  1. I had to “convince” my Wing commander to sign the waiver using my network. I didn’t know him, he didn’t know me so others (sq/cc, chief pilot, his execs) had to vouch for me. I haven’t heard one way or the other about others getting denied. The point of the waiver is to screen those that really shouldn’t serve anymore due to whatever (hard to work with, lazy, poor piloting skills, etc). The scroll and waiver are 2 independent processes.
  2. So I can scroll right now if I needed to then
  3. Assuming you will be twice failed of selection: 1. You can request an earlier DOS than the one they give you via Form 780. I'd recommend no less than 2 mos to give you time to outprocess. 2. If you are interested in ARC service, you must request a waiver in conjunction with getting a unit to hire you. The waiver (at least in the past) has to be signed off by the losing & gaining WG/CCs, then goes to NGB for ANG or AFRC HQ for AFRES. It can take a couple months, so you should lay the groundwork now with a unit and your ANG or Reserve ISR (in-service recruiter). When you obtain your DOS, have the recruiter immediately put you on the scroll to obtain a reserve commission as that process can take a while. 2a. There's a gotcha here. If you have a break in service between Reg and ARC, you will be ineligible for promotion until 365 days has elapsed as a reserve. You should do the "Palace Front" program. The ISR should know all about it, but the bottom line is that until you get a reserve commission via scroll, do not leave RegAF. 3. If you write a letter to the board which causes your 2nd non-selection, you will not get separation pay. If you eventually get a reserve retirement pension or VA disability payment, you would need to pay back separation pay anyway, so this may not be a big deal unless you need the money now. 4. Speaking of VA disability, if there are any issues you don't have adequately documented with the medical folks, now is the time to get it done. 5. Prepare for a civilian job. Charm school, suit, lose weight, resume, applications, logbook, mil to civilian certs, ATP, 1st class med, etc. All this takes loads of time.
  4. ARPC is doing extra-legal bs. They put you in the IRR but not with a commission. They refer to this as the parking lot. There is no legal basis for this but they do it anyway. When you get hired by the guard or reserve you will go to a recruiter who will then put your name on the list for people to be approved for reserve commissions, aka the scroll. Then a few months later you will have a reserve commission. It is at this point you can petition the AFBCMR to resolve your break in service, possibly, by extending your RegAF DOS to butt up against the day you received your reserve commission.
  5. Can @Chida or anyone else shed some light on my situation? I separated from active duty about a year ago as a Captain with four years TIS. My DD-214 says Honorable, has my proper rank/grade, as well as my reserve obligation date for the IRR. Narrative reason for separation was FBK (completed active duty service commitment). A few days ago I got in touch with the Reserve Service Programs Branch (DPAMR) at ARPC regarding an unexpired UIF I had at separation. I wanted to ensure that it had been destroyed and removed from my career brief since it was due to expire last month. They've confirmed that it has in fact been removed from MilPDS, but they also told me that the PAS code I currently hold indicates that I was discharged and hold no current status, even in the IRR. According to them, it is SecAF policy not to scroll officers into IRR from the RegAF that have UIF's, even those that have a remaining MSO. They said that I am still eligible to seek Guard/Reserve jobs but that any prospective commander will have to submit a moral waiver with my packet. Here's where I get confused. I checked Milconnect that @Chidahad talked about in another thread, and it states that I am in the IRR. So milconnect and my DD214 say one thing, but ARPC is saying another. My biggest concern is that if I no longer have a commission in the IRR, then I won't be able to join the guard even though they claim otherwise. As it has already been said on this and other threads, I thought it was law that you had to serve your entire MSO barring some kind of punitive discharge or ETP.
  6. Scroll up a few posts and you'll see my edited timeline with my orders dates included. NGB approval to OTS dates was about two months, with UPT dates following about 1.5months after that (or 3.5mos total from NGB approval)
  7. https://mattstoller.substack.com/p/how-bill-clinton-and-american-financiers?s=w This article could go in several threads right now, but scroll to the P.S. line of that post for what's relevant here. Long story short, "Jacque [Gansler] not only hollowed out the Defense Industry, he did the same to the ability of DoD to manage the industry."
  8. 2 if you don't have twitter, use incognito/private browsing to scroll at will.
  9. I might have just found out another trick to find your RNLTD. Might need someone else to verify it though... On the assignments page where the "EFMP Application" link is, there is a "Report Not LaterThan Date (RNLTD) Change Request" option 1. Click it 2. It goes to a myPers site "https://mypers.af.mil/app/answers/detail/a_id/24434" 3. On this site if you scroll to the bottom to "Related Resources there is an option for "RNLTD Change Request Application" This showed my RNLTD before it showed up in my CDB or anywhere else. You might also be able to just go straight to step 2 or 3 also. Hope this helps!
  10. So as an aspiring military aviator....am I better off bailing and trying to make a difference some other way? Make a bunch of money lugging a 767 through the sky, than donate it to fosters kids or something? Is flying that F-15 jut a nasty bamboozle nowadays? This isn't like a gotcha question btw man. It's dead ass. I have talent, watching what's happend in the middle east has for sure turned most people I know away from the military. They just have no faith. I have faith in the people who make up the hammer (the military), but seeing both right and left fail miserably lately, the military can be the best in the world but it doesn't matter if a bunch of drunken fools are the ones swinging it. It's not wrong, it's a product of the universe and an unavoidable paradox. A private entity is a group of people who want to do something a certain way. It is hard to say "people need to be free to do whatever they want"....but a private entity..which is just "people"....can't. Imperfect world unfortunately, Okay, this is almost worth its own thread. I personally am a fan of a much larger state militia/national guard model rather than a large active duty force. I think it produces a much more rounded decision maker, since their paycheck isn't solely determined by "war/preparing for war". It also engages more everyday citizens with the military. IMO most people I know don't know or really care about Afghanistan, what were doing, etc. Just want to mow the lawn, scroll through their feed and light the grill. I do not think lobbying has any place in government. I would argue it is the root cause of our governments continued inability to function efficiently, to the point where a strong central state like China is going to be able to out hustle us very soon, even if it costs their own people in the long term. Let's build it. Concur. Giving up guns is a short term gain (less shootings/homicide) but a VERY large long term loss. The American citizen should ALWAYS have a way to resist the government. If the government over steps enough and enough people revolt, the people will always maintain power. This only works however with a population that remains educated. A bunch of ignorant people with guns can be quite counterproductive. Also....imagine if the Chinese invaded us tomorrow...the amount of resistance the every day citizen could generate even if our military was defeated would be a real thorn... And I appreciate that. Back at ya, its sound stupid/corny, but not enough Americans engage with other people who may not think like them. IMO that is what is driving our struggles. It isn't left/right. There shouldn't be a left/right.
  11. Another case study about "breakthrough" infections of healthcare workers in Israel: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2109072?query=recirc_mostViewed_railB_article Lots of medical jargon, but you'll get the idea if you scroll down to the "Discussion". Sorry, I edited this a few times.... I'll admit, I am not a huge fan of the idea of getting a piece of metal shoved in my arm and having some "mystery" substance injected into my body. I've never been a fan of shots since I was a kid. I am not sure there are many people who actually enjoy the process. I was fishing with my kid earlier the day of my COVID shot and hooked myself right in the thumb. It was pretty deep... blood everywhere/lots of cursing involved. Pulled it out, applied pressure and kept fishing.... I honestly didn't even feel the COVID shot. I dodged the anthrax shot for as long as I could and managed to get into the AOR without it a few times (they did get me on the last rodeo, however), but I'm intelligent enough to recognize that the data is the data (which we didn't have and probably will never have for the anthrax series btw so I'm still skeptical on that one...) I know that vaccinations are essential for a healthy planet. No matter what your religious belief are, you should be able to recognize that medical research is one of the most invaluable things we have. There are actually people out there that live and breath this stuff in order to better the health of human-kind and probably have no interest in injecting some sort of locator chip into your body. Are there side effects to vaccines? Yes. There will always be. There are side effects to Advil and Tylenol (ulcers and liver failure... still want to take them for your headache?). Are the side effects rare? Yes. I'm on Day 2 since my first poke. Last night my arm felt about as sore as it would from a Tdap jab and I felt a little more tired than usual, but this morning I feel "normal". Was this vaccine made quickly? Under the circumstances, it was, but can we recognize that maybe vaccine technology has advanced to the point where it is possible to make a vaccine in less than a decade? Isn't that something we ultimately want to combat things like COVID? When will the next COVID be? This stuff seems to happen every 10-15 years. Why must the rate at which we create a vaccine turn into a government conspiracy? The propensity for anti-vax'ing isn't just associated with COVID. If you look at the flu vaccine maps, the same states that are low on COVID vaccines are notoriously low for the flu vaccine as well. I'd imagine it's the case with all vaccines. Why? Can anyone explain that one?
  12. Holy smokes dude, if anyone is chugging down propaganda from media shills, its you. Antifa has gone more quiet because a leftist administration that has worked to advance many of the things they demanded is now the regime in power. The notion that they are just hippies that don't like neo-nazis is f*cking laughable and makes me wonder if you aren't just trolling. Or maybe you really believed that the shit that went down over the summer of 2020 was just a "summer of love". Hunter's laptop story was effectively silenced by big tech. And the whole Hunter Biden story only continues to get richer (just like Hunter Biden) as anonymous buyers pay massive sums for his garbage art, sums that not even established artists could pull down for their works. Wonder where that money is coming from? BLM as an organization that simply wants black lives to matter as much as white ones is a flat out lie and a quick scroll through their own website will tell you as much. It has literally been defined, linked to, etc.. multiple times in this very thread.
  13. Thanks for the encouragement, it has really fueled my drive, but it's something I wish I would have known two years ago when I started this process. I'm actually far from O4 and still relatively young, but the question that I can't win with in the interviews goes along the lines of this: "Can we expect you to be an Lt again when you come back to the squadron from training? (making popcorn, taking out the trash, etc.)" It's a catch 22 because my biggest strength in my application is my Air Force experience and leadership roles I've already had to take on in active duty, but I know squadrons are looking for a FNG when they hire someone for UPT. In the sense of learning as a Lt, I'm all about it and ready to absorb all the knowledge I can as a student, but the more I talk about my active duty experience I feel as though it is hurting my chances more than helping. I'd imagine the time it takes to scroll isn't as big of an issue now with the length of time it takes to get a training slot, but who knows, that could be part of it as well. I'm definitely glad I went active and became an officer, but it feels like in an ironic twist, going active duty in the Air Force actually is my biggest source of drag in this process.
  14. Are you a senior O3 in the scroll for O4? I was a rated guy, from another branch, and at time felt like I was some type of rated “bastard” that would bring some kind of baggage to the transfer process. Perhaps is not you, or your scores but the process to bring guys like us over is someone difficult and a dark hole of some type. It also felt like it was simpler to bring an off the street guy on board vs me. Anyway... I don’t have the secret recipe for ya nor do I have the special souse to tell ya about. All I can say is come to peace with the fact that your at a disadvantage. Chase the daemon and let all the rejection TBNT emails fuel your hunger to get hired somewhere. And if it all fails, ya can always join the army and go fly for those bros. Quality of life might get downgraded a bit though FYI... Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  15. https://www.nvsos.gov/sos/elections/voters/election-turnout-statistics Here's an example. You can scroll down to 2016 and see 20,000 votes were counted on Nevada after week 1 had passed. They stop counting when there's nothing left to count and waiting for another batch of legally postmarked mail in ballots, or when they are counting votes and report them all at once as was the case in Michigan (giving the impression of a pause).
  16. Didn't scroll to yesterday. My bad, got zero issues admitting I don't Twitter good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Hey guys, I have a very specific question for the peanut gallery; it only applies to Reserve AGR flyers so if you're not one you can scroll on. BACKGROUND: I had significant difficulties getting my orders extended to 20 despite having been granted career status (another long story) that led to my being unable to apply for AvB under the FY20 bonus before midnight 30 Sept. Therefore, I won't be able to sign the FY21 bonus until it comes out in (I'm being told) June of '21. On the reserve side, my airframe has achieved excellent manning levels (AGR), therefore I anticipate between that and the airline situation, the bonus is going away for me in '21. This means that because of delays caused by ARPC I am liable to lose out on $140K worth of bonus, all due to bureaucratic incompetence. GET TO THE POINT: (Again, Reserve AGR Only) Does anyone know of any circumstances in which a waiver for the bonus signup cutoff requirement was granted? Has anyone lawyered up? Do you think I should after exhausting all the normal lines of effort? Just thought I'd ask the hive mind, this is a pretty huge bummer.
  18. Promotion Increments for 1 Nov & 1 Dec are loaded to MyPers .... Officers Promotions --> (scroll down for) Increments to Lt Col EDIT: Forgot part 2 ... CC's/SR's have your specific line numbers, otherwise it should flow thru MILPDS to vMPF (Career Data Brief) within 24-48 hrs.
  19. Not at CHS anymore. I assume you're a viper guy. So I get the single seat mentality and wanting options. Scroll the map over and you've got Vance with barriers, and SPS down to the south has the same. TIK has about as much city around it as TUL depending on the runway. Also, TUL has vipers based there as well, so I would guess it would not be unusual for one of their IFEs to recover to home field. If a base needed to maintain a capability because big AF needs/wants it, it'll be tasked to the base. If not, then big AF just doesn't think it's important. Maybe the requirement was reviewed and deleted by the staff. If the HAF or ACC staff just missed it, well, that sucks. If it's a continuing ops issue, then up-channel the need up through your wing and to the staff. And if it's truly important, and really was only $100K, it'd be easy for money to be moved to fund it if ACC or big AF really wanted the capability. Agree that parachutes shouldn't be plan A/B/C, and that generally heavy aircraft have more fuel/redundancies/time to handle emergencies. But sometimes you don't, like wing fires (no way to put out the fire, and it has happened in the C-17 in the past) or cargo fires (may not have the capacity to effectively fight the fire or jettison the cargo), and it's a race against time to get on the ground. Stuff costs money to maintain and operate, and the AF (and bases) budgets are just going to get tighter moving forward. It sucks, and hopefully your community has good people on staff to defend what you need to hack the mission safely.
  20. Scrolling only applies to AD and AFRC officers to the best of my knowledge so that's probably why no one on a Guard base has heard of it. (I've been AD, Reserve, and Guard in my career). In the Guard, Federal Recognition is the name of the game because you can't promote without that. Currently, I'm on AD in Air Force ROTC and scrolling is very important as we can't commission any cadets until they are scrolled. Here was one notice to us from HQ: On Friday, 27 Sep XX, SECDEF signed the AFROTC scroll submitted 6/20/XX for over 200 cadets. Sounds like you had some AD "leaders" trying to scare you out of getting off AD back in the day without out any actual knowledge on their side. Go Guard! (I'm heading back there soon!).
  21. WTF is this scroll? I jumped to the Guard 8 years ago and all my AD commanders warned me about getting “scrolled.” Is it like the “9th hole at 9?” Nobody, FSS, recruiting, nobody on my base knows what “the scroll” is. Please educate me.
  22. This checks. 180 days is the standard timeline, but workable at 120. I'm in the process right now. I asked for, and got approved, a 90 slip in my separation just for COVID, but I would have been plenty comfortable for separation, and I started the process about 200 days out. It should be as simple as applying online through vMPF and digitally submitting the form requesting a change in your separation date. I had to stay on top of my local personnel flight, but my request was approved in 10 days. Getting separation orders is a different story. That requires AFPC to do things, and your MPF to do things, most of which the won't want to do until 90-60 days from the separation date...when you'll be on leave...so engage early and often when the MPF until they get the point that you're not to leave them alone until you get orders. Important side-notes: - Yes, it's uncomfortable telling an airline you'll be available for training when you don't (and can't) have orders in writing yet. It's hard to take it on faith that Big Blue won't hose you in the end, but we don't really have a choice. Set your availability date no earlier than the date you calculate to start your terminal leave (which you can't submit for until 60 days prior to it starting). If in doubt, go to finance and have them calculate it for you. - If you're separating for AFRC/ANG, engage with the in-service recruiter (ISR) ASAP. Things like getting on the scroll for a AFRC commission can take three months. - Have a plan A, B, C, D and Z, and don't rule any of them out until you're off IOE at your airline. God Speed! FF
