Got the message today around 1730L...RIF names were released to my Sq. Initial look seemed to match the VSP eligibility year groups. I did recognize names that applied for VSP. I was on the list. Didn't apply for VSP. Good luck to us all! 03' 11M

Most of the guys on this board havent seen a RIF (myself included), but is this what it was like after Gulf 1 and other historic AF RIFs? Air Force notifies force shaping lieutenants 5/10/2006 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- Today, 2,084 lieutenants in the 2002 and 2003 accession year groups will learn if they were selected for retention by the Force Shaping Board. Each officer is being notified personally of their status by their senior rater. Officers deployed will be notified by either the deployed commander or their home station senior rater. The Force Shaping Board, led by a two-star board president, was broken down into panels of …

  4. Started by Regular Dude,

Hey all, My wife and I are both military and according to the FY14 Force Management Program I fall in the "RIF Board" category but my wife falls in the "Force Shaping Board" category (based on our year groups). Does anyone know what the difference is between being RIF'd vs being Force Shaped? From what I understand, they are both equivalent to being laid off by the military, but there has to be a difference (if there are two separate categories). Thanks in advance. ~Just a Regular Dude

  5. Started by Larry Sellers,

Obviously there are a lot of (more) disgruntled rated dudes after the VSP debacle who are still meeting the RIF. Hypothetically speaking, if you were given the option of a "do not retain" on your RRF would you do it? Thoughts on chances of being RIF'd after VSP denial? Potential repercussions of a "do not retain" if retained?

The Air Force lost a great airman today when 1lt Anthony Riggan and his wife nicole passed away in a single engine plane crash in Co Springs on their way home to spend Christmas with family. https://www.krdo.com/news/26248211/detail.html Anthony was a B1 pilot at Ellsworth AFB and a UPT classmate and good friend to me and many in the Air Force community. He and Nicole will be sadly missed.

Nickel on the grass for "Pitbull" McDowell and "Lag" Gramith. They both leave behind wives, and Lag leaves behind twin 7 month old girls. The Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association (River Rats) are setting up 529 accounts for Lag's daughters. I expect donation info in the next day or two, and I will post here when I get the details. Cheers, Cap-10

There is a debate around my parts on what the rules are on dropping a coin on others. My questions... 1) Are there actual rules or is it unit specific rules? 2) Are you allowed to call it a coin or do you have to call it a RMO? 3) If you do drop your coin on someone, does that person have to be from your unit (sts), sq, flt, ect.. or can it be any military member? 4) How long do you have to produce a coin before time expires? Or do you HAVE to have it on your person? 5) If someone doesnt buck up and buy the beer, are there standard punishments to enforce, or do you just get creative? 6) Do AD people actually play this game? Im tired of everyone F-ing this up an…

Not much more to say, but "throw a nickel on the grass, save a fighter pilot's ass." THE quintessential USAF fighter pilot, as far as I'm concerned, and a great loss to the fighter community.

Hi all, I am trying to see if anyone of the 200 people who were at the IRR Muster at (Robins AFB) on August 4th has been paid yet. I spent an hour yesterday talking to ARPC and the Robins AFB pay office and nobody has any idea what I am talking about. I figured there were likely many others who were not receiving pay. If so PM me. Dfas

howzit going guys and gals, I have a question on the rushing process and was curious if anyone had some answers. how long is too long, and you've started to overstay your welcome? Being a DSG, I usually just head upstairs after drill and cruise with everyone, and they usually have roll call which, obviously, rushees aren't allowed in so we hang around outside until it's done. Anecdotally speaking, hanging around that late to just talk story with the pilots after is good faceTime and shows your eagerness for lack of better words. However, this drill, most of the rushees dipped out before the roll call and it was just me and a couple dudes waiting until lat…

Evenin', Folks! I've just returned home from a morning Pilot Pro sortie that started yesterday morning at 0545... Yeah, you read that correctly... YESTERDAY at 0545. We headed down to Roswell to shoot some pro and help out some PJs who needed some HALO jumps. We landed at Roswell and the Front-Right main gear brake locked up on us (nobody jumped on the brakes... just happened)... Hot brakes... smoke... nasty smells... ground egress. I never thought I'd spend 10 hours down at an FBO on a nice, big airport like that.. freakin' 13000 x 200 main runway with a couple of others around 8000 long. The main RWY's even got a Christmastree and had an alert facility at one t…

So for a couple years they've been releasing rated folks to go teach at ROTC Dets. 2 slots just popped up in a location we want to retire so I'm not considering it. Has anyone been through this board/process? I have to write a 500 character narrative/recommendation but there is not guidance about what should be in as far as I can tell. I'm currently sitting at 21 years with a DOS of 2025 (passed over O4). So the 2 year ROTC gig would almost take be to 25 years. I'm going to apply either way... but what are the odds I get picked up? What can I do to increase those odds?

Gents, Time to figure out my next assignment, seeking insights. First tour was as slick nav, 2nd has been in flight test. Will be moving right at my 10 year mark, 9 months or so after Major's board. Mobility mission I knew is pretty much gone. Could go to Pensacola, AFSOC, or ACC to keep flying, but I know staff is coming sooner or later. Considering option of instructing at ROTC. I think it'd be rewarding (in a different way), fun, stable, and conducive to family time & hobbies. Anyone know what happens to aviators after a tour instructing? If it means never returning to cockpit, that might be a deal breaker.

So my fiance and myself (OK, mostly me) are wondering when the heck we'll find out what his orders are for after he commissions? He got a pilot slot last March, goes for his flight physical the last week of August and will graduate and commission June 10, 2007. When do ROTC guys typicaly find out the when and where for their first base? Is there a typical order of what they do (ie. ASBC, then IFS, then UPT?) Does anyone know the typical wait for UPT right now? We're hoping to get married 3 weeks after he commissions - so I was just wondering what anyone else knew. Thanks!

Today, AFPC released the results of the RPA Crossflow Board. Our WG/CC will discuss the actual numbers with us tomorrow. But I know of at least one dude who has been released back to AMC for a move in FY12. I do know that it was only about 10% that were released out of the 500+ eligible.
