Here's a solution that I've thought on for awhile... leave the GOs in place until they solve the problem. Make tours task-oriented rather than time-dependent. Nothing gets solved because nothing HAS to get solved-- it just depends what you can "say" you've done to your boss and on your OPB. And the bloated staffs with career civilians know that they just have to mind the clock until the latest guy goes away. That's why we've been talking about the pilot retention crisis for TWENTY YEARS. Capt Zero remembers the first visit from The Bobs asking why we CGOs thought our peers were getting out-- back in 2004. And it wasn't a new problem then. Starting at DO, you should be given a task to complete. For most DOs and CCs, that will be a full deployment cycle-- 2 years. Take a squadron from reset through ready. Do a good job? Move up and on. Don't do a good job? Thank you for your service. Same for every O-6 and up. Here's your tour-- here's what I need you to do. You have four months to tell me how long it's going to take. Do a good job? Move up and on. Fail? Thank you for your service-- it's time to retire / fire. Make it about what you actually get done, not what you say you've done. Will never happen-- because most GOs have risen on their ability to say what they've done-- the system worked just fine for them, so why would there be an impetus to change?? There are some out there who can walk the walk and have the stories to prove it. Too many are just paper tigers, with their accomplishments being as thin as the OPBs they're printed on.4 points

UPT select! 96 Pilot, 86 PCSM, PPL, #1 at the wing. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this forum, provided insights, and all sorts of helpful info. Didn’t get picked up out of ROTC or supplemental boards, but God did it!3 points

UPT select! 99 Pilot, 94 PCSM, #1 at the wing. No PPL This was my third time trying. First year was shot down at the GP. Non select last year and picked up this year. if you were an alternate or non select, don’t give up! Focus on leadership opportunities and awards. They help make the package very competitive.3 points

OK, it's only Wednesday; but this can't wait... U.S. pilot who vanished during Vietnam War spy mission accounted for A United States pilot who disappeared while conducting a spy mission during the Vietnam War has finally been accounted for, military officials said Tuesday. U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Donald W. Downing was assigned to the 557th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 12th Tactical Fighter Wing, 7th Air Force in September 1967, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency said in a news release. Downing, 33, was piloting one of two aircraft in a nighttime armed reconnaissance mission over what was then known as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on Sept. 5, 1967. While the two planes were on a run to the target, the first saw a "large, bright fireball in the air," according to the agency. Downing did not respond to radio calls to his F-4C Phantom II. And though search and rescue efforts started at daylight, electronic and visual searches of the area found nothing. (Full story at title link) A nickel in the grass! 🫡🫡3 points

So you lack the ability to critically examine things people do? Remember years back when the okay hand gesture was a white nationalist symbol and it was all the rage to name/shame those doing it.3 points

I think it's actually really simple. The GOs see that the air force is falling apart and they know real solutions will be painful and risky to their career advancement/political ambitions. So they focus on things they can easily control like uniform nonsense, and pretend that's the "real" root cause of our issues. Same thing happens in politics. Can't solve any of our real problems.. just do some dumb shit that makes it look like you're addressing problems, like re-naming Fort Bragg or the Gulf of Mexico2 points

Context is important... At the Presidential Parade at Capital One Arena, Musk gave a speech where he thanked supporters for reelecting Trump and expressed his enthusiasm for the administration's goals. During his speech, Musk said: "I just want to say thank you for making it happen, thank you." He then pumped his hand against his chest, extended his straightened arm upward toward the crowd, with his fingers outstretched and palm facing downward. Immediately after, he said, "my heart goes out to you. It's because of you that the future of civilization is assured."2 points

The complaint in the report comes from Danielle Dietrich...who is not the sister of Pete's ex-wife. Danielle is the ex-wife of Pete's brother. It may not matter, but Pete's getting Kavanaugh-ed in the final minute of his confirmation process raises many doubts about the accuracy of the source. Single-source reporting in the intel world sucks unless the source has the street cred to back it up. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/senators-received-affidavit-containing-new-allegations-pete-hegseth-de-rcna188342?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma&taid=678ff942749f2f0001051b76&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter Money quote from the NBC reporting: "Belated claims by Danielle Dietrich, an anti-Trump far-left Democrat who is divorced from Mr. Hegseth’s brother and never got along with the Hegseth family, do nothing to change that," he said in a statement. "After an acrimonious divorce, Ms. Dietrich has had an axe to grind against the entire Hegseth family," he added. "Ms. Dietrich admits that she saw nothing but is now falsely accusing Sam of lying..." Samantha's (actual ex-wife) is getting her lawyer involved...so pop that corn indeed!2 points

I don't have EMDS (E. Musk Deranged Syndrome), and I think he should stick to cars , but I saw the video and it looks pretty close to a Hitler move. I bet if any of us did that at work tomorrow, a bunch of us might be out of a job, even if we say, my heart goes out to you. He's getting roasted for it, which I think is a good thing. It should remind him to know better, unless of course, he did it intentionally. And that too is a bad look. And silencing the critics just makes more noise.2 points

Do you suppose it could be a previous member who recently announced they were leaving the forum in a hissyfit over a post about Elon Musk, had a history of posts criticizing Musk, and accusing the right of being Nazis? Hmmm.... Let's see: https://www.flyingsquadron.com/forums/search/?&q=Musk&quick=1&author=Negatory&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy https://www.flyingsquadron.com/forums/search/?&q=Nazi&quick=1&author=Negatory&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy I guess It could be just coincidence, and not someone who created an alt account and went straight to a political thread and picked up where they left off. yeahright. @Negatory My question for you still stands:2 points

Congrats everyone! One thing we did last year was give scores, strats and anything else that made our package stand out. That way when people are applying the next year they could see who got picked up and how their package looks compared to them.1 point

The latest MSD I could find with information regarding this is from 2020. It says "For initial applicants, tympanic perforation or surgery is disqualifying until 120 days post-operative and hearing is normal." It also says "Any conditions that interfere with the auditory or vestibular functions are disqualifying." If you had surgery prior to FCI and it was successful, you would be GTG 120+ days post surgery at your FCI (makes life easy). If you chose not to get the surgery until later, just be careful what you report at FCI as the second statement could come into play and they could DQ you pending surgery. Not a big deal, but could be an administrative headache. Either way works.1 point

Russia is and has been a threat to US interests since 1945 (maybe 1918?). China is a bigger threat right now, but if you're fighting two guys at once and one falls to a knee, it isn't time to ignore them, it is time to stomp their face so they are out of the fight for a long time allowing you to focus on the other guy. Is it expensive to fund Ukraine? Yes. Are we getting a way better return on that money compared to much of the other junk we burn our national treasure on? Absolutely. This is another Russia in Afghanistan scenario except the "good guys" aren't Islamic terrorists. We'd be foolish to walk away from this opportunity to spend some money and help an enemy bleed themselves out. Way better to defeat an enemy via a proxy war than face them directly in a war yourself. And that doesn't even address the good of helping a free people defend themselves.1 point

Definitely, guys in my position are not advocating for “push it all to the sim” at the cost of air under ass. But we do need guys to get proper levels of training for the missionized stuff, and right now they are not getting that in live fly. Lots of local part task training flying can still happen in conjunction with what sims should be. The two do not have to be mutually exclusive.
As an aside, I'll say it was shocking going through a 4th gen Guard B course (everyone with >1000 hours and an experienced IP) before doing a 5th gen active duty TX (half of the people TX->IPUG types with few hours in the jet). Night and day in terms of instructional quality. Even if the students were the same quality, the B course instruction would result in a different product.
Absolutely. Way too many inexperienced IPs in AETC on the 5G side at least, been gone from 4G too long to have any pulse on that.1 point

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with this Musk thing. It's in no way comparable to any normal human gesture. If you're in the military, the most support you should offer is, "Yeah, I don't know what he was trying to do but sure looks bad to me. Hope he doesn't do it again." Sure, he clearly has some issues - so maybe it's literally just him being on the spectrum. We can still condemn it because, checks notes, not all autistic people are cozy with symbols of far right authoritarianism. Moreover, he wound up saying, "only AfD can save Germany, end of story." The leader of the AfD is a far right politician who wants to "move beyond Germany's shame over Nazi-era atrocities" and whose grandfather was a Nazi judge. And, Musk is also from apartheid South Africa. If it talks like a duck and walks like a duck... (note, not saying he's a literal Nazi, but far-right authoritarianism and anti-immigration etc. are opposed to American ideals) All that to say, he's at best an idiot and at worst a want-to-be authoritarian. Henry Ford would be proud. Either way, we all support and defend the Constitution, not any one party or any individuals.0 points

None of this matters because according to the progressives as what they said before this past November 5th, if Trump were to win, then it would be the end to our democracy, since he’s a wannabe dictator, traitor, rapist, etc. But now that Trump has won, what are these progressives going to do? Start a revolution? Get their states to secede? Move to another country? If you’re really this concerned, don’t you do something? Or was all that crap they said before November just BS rhetoric?…which is why I don’t care what they think about Trump, what Elon Musk says or does, whether or not they like Hegseth, on and on. Progressives only care about their ideology, and that’s it, and that’s all they have.0 points
