  5. Gen Austin Miller made the call, although Biden & Blinken put him in a box: they imposed a troop cap which made staffing BAF along with the embassy/HKIA impossible. Then Blinken said we cannot withdraw from the embassy due to optics, ergo BAF must close. And because they were unimaginative and underestimated the enemy, they assumed GIRoA could hold out until 2022. Miller pushed back but ultimately saluted and executed. He should have resigned instead. McKenzie, the COCOM/CC, took command from Miller (meaning the COCOM absorbed what had been its own 4 star command, you can imagine how butter smooth that COMREL change was) in July of 21 I believe, after BAF was handed over and when the assault on the outskirts of Kabul began in earnest. He failed to take any bold action although several of us were sending very clear recommendations and security warnings. By early August it was an insane situation: the Taliban was moving openly in large formations massing artillery and supplies as close as Maiden Shar and all ANA checkpoints on Highway 1 had fallen. Camp Commando had fallen. We were going Winchester and not slowing them down; our own FIRES process was complicated by surrendering ANA personnel and enemy use of their (our) equipment /uniforms. The AAF ran out of munitions and ceased flight operations. I landed in HKIA after one sortie and stated clearly: we must initiate the NEO now. The front office for the 2 star in Kabul (senior US Officer in country) told me “not possible, the Turks won’t allow it.” The Turks were running HKIA at the time. 3 days later the Turks were burning all their papers and excess equipment as they ran to their own aircraft to escape the fall. A lot to digest from the experience. My biggest surprise has been that absolutely no one higher wants to hear about it. There was no AAR, no hot wash, no internal mil attempt to investigate and figure out where it broke down. Just sweep it all under the rug, too embarrassing. The AF history guys did a quick report, although it was mainly focused on the 2.5 week mobility surge and they didn’t even know my unit existed. My AAR is now in their secret addendum, but the document is shortsighted by exclusively focusing on the evacuation rather than how the hell we allowed July-Aug to ever occur. Without any accountability and with the same idiots in charge, we should unfortunately expect another epic strategic humiliation.

  6. Not a fan of Trump, but there is no way you can convince me the last four years under Biden were better! Had Trump won, our economy would most likely be doing better, our foreign and domestic policies been more focused on important things than wokeness and transgender recognition, and honestly I believe most Americans would have a lot more pride in this country! The fact that Biden even won (if he even did!) and pretty much every action he has taken over the past four years has been a major embarrassment to the US. This has got to be the largest amount of horseshit claims I've ever seen in my life, and I did 25 years in the USAF! The Biden-Harris Record | The White House Does the White House really think everyone is so stupid to believe all that?!? Again, I would prefer a different candidate to vote for, one more along the lines of Reagan in the 80s; but once again we are stuck between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. I for one would rather endure the Giant Douche then to spend another four years having a Turd Sandwich shoved down our throats!

  10. Honestly it was a ballsy move by Iran, if they had killed any US with the TBM strikes on IZ I think things would look different right now. The mood was lethal. When we had zero casualties (granted many folks had TBI) the decision was made to stand down. It could have easily gone the other way. Fun side note: since they destroyed our hangar with TBMs I used the event to clean up 5 years of property book shenanigans. Seriously, it was very beneficial. For anyone reading this: if your stuff ever gets destroyed by the enemy, seize the opportunity to do your unit a solid.

But someone else's mental health issue is not mine to track until I meet them and I learn the specifics of their case. In my world, there are men and women. Some have mental health issues.

  16. Who here said America isn't great? It's a feeble attempt at a strawman argument. We're criticizing those who are leading the country. Why can't you make that distinction? We were forced out of one of two strategic anti-terrorist bases on the African continent while our former host cozies up to Russia. It was errors from senior leadership that lead to an this undesirable outcome. They actually are to blame. Because non of us spent our careers trying to reach a high level position in the DoS, we're not allowed to criticize them? Weren't you an ROTC instructor or something? How were you personally conducting foreign policy? I don't personally hold office, but my mother is state level house representative and my next door neighbor and former employer is a state senator. I am involved in both of their campaigns continuously. Things go fairly smooth in our state, but I do occasionally interact with my US representatives at certain events. I've pleaded with them on certain issues and if I get an honest answer, it's always the same. If you don't compromise your principals and cut deals, you're sidelined. If you think you can show up to DC, be good person, and make the country a better place, you're the most naive person on the face of the planet. Look what happened to @congressman. By all accounts, a fairly decent dude when he was elected, had an emotional breakdown, remained broken, compromised, was used, and was tossed aside. Given that you have a tendency to adopt the official narrative as your personal heartfelt opinion, and gleefully cheerlead things like mask mandates and forced vaccinations, you would likely do very well in DC. Probably better than @congressman. So why haven't you? Because our leadership is doing so well they don't need your help? I expect lectures to us in the threads about migration, inflation, etc, and that we shouldn't complain because everything is awesome and someone somewhere else has it worse.

  17. Y'all are the sorriest bunch of pessimists I’ve ever seen, seriously. “Damn, the federal government and our foreign policy are so bad I just spent 20+ years working in the DoD and personally conducting American foreign policy.” 🤦‍♂️ Freaking sack up. Don’t be doomer Gen Z kids who think everything is inexorably fucked and they are to blame (bonus, everyone gets to fill in the they with whomever they want!). Be a good person and family member, be a good officer / pilot/ Commander / etc., be a good citizen and vote, run for office, etc. If something is broken try to fix it. You won’t always succeed but you should still try. It’s not all hopeless, everyone in charge isn’t just a moron in dire need of your brilliant counsel, but if you really think you can do it better then do it better. Talk is cheap, action isn’t, but it’s well worth the cost. I was taught all this shit as a child, were you guys not? America is already great, we’re not going anywhere fast, and yes we have our flaws but modern western liberal democratic capitalism is the worst system…except all the other ones. 🇺🇸

  19. At some point I'll write out the utter shit show of DOS on 14-15 Aug during the embassy evac. And nothing improved for the remaining 16 days. As a commander on the ground, I felt sold out and abandoned by every level above 06. On the plus side, there was no one to stop me from doing what I thought best.

  20. Wonderful job by Biden trying to take Easter away from all the Christians and rebrand it Transgender Awareness Day of Visibility. It is a free country, dress how you want, date who you want, be what you want but to purposely hijack a religious holiday with great meaning to many Christians is a direct assault on people of faith by demented Left Wing extremists. As if to pour a little salt in the wound, the White House has banned Religious-themed designs from the White House Easter egg art contest tomorrow. Trump selling bibles is stupid, the liberal hate of faith is sickening.

  27. I supposed banning religious symbols at the White House Easter Egg is a long established tradition as well? A few days ago Biden made a big deal and released his proclamation and said nothing about Easter until last night when he felt the backlash and was forced to acknowledge a Christian holiday. All this after he celebrated Transgender Remembrance Day a few days before Thanksgiving. I for one find it awfully suspicious that Transgenders can’t even pick a single day they celebrated…how many times each year are we forced to celebrate them! Very shady. 👀 Frankly it’s a slap in the face to all the upstanding single gender people in this country who are forced to keep track of these multiple days when maybe the dress/lip stick/high heal stores will be closed. Jesus Christ, pick a day and stick with it Transgenders!

  31. Good Old Lawman, such a jovial guy, finds a way to turn every conversation into some weird, unsolicited, dick measuring contest. I know an Air Force TACP who killed a bunch of guys with his rifle. That’s way more dead guys than a lot of Army Infantry dudes have killed…See how obnoxious that sounds? Anyway, always loved this story. Air America UH-1 with an air to air kill on an AN-2. https://theaviationgeekclub.com/incredible-story-air-america-uh-1d-huey-shot-north-vietnamese-2-colt-biplane/

  34. This is all you need to know. That's it. Everything else is just noise. In every other Court in America you have to have standing to bring forward a case. Even if someone beats the shit out of you, you have to tell the authorities that you want to press charges, or nothing can be done. New York decided to press charges on behalf of a "victim" that did not feel victimized.

  37. There is no explaining any of it other than PFM. An admin master sergeant just retired from my base after a career of clerk work, where he only deployed once, to a desk at the deid. Dude has 100% disability. Meanwhile, an old fighter pilot who has deployed countless times and can't look behind him without turning his entire body around is sitting at 40%. He who complains/documents the most, seems to end up with a high rating.

  40. It all makes sense though when you realize it’s all just to bribe people to vote for you. A bunch of these lefties probably know it will kill jobs, so they get a 2 for 1 bribe. Tell the poor people they’re going to make $25 an hour, you get their votes. Natural economics takes over and said employees now lose their jobs and need govt suppprt; perfect opportunity to bribe for further votes with more govt handouts.
