Stop the madness!!!

Suggestion: only serving commanders, SQ/CC and above, should have assigned parking spots.

Our base has two wings - the CC of the tenant wing is an O-6, host wing is an O-7. The commissary has a number of O-6 spots as well as one O-7 spot and a spot for each wing CC. The host wing CC is the only O-7 on base...so he effectively has two parking spots. I asked a manager why this was and she just shrugged it off, which I suppose I should have expected.

Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

This!

Especially at a base like Eglin where the GS and Contract civilians have an inordinate amount of reserved parking spots.

Same shit, different medium... Why can I have enough gigs in my Yahoo account to hold emails from college, but my AF Outlook locks up after sending one attachment?

And does anyone else have issues with the quote buttons on this forum?

You can try this technique if the queep is piling up excessively.

1) Send yourself a GINORMOUS ppt file. Wait until you get a "mailbox is full" warning, you may have to send it a few times. Good work, now your email is inop and if someone really needs something they will either find you in person or call you.

2) Go fly / do something tactically relevant.

*3) IF you want to get your email back delete the messages and empty your trash. Don't forget the sent items.

^ Ahh, brilliant! I am totally doing this tomorrow...thanks for the tip! (phrasing)

But where will those other one-stars park when they visit the base?

Parking at Scott is already a clown show...and made even worse when about two lanes worth of spots in front of the BX are all for DV's. Transcom and AMC's parking lots are even worse. The funniest thing I have heard is they can't make a parking garage because there is no place to park if they close down the lot to build the garage. It's a vicious cycle...

Hypothetically, let's say I rename the recall roster from April999MDGrecall.docx to something like horseradish.bmp, then email that to a personal email, then rename the file back to the correct file type on my home computer. What's the chances of being busted or exposing PII?

It works like a champ and the attachment doesn't get scrubbed off. Use it all the time to send .xlsm type files and what not.

Just park in whichever of those spots you feel like and is convenient.

I just didn't use email. As a part-timer, every time I showed up, I required a new password or they needed to re-map printers or something and it became a royal pain and waste of my time...so I quit checking and happily flew my ass off.. After about a year and half, some guy shows up at my door asking if I could please delete some stuff because it is clogging up their server. I had something in the neighborhood of 1500 emails.

Well played Tree! Being a part timer truly is the best gig there is!

And the LPA!

I've been to several fighter bases that have LPA parking at the OClub.......then again, could have been a trap.

KCHS has (had) Key Spouses parking spots at the commissary.

KCHS has (had) Key Spouses parking spots at the commissary.

Ft Carson has spots for Housing mayors and family members of POWs.... And they are closer to it than the "expectant mother" spots which is just funny.

I might be able to understand parking spots at a busy work place....but spots at the commissary or BX where the person MIGHT go once a week is beyond ridiculous. Is anyone really that fucking lazy to walk the extra 50m from a parking spot in the back? I mean, didn't those guys make their rank based off their excellent PT scores anyway? It is about as funny as those front row parking spots at the gym people will sit and wait for instead of just walking the extra distance. YOU'RE GOING TO THE FUCKING GYM!!

https://www.spi.dod.mil/ewizard_down.htm - DoD produced Java encryption tool - approved for download on DoD or personal computers. Run it, encrypt the roster with a password, then email the encrypted file to your email and decrypt it on your laptop. Longer process but decent workaround.

There is a better work around... if anyone cares.

Being on an Army network I have issues with sending Encrypted emails all the time since they use a different GAL. Solution, if the individual sends you a digitally signed email you can select the certificate, click on "details" and then "Trust the Certificate". You will then be able to send encrypted to that individual.

The enlisted promotion system is incredibly screwed up. Because it's all career field specific it's possible that some doofus with a 28 on the asvab can make chief just because he's a cop but wouldn't even be allowed into tech school in a bunch of other afscs.

There are horrible people that study their asses off and score 90s on both tests and get promoted. It really is a horrible system. Since everyone gets 5s on their EPR and everyone has relatively the same amount medals, the only way to get promoted is to do awesome on the tests, rack up TIG points, or by being a big enough kiss ass to get step promoted. The most fucked up part about step promotions, they usually go to someone that has been stuck at TSgt forever and doesn't do well at testing. They very rarely give it to people based solely on merit.

PII fix question...if I print it as a PDF and password protect it, can it be read by the cyber dorks?

1) Print your document

2) Staple a PII coversheet over it

3) Place the document with coversheet in scanner

4) Email the scanned coversheet.

You should be good.

Works every time. Also remember to scan in the highest resolution possible and e-mail it to the greatest number of people possible. Don't want any white space on the e-mail exchange server.
