After reading over the several AFI’s that cover officer promotions, I still cannot figure out what would happen if you would fail to make major twice. Does anyone have any experience or stories with a situation like this?

I am on the path to a good and rewarding career, but for the past year I have been debating dropping everything I am doing and try to get hired by a unit. Had a talk with a couple of fighter pilots and told me that it is only worth it if I can't see myself doing anything else. The adult me says that I should stick with the medical field career I am pursing, save up for an aerobatics plane and go cloud surfing when I want, and I would also have the time to do other things, travel, go camping, just do nothing. But the 20 year old me says tomorrow is never promised, why not go cloud surfing in the best aircrafts ever created and get paid for it, travel, drop some bombs…

Apparently they took a little sight seeing trip around Guam. Nice little "show of force." I have a hard time believing they were armed with "nuclear tipped" missiles though. https://www.foxnews.c...territory-guam/ The Air Force confirms that two Russian bombers on Tuesday circled the U.S. island territory of Guam, prompting U.S. jets to scramble and respond. Two U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter aircraft, operating out of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, intercepted the Russian Tu-95 bomber aircrafts, which left in a northbound direction, said military spokeswoman Capt. Kim Bender. Bender said no further action was taken but declined to give more details, citin…

Folks, I got the text from my work account, but be on the look out for an article running in the AF Times regarding the force management stuff included in the latest NDAA. I will try not to violate the copyright, but some of the highlights I remember -15 year retirements - VSP - Early Retirement Incentive Pay The two bits of commentary in the story stuck in my memory 1. The author mentioned that the NDAA was rolling out force management options not seen since the post Cold-war Era drawdown 2. A congressional aide was quoted (under anonymity) that law makers said that the services were not planning for large drawdowns...but it seemed quite s…

Not much has been said on the matter outside the local Las Vegas news. Sounds like everyone got out just fine though the rumor mill has it the aircraft is VERY badly damaged ("burnt to the ground" was the exact phrasing). Just hope that everyone is indeed alright. https://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/27/nv-marine-osprey-crash/

I feel like I am getting screwed by the Air Force. I am AFROTC and was awarded a navigator slot as a alternate in Novermber of 2004. 5 days later I was given a pilot slot. In January 05 I went to Brooks. On the 10th of this month, I was told I was DQd from pilot because of my eyes, but I was given a waiver for navigator. However, no navigator slots are available at this time. Because of this, and the timing of it all, I have been slated to be a missile/munitions maintenance officer, but I have not been given a base. They said that I may get a nav slot back if one becomes available prior to commissioning (14 May 05), but if not, I have to take the missile/munitions …

USAF teaching Iraqi's to fly airstrike missions. Iraqi crews ‘ready to go’ on mission Part of slow transition from Air Force reliance By Bruce Rolfsen - Staff writer Posted : Sunday Jul 12, 2009 9:42:57 EDT Airmen deployed to Iraq are teaching their Iraqi counterparts to fly airstrike missions. Today, after fewer than a dozen training flights, two Iraqi aircrews — a pilot and a mission-sensor operator make up an aircrew — are qualified to fire Hellfire missiles from AC-208B Caravans, a military version of the single-engine turboprop Cessna Grand Caravan utility airplane. A third aircrew is in training. “They are ready to go,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Spi…

Question for everyone smarter than me: I am under my last year of AD service. I have 60 days saved, expecting 20 more between beginning of FY20 and 1 June 2020, then add 20 PTDY. I plan on taking the 20 days PTDY spread out in 3 day chunks mid-week, every other week just because. My question is for the remaining 80 day period. If 1June 2020 (retirement date) is on a Monday, do I have to take leave the Sat and Sun prior, or can I just return from leave on Friday and use those 2 extra days somewhere else? TIA

https://www.jqpublicblog.com/curbing-wrongful-termination-in-the-air-force-four-common-sense-reforms/ I've been hearing a lot more lately about a lot of the toxic leadership problems in the Air Force and a few victims of wrongful firings. Thoughts on the content of the post and topic? Has anyone seen or hear about this happening to someone they know?

Well I am pretty slow and it just dawned on me... The F-22 definitly doesn't have a two seat trainer version...but operantly neither does the F-35. So in a couple decades when Vipers and Eagles have been retired...no more two seaters eh? Does the AF plan on stepping up some of the -38 training (or whatever its replacement might be)? Or does it expect simulators will be so realistic by then that all a stud needs is to pass -38's and then sims? Before this I think the Hog was one of the few jets that didn't have a two seat version for training. F-16D, F-15D, F-18D/F, TAV-8B. These are just the more modern ones... Thoughts?

Just wondering if any Fighter Drivers here have any first-hand knowledge of this. Not trying to p*ss anyone off, but if this happened two years running, that's very disturbing... Did The USAF Get Beat Up By India Again? Here's a quick bit of defense-wonkishness, which I simply couldn't resist. No-one's saying so officially, but after the shock of having their F-15s kicked around the sky last year by the Indian Air Force in Russian jets, the USAF must have been hoping to even the score in this year's US/India air exercises. The thing is, the only reports so far (and admittedly they are Indian reports) suggest they got another shock. This year the USAF took F…

Getting PCS'd to Langley. Single JO with no responsibilities. Would like to keep the commute to under 45 minutes knowing that traffic can snarl. Open to buying a house/condo/townhouse or renting. Seems like buying something worth while might be out of my price range after a little bit or searching. Any insight/tips for me? Has anyone lived west of Norfolk/portsmouth and commuted across the bridge? Seems like a gamble.

Article Here's how the USAF could make this a not-shitty 365 for Viper IPs: put a CAFTT det in Dohuk, supply a nice apartment, and a car. Send no support personnel over the rank of E-6. Make the detco an O-4. I guarantee there would be volunteers.

So I read this and it’s only 1 article in a Trump friendly paper but… it seems like Greenland needs some freedom, not necessarily kinetically delivered. https://nypost.com/2026/01/16/world-news/greenlanders-speak-out-against-danish-rule-they-stole-our-future/ Should we force this issue? A new arrangement with a new independent Greenland or no more NATO?

There was some discussion on another post about IFT and I'm not sure how many folks on casual or prior AD know about APT. We have T-38's as well as U-2's here at Beale. Right now we have 1 Global Hawk but it's remote controlled and hasn't flown in over a year so that's besides the point. Anyway, the T-38's are used for currency/profeciency and the backseats are usually empty. I was lucky enought to find out about the APT program through one of the pilots here. I had my first of three egress classes today and will start flying this week or next. For those of you on casual or currently working in another AFSC like me, you can fly as "APT" status with 3 things: …

I'm a LT awaiting UPT at Columbus (Class 06-07) I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction as to where/how I can change my residency to a state that does not require taxes. (ie, TX, FL....some others I've heard, I'm leaning more towards FL though due to the proximity right now) What is involved in this process? Where do I go? Do I also need to get a new driver's license and auto plates? What's the cost involved? I have heard that all it takes to change your residency is to simply have an address (ie PO Box) in the desired state. Is it really that simple? As always, thanks a lot!
