  1. Anybody going to VT from CT/NY area and wanna carpool/ have wing man for drinking? I was gunna fly up but weather looks sketchy.
  2. TBNT from JAX after a phone interview. Anybody make it thru and get an in person?
  3. Copy. I still haven't gotten anything as a data point for others.
  4. Makes me feel a little better, I haven't been contacted to setup a time yet as well, I was starting to get nervous and didn't want to bother them in case they were just busy.
  5. What they should have done was made it a pipeline to for the multiple people who want a commission and to fly, but maybe can't get there due to med stuff that makes them perhaps "not deployable". I've talked to a few in the pipeline who got picked up guard units but bounced in medical. A lot of these people get written off for stupid BS, talk about a loss to the AF. You could even make it pre-req that they have tried to commission/would be willing to accept one if offered? Here's one, how about they get to fly the T-6 as a civilian like a guard pilot but also must commissioned or enlisted in the guard doing something non flying. I would do a lot to get into the T-6 but this offer seems soft. Flying a Citabria above the beach and looking at the pretty girls may be the way to go to get to 1500.
  6. Always good to approach any problem from multiple angles but there is book smart and street smart, there ain't one definitive clear answer and there is likely at least some validity to both. I do however think this is way more a street smart problem. Putin is a grade A asshole, but a very street smart dude. Keep it simple stupid. The only reason to fear NATO is if you're uh, doing something bad. Humans are as much academics as we are animals. Academics often forget that, but animals can't comprehend the academics. Ever seen an interview with like a convicted murderer? "Why'd you kill her"....."I don't know, I wanted to".
  7. Maybe they missed on purpose this time. Better to over than under, ya know?
  8. Do you mean any non former civilian hired to be a T-6 IP or the 141 warm body their targeting? I could deal with being hazed/knowing my place/working hard to earn the credibility if it meant time in the T-6 with like minded bros...... but being forced to lick shit off the bathroom floors and being treated like some moron I will not, I've worked way too hard at this point.
  9. Just guessing, but maybe because if they don't need you in 3 years they can cut you loose? Instead of having to pay ya for 10 years? And they save money by not making you an officer/not paying for any of your education? Idk, spit balling. As to why people who are applying wouldn't just go become AF officers, maybe they wanted to but couldn't get the stars to align to make it happen the AD route and that ship has sailed, or they have a condition that makes them non deployable but totally fine to teach flying, or maybe they are actively trying to get hired in the guard but haven't gotten picked up, would rather stay teaching the T-6 for three years than move onto a C-130 etc. Side Question: Can you get hired as a reserve T-6 IP off the street?
  10. Same. But if there is one thing I've learned in life it's to runaway as fast as you can from people who grossly undervalue you and what you can offer. I see it all the time at GD, it's depressing. I'm not talking about myself either, I work with some dudes who are straight up geniuses.
  11. They told me to get lost as well since I didn't graduate 141 program. I respectfully made it clear how foolish that was. I guess 3 engineering degrees with 7 years work experience, no busted rides and training coast guard cadets on the weekends just doesn't compare to that fresh 141 CFI. Whatever man. If that isn't already a redflag indicator that you'll likely be treated as a fourth rate citizen I don't know what is.
  12. I "applied". I think this will attract the purists who want to fly mil high performance but have some obstacles. The financials of this suck, I know a lot of people who who'd say f that I am not moving there to make that when I could be getting greased by the regional to up to fly for a major. Labor of love right? Maybe I could keep a part time gig with GD remotely to pay the bills a little better. And you know what if this did go down I'm not worried about getting shit on, as long as you aim to fly the best you can, which should be the same standard as any other UPT schmuck, who cares if I have no rank.
  13. So I'd like a serious answer on this. I understand the hate toward the idea of it but hear me out. As someone who is "qualified" (Aero/mech engineering, Master's, hockey, 600 hour CFI, 8 years building nuclear subs) but who may have trouble getting a guard slot flying fighters my heart leaped out my chest reading this post and I know I will not be the only one. To get to fly something like the T-6 that can go upside down with the Air Force even if not in the Air Force is a big friggin deal to me and I know I will not be the only one. Can I have a realistic answer as to if this is a good path or not, or will I get shit on as a civilian contractor? Also any idea on what would happen if you can get a guard slot after you accept or a half way through?
  14. Sure, I 100 percent don't want a kid right now. But do you want a pro-self/unable person raising a kid they don't want, or are unable to properly provide for? I’d rather see that child put up for adoption, raised by extended family or see the parents make the necessary sacrifices to raise the child. I would also like to see the adoption process in this country made to work more in the favor of families that are looking to adopt. It’s too expensive and too complicated for many couples to adopt. Fair enough and I commend that, but you yourself are probably above average in work ethic, and are on a forum of generally highly motivated hardworking and successful people even tho everyone digs in on their opinions. Not everyone has it in them to do that, just like not everyone has the courage to kick doors in Afghanistan. Adoption is complicated because it has to be, giving a kid away and hoping it will receive proper care is a large order requiring lots of work, versus simply preventing said kid from forming. “I ended up sticking needles in my arm behind the 7/11” Hyperbole Not quiet. My childhood best friend who I grew apart from in high school ODd on Heroin in his early 20s. Am I saying he should have been aborted? No, but the idea that bringing a child into this world without full dedication and parental guidance won't potentially lead to suffering and pain is not true. My mom miscarried before me BTW, so the other one died and I lived, we have a magnolia tree planted in the yard for him/her. Fair? No, but neither is life. I am truly sorry to hear that. Miscarriages are incredibly hard on families. Thank you, my sister did as well, it's never a good thing. Actually, every time you make a parent raise a kid they aren't ready for, you're killing the other kid who they would have had later in life and been able to provide for of his or her life. Kids generally don't do so hot when they aren't loved. Seriously? Every single time? You got me there, there is a spectrum of outcomes likely, I should not have said every. Your turn. Just admit you're either really upset/disturbed by the idea of an innocent mini human being ended (me too, this world is as ugly as it is beautiful) and you cannot emotionally process that sight even if it is for the greater good, or your following some cult like religious guidance. An innocent mini human being ended? Interesting choice of words. And accurate. I honestly don’t think killing our children is “for the greater good” . Using two nukes in WW2 wrecked a lot of kids, it was done for the greater good. So that a bunch of 20 year old males could live instead of getting slaughtered to achieve the same end result. Should we call the B29 crews a bunch of baby/kid killers? The idea that there should be no limit on when a developing fetus can be ethically halted is absurd. But the idea that there isn't a point in time to ethically halt the fetus before it develops into a conscious being is also absurd. Babys/formation of life are cute and part of what makes us human, which is why it is an uncomfortable thought for some Americans. The best solution for 90 percent of people is to practice safe sex but what do I know.
  15. Yea it's this weekend, shoot me a PM if you go. As to meet and greets, I have been to one that was a couple pilots and people and was pretty relax, another was a couple pilots mobbed by like 100 people in the squadron bar. I suck at this process so YMMV, but I wouldn't count on going being a determining factor for getting an interview, but could def lose one as stated. Understand the frustration in whether to use the money on flying vs feeling like you're burning it aimlessly. I took the path of making myself a a civilian pilot first, at the cost of visiting units, it made the most sense for my situation. Others spend the money visiting units and get hired, assuming some spend the money visiting and come up with nothing. If you're young maybe do a little of both, carpool, find someone on here to share a room with/rental car etc. I'd offer to share a room this weekend but I'm bringing the old lady. If you go and need a ride let me know
  16. Sure, I 100 percent don't want a kid right now. But do you want a pro-self/unable person raising a kid they don't want, or are unable to properly provide for? If my parents were to have had me so early that they couldn't properly focus on me/parent me/provide for me and I ended up sticking needles in my arm behind the 7/11, I'd rather they have snuffed me out peacefully before I was conscious and had a clue what was going on. Now I'm not for super late abortions, nor am I for the idea of being completely irresponsible and careless with regards to preventing conception, and you should be able to figure out that you got a bun in the oven within 2 or 3 months before the thing becomes a giant human, but the idea of banning them is absurd. My mom miscarried before me BTW, so the other one died and I lived, we have a magnolia tree planted in the yard for him/her. Fair? No, but neither is life. Actually, every time you make a parent raise a kid they aren't ready for, you're killing the other kid who they would have had later in life and been able to provide for of his or her life. 17. Shot down by the 121st as well, good luck to anybody who got it, they seemed like a really solid unit when I was there. Does anybody know when Florida's meet and greet is? I cannot find the original job posting anymore.
  18. Talk is cheap, so I threw 500 in, least I can do & trusting you it'll go to good use. I CFI near the coast guard academy and have a couple cadets learning to fly. Flew with a cadet the other day who said one of his buddies attending the academy is from Ukraine. Guess he's heading back home after this week to go fight. Sobering to say the least.
  19. Also don't discount the "slow and steady" wins the race strategy. Let's say they got all of Ukraine in a hypothetical, they won't immediately go into the neighboring countries, they'll wait 10-15 years, and then go start an info war to try and erode the neighboring countries from the inside out/get them to stray from NATO. The Russians aren't playing insert large number-D chess, but I do think they were trying to play the long game and use patience/deception as primary weapon in a world with really short attention spans. Looks like they may have f*cked it up tho by over estimating their military's capabilities/morale, corruption tends to have that effect.
  20. I have nothing from the 121st dude. The hill I have chosen to die on is fighters or take my ball and go home, so I am nervously waiting as well.
  21. Because the video he posted basically said that because in the past we've gotten the majority of our fuel from fossil, that's how it will always be going forward in the future. Talk about useless "whataboutism". Did you even watch the video? Or just coming in hot spewin? Edit to add: The video talks about the need to mine metals for batteries. I'd say that's relevant to Tesla's future....
  22. Sure. You're going with the there will be less electrical generation from wind turbines in 10 years time and electric cars are a gimmick. Good luck in life. Why don't you go short Tesla?
  23. I think you missed my sarcasm. The fact that you think fossil fuels don't receive subsidies, makes me wanna cry.
