Aside from the obvious things such as a solid AFOQT/PCSM score, being a good dude, interviewing well, and flying hours, I was wondering if holding a particular AFSC would help you get selected at an ANG or Reserve unit. I'd be applying to fighter squadrons, and I'd imagine it would matter to them more than it would a heavy unit. I'm a JTAC (1C4) that's been to SERE water survival and all that good stuff. Just curious, still gonna knock the other stuff outta the park to be competitive. Thanks!

Hi all, I think I have a pretty good idea of what my chances are just based off the numerous threads here, but I would gladly accept any feedback from you all regarding my own specifics seeing as many of you are landing interviews and getting hired - so you must be doing something right š 28 years old, non-prior Currently working as a senior software engineer (6 years industry experience) with experience leading projects and teams over the past year or so B.S. in Computer Science, 3.13 GPA P94 N88 AA87 V99 Q60 PPL 68 hours PCSM 85 (96 with 201+ hrs) LORs: one from college marching band director and two from military family friends w…

Hello All, I know there have been a lot of threads like it, but I think I have a few questions that make this post stand out. First of all, here are some basic facts about me: Gender: Male Age: 24 Degree: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering GPA: 3.2 Flight Time: 1 Hour (I plan on getting more) Fitness Level: Active, slim build. It has been my dream since I was younger to be a pilot in the USAF. During my freshman year of college, I was in AFROTC. After freshman year I dropped AFROTC due to it affecting my grades in engineering, and me doubting my chances of getting a pilot slot due to medical conditions. I regret…

I left the Air Force (enlisted) to become a pilot and as soon as I got commercial/multi Corona hit. I'd love to be a part of the Guard/Reserve but I'm still finishing my degree and I'm 'old'. Do I even have a chance at this point? Thanks for any guidance.

Hey y'all! my name is Daniel and I'm a Marine Corps veteran currently working on a degree in aerospace at Middle Tennessee State University. Upon graduation I will have the following certificates: Commercial, Multi-Engine Airplane-Land with Instrument Rating as well as CFI/CFII/MEI with around 750-1000 flight hours. I'm looking at doing Air Force Reserve or the Air Guard. I'm not really interested in active duty anymore but I'll do it if I have to. I'm about 5'10, pretty fit with semi-good fitness scores (getting out made me a little lazy) So what are my chances? and what is the first step, and the process, that I need to go throug…

I am a 25 yr old college graduate who used to work as a geologist and now has plans to apply to the WOFT program. So far my packet looks decent: I have a 99 AFQT on ASVAB test. 69 SIFT GPA 3.0 with two undergraduate degrees. The only problem is I have only a former marine pilot and the previous professional engineer I worked under as recommendations. I can get plenty of letters of recommendations in my previous career field, but my recruiter is adamant I need an Army Pilot's rec. What are my chances of getting in without the army pilot letter of recommendation, and what are tips for anyone who also struggled with this. Thank you for any help, and …

About a year ago I had highly competitive scores and was getting guard/reserve fighter squadron interviews left and right. While I never got picked up, I felt that eventually I would get a slot. ...fast forward to today: I was turned down from even getting an interview at a fighter board where I interviewed a year prior and was in the top third of interviewees, I was turned down from the active duty board, and I am not even getting heavy squadron interviews anymore. I have a hunch that there are a few others in my position as well, so I might as well ask this question as broadly as possible: What can we do to improve our chances? The common feedback that …

Hello everybody, I am 28year old male, NOT from United States, currently studying military program specialty in avionics, I have just started third year of five year study program ending in Master's degree. I was selected in green card lottery and I have been seriously thinking about leaving military, emigrating to US, joining Air Force, getting citizenship and completing degree in US using credits from my current studies, this could probably happen in about 4 years and by then i should be around 32-33 years old when trying to apply for OTS and UPT. I know most of people want fighters, i am no different, but i just can't live without atleast trying and ho…

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get a feel for how competitive of a candidate I will be. I have my AFOQT done but still need to schedule my TBAS before I have PCSM scores. My college GPA is probably my biggest hurdle to overcome, it's not great at all, however I've gotten my act together and learned from my failures. GPA is around 2.37 after a few disastrous early semesters, I am not proud of it, but I clawed my way back to graduation. AFOQT scores: P: 98 N: 96 AA: 77 V: 93 Q: 52 I also have my instrument rating, with high performance and complex endorsements and ~360 flight hours at the time of this post. I should have my commercial in a couple week…

Hey everyone, First timer here, thanks in advance for reading my post. I'll be applying to the Civilian AD OTS Boards here shortly, 19OT02 applications are due in January. Hello all, I am new to the flying squadron community. I am a current army helo pilot, CH-47s with 1000 hrs (two deployments - Afghanistan). I am approaching the end of my contract with the army in a couple of months and I've been looking at going Air Force Guard/Reserve. Would love to be able to transition to a heavy/cargo squadron. Looking for advice, suggestions or if someone would like to share their experience on going the unsponsored route. Unfortunately for me, I am 29 years old. I've been looking into going unsponsored, but I don't really know much about it. I recently took the AFOQT and TBAS. PCSM of 77 with a 87 Pilot. I have the hours so I am guessing I must of …

Hey all, Looks like I missed the cut on getting an interview with Oregon. So, I figured it's time to post one of these to try and get a better idea of my weaknesses and areas I can improve on. Of all the upcoming (fighter) boards this year, I figured this was one of my better shots of at least getting an interview, so looks like I have a lot of work to do. Any feedback is much appreciated! Scores AFOQT: 98 / 76 / 82 / 65 / 90 PCSM: 98 (will max once I reach 61 hours) Flight Experience PPL (49.5 hours total / earned at 40) FAA 1st Class Medical; No Limitations Aerobatic Experience: MiG-15, L-39, Yak-52, Citabria Work …

1. Have to go to work in a few hours so, no, not drunk. 2. Posting here, because this is where the target audience is. 3. 20y ago, I was a casual 2Lt waiting to start UPT. 4. -->On reflection, based on a totality of factors, I was dreadfully under-qualified. But somehow, I was there. 5. Pretty sure I blasted Eminem's Lose Yourself every morning driving in from base housing to the squadron, well into Phase 2. Seriously, if you're browsing this forum, my advice is to fight like hell: it's totally worth it!

Hello gentleman, I'm an Officer in the Army National Guard. 5 years ago out of college I applied to a bunch of ANG units and got selected for UPT with one. Everything went smoothly until I had a color vision issue at MEPS (since resolved) which ultimately railroaded me from moving forward with flying in the ANG. I was pretty beat at that point. I was reading the thread in the Aviation Medicine section how the AF has since changed their color vision policy and scoring chart on the CCT exam. I have taken the CCT in the past and have passed it to the now AF standards (I took it under the old standards but not at an AF physical). Ultimately, how feasible is it to d…

Here we go: I know this is a longshot, but if I can envision it, I'm going to make them tell me no or die trying. I got into UPT a short while ago via the active duty UFT board. Into Phase II, I self eliminated. I had a good reason: my spouse has a specialized career and requires re-credentialing with every PCS which results in 3-6 month processes per move and lots of out of pocket fees, which wasn't sustainable over a period of 10 additional years. Additionally, I have a sick grandparent and FIL, and my spouse and I both felt it was a priority to move closer to home. Yes, I'm looking to go back to UPT via a Guard or Reserve unit. Yes, I'll need an ETP sin…
