Staff report Posted : Monday Sep 21, 2009 12:10:27 EDTBy day, Capt. John Scheuren is a research analyst and liaison officer at the Air Force Joint Test Program Office. By night, he's one of the top amateur cabaret dancers in the world. And he's about to turn pro. Scheuren and his partner, Georgia Ambarian, won the U.S. pro/am cabaret competition Sept. 12 in Orlando, Fla. Later that night, the competition's judges encouraged him to take his hobby to the next level. "Itwas cool, it was like at one 1 o' clock in the morning at the bar, myAir Force buddies were there, and the most powerful peop…

The biz jet community and the car makers especially are getting beat up pretty good about their use of corporate jets. Maybe if you are getting Gov't money, you shouldn't be using too many jets. However, Congress needs to take a close look at themselves. More than one person in the civilian chain has no problem requesting VIP acft to transport themselves around.

To make a long story short, my childhood dream was to be a fighter pilot like the rest of the wannabees here. I'm currently a mechanical engineering student hoping to transfer to a school offering aerospace engineering, and earlier this year I was discharged from Navy boot camp (reserve air crew contract) for requesting a religious accommodation for the Covid shot. I have nothing against the people who got the shot, but this post is mainly for those who didn't get it or regret having done so. What do you recommend young conservative Christian men do now that military aviation is basically off the table for them? I've looked into civilian test piloting and other …

I live in north Texas near Sheppard AFB, and have had pretty terrible coverage with T-Mobile ever since I graduated and left the family Verizon plan. I'm inclined to go back to Verizon, but I was a little put off by how pricey their mid-level data plans are. ($70/mo for 8GB plus a $20/mo "because we can" fee? Jesus.) My fiancée suggested Sprint because she heard they have a military discount, but discounts don't mean much if I'm dropping calls on a regular basis like I am now. I'd like to have coverage I can count on for my next few assignments, starting with Columbus this spring. Who have you had good and bad experiences with over the last few years, in terms of cover…

Odd request... When you go into a classified briefing room, there's usually a storage bin into which many people put their cell phones before they enter the room. Most of the ones I've seen are poorly designed. If you have a picture of a wall-mounted unit that is exceptionally well designed, would you send me a link to where you got it, or at least a photo of it with the dimensions of the storage slots.

Anyone got a good place to buy cheap custom stickers? I am going through T-6 PIT and want to buy like 100 or so stickers with the ADI attitude fail image on them. I know someone made it a class patch back in '04 but I want to just make a small say 3" by 3" sticker with the image so i can hand it out to studs when I think their attitude sucks. thanks bb

Yeah, so apparently this happened CHINA'S ROVER HAS REPORTEDLY LANDED ON THE MOON VIDEO STORY

  23. On Monday, traffic from China to YouTube began dwindling until it dried up nearly completely today, due to a site-wide block of the popular video sharing site in that country. Google says it has no idea why it's being blocked. China has demonstrated the ability to block access only to certain YouTube URLs as part of its ongoing censorship of the internet, so this site-wide ban represents a significant change in strategy. "We do not know the reason for the blockage," a Google spokesman told Wired.com, "and we're working as quickly as possible to restore access to our users in China." However, he did not specify what those steps might be. It's possible that one of …
