  1. holyfuckballs I deeply admire your honesty and trust. Welcome to the Thunderdome. We have some expectations to readjust. I've recently gone through it, so I'll gladly help. PM me, we can sort this out for you. Short answer: Yes you need a Flying Class 1 (FC1) and a FCC radio operators permit. Schedule a flying class one with a civilian AME in your local area ASAP to find out if you've got any hang-ups. If you have major medical issues such as PTSD, Heart murmer, etc...I don't recommend trying to hide...other opinions may differ. If you're comfortable and it's major, bring it up with the AME. If it requires a waiver, expect 8-12 months to get an waivered FAA FC1...so extra time is good. The FCC permit can be completely done online. Google it. Longer answer: Congratulations, you are a USAF pilot. That entitles you to be...a USAF pilot. If you're a Colonel or higher, I highly recommend re-learning how to do things for yourself again. I say that only half-joking, as I've seen how those ranks get treated. In the civilian world: no-one cares who you were. FAA has a COMPLETELY different grid of evaluating pilots. Respect that fact, as they are the ones who issue the license. Example: My instructor for the next week had over 10,000 flying hours BEFORE he was 26 and then hired by my current employer. Think about that for a minute. You're in a whole new world. You are now a UPT graduate again who needs to figure out all the new rules of the road. At core, yes, you've got what it takes. The USAF and the FAA do not like each other. Get over it right now. FAA says you need FCC Radio permit. Go get it. (seriously it took 2 minutes of googling and something like 65 bucks, online don't be that guy) FAA says you need FC1. Go get it. The worst thing you can do is foster the mental habit of "but in the air force I..." Just don't. The background you came from has remarkably thin impact on your aviation future beyond how well it prepared you to be evaluated on your ability to fly airplanes...which will rapidly become self evident if you get hired. Seriously. PM me. I've current on the hiring world right now. We'll get you sorted.

  3. Canada and the Democratic Party said nothing when BLM rioted and burned government buildings and businesses. Now a mostly peaceful demonstration is being labeled as a group of extremists. I get it, they are blocking streets and that needs to end but the tactics are unreal. Seizing bank accounts...seriously Canada?

  4. F*ckin send em. I'll happily work my defense contracting job for free for a month or overtime to help pay for em. Its 2022, sick of this autocratic tyrannical bullshit. Whatever stance you have on American politics doesn't matter, this dude 100 percent wants to see America fail, regardless whether the left or right is in office.

  5. I DO think that big tech censoring people and deplatforming folks is a part of what I'm talking about. And I think it's bad we've surrendered so much of our discourse to these giant companies. I think it's insane that Trudeau is seizing bank accounts and trucks from protesters who did nothing more than park their rigs. I think it's crazy there are still schools that are closed. I was on board with the mask mandates at the time because they don't cost much, don't harm anyone, and the data we had said they helped (no, not a 100% elimination of Covid, but a reduction). We have new data that says masks are useless...so I've changed my stance, with new data, and I think we should start getting rid of the mandates. I already thought it was silly to walk into a restaurant with a mask, only to take it off once seated. I still maintain that the masks and vaccines were lawful orders, and I've been ordered to do dumber things for worse reasons. The fact that you immediately thought I was on the other side of that issue, because I was on the other side of a completely different issue, is exactly what I mean. We probably have more in common than we disagree on. But because we disagreed on vaccine mandates for the military, you assume I'm going to disagree with you on every topic.

  8. It was likely the flippant and polarizing way in which you have supported those positions to which he was referring, but keep self-generating examples of polarized bs with zero self awareness.

  12. Word. I don't run this place, I just think a debate about various COVID policies should be hashed out in the dedicated COVID thread before it turns into a major thread derail.

  14. Well it sounds like Covid is a huge factor in evacuating American citizens due many European country’s nazi Covid policies. So yes people are discussing it as it is relevant.

  16. Pretty good older doc "Winter on Fire" on Netflix regarding Ukraine that I don't think has been mentioned here. At the very least we should leverage our economy to give these people weapons to fight for their democracy if they want it. Doing nothing because our recent involvements didn't work out may not be the answer. All the effort spent trying to convince backward countries in the middle east to embrace democracy, and now to not lend a helping hand to one that actively wants it, feels wrong. Doing nothing may be the biggest error yet, I feel like a couple boxes of anti tank missiles ain't gunna cut it.

  23. This^^^^^! I flew in the worst of times. After 11 yrs AD, hired at 35, retired at 59 when pay was at its lowest. Still the best decision I ever made even with commuting the entire time. It appears that many are making airline choses based on upgrade time. It took me 13 years and it wasn't the end of the world especially now with FO's making in their 2nd year what I made on my last day as a CA at a major. NERD

  24. I disagree. First off if you have Sleep Apnea it’s definitely bad for your health (heart, brain, etc.) second you’ll get VA disability of 50% off the bat and once you add up other little issues you have you’ll be at 75% before you know it which is like $2,000 a month-ish (tax-free I believe) plus your retirement. And third I haven’t really had any issues with the FA about my CPAP usage and the FAA doc doesn’t see me having issues getting a First Class. SSRI side note… I’m an active duty pilot and on a SSRI and the FAA doc doesn’t see any issues with me getting a special issuance first class medical…. With that said if I stay on the SSRI it’s gonna cost me $3,000 to $7,000 just to get my first class medical once you factor in the Pyschologist and psychiatrist appointments to include the testing they want me to do. The price varies depending on how I do on my testing. Then the reoccurring appointments/testing is gonna cost me $1,000 to $3,000 a year to keep my first class medical. One Pyschologist that I spoke to recommended I just get off the SSRI and apply for a regular first class and that’s the route I’m thinking. He said it’s much cheaper to get a first class medical while not on an SSRI vs getting a special issuance while on an SSRI. I Just figured I’d give some people first hand knowledge of what I’ve been going through. Basically, it’s doable but costly for the SSRI and the CPAP seems much easier to get approved and much less costly.

  25. If you’ve got the apnea … the cpap is a life changer. if you’re just after the 50% … it’s got a long tail attached if you’re going to require an faa medical.

  26. Sleep Apnea and the FAA As far as getting your FAA medical it is pretty much a non event. You will walk out of the Flight Surgeon with medical in hand. As far as keeping your medical, the FAA requires 75% usage at 6 hours a night. You are required to print off your machines data and submit with your medical each year. 50% VA disability is nice, but realize that you will need to get a travel CPAP in addition to your main CPAP for all your overnights. It sucks wearing the mask, but you do really feel better in the mornings. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  27. Perhaps Biden can just ask those leaders to allow Americans in their country illegally (with our without the shot)…afterall, Biden is cool with people coming into the US illegally without the shot. Yes—this is how messed up the left has become.

  28. Nope. Wasn’t ok then either. We had a protester near where I live that was killed trying to block high speed traffic on the freeway. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Can’t say I’m particularly shocked at the level of cognitive dissonance of people now supporting tactics they lambasted just a year and a half ago. Principles end at politics for some I guess.

  29. I couldn’t give two shits about CNN’s or Fox’s narratives. I appreciate that the truckers are not turning over cop cars, although I don’t think Ottowans are too thrilled about some of the antics displayed so far. But when you block an international border for days or weeks, eventually the authorities will remove you.

  30. Thanks for presenting such a clear example. "This guy supported legal orders for masks and vaccinations for the military. That means he wants to lock everything down and arrest all the truckers! He wants to inject fetuses while they're still in the womb!" Good work. Exhibit 6900 in this thread why the country is so polarized.
