  1. Is this an Onion or Babylon Bee story? Because it sure reads like satire to me...it's just a tad hyperbolic. Michael Beschloss: GOP Wins Mean Brutal Murderous System (mediaite.com)

  3. Straight from the CJCS Website: Today, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have no executive authority to command combatant forces. The issue of executive authority was clearly resolved by the Goldwater-Nichols DOD Reorganization Act of 1986: "The Secretaries of the Military Departments shall assign all forces under their jurisdiction to unified and specified combatant commands to perform missions assigned to those commands..."; the chain of command "runs from the President to the Secretary of Defense; and from the Secretary of Defense to the commander of the combatant command." 4. Let’s see, there’s some C-130 gouge on Baseops.net, maybe that will help?
  5. Back when I flew the Bone, we always briefed that we’d do a manual ejection if we could maintain aircraft control during the sequence, and extend the time between ejections to make sure seats didn’t hit each other. Glad everything worked out for the crew.
  6. Can't speak to the mypay question, but you can definitely deduct alimony - it's 1040 Line 31a under adjusted gross income.
  7. Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said Friday morning. Shortly before noon Eastern Standard Time, the sheriff's office said the situation is contained and that the shooter is no longer active. The base issued a release saying there are no indications the shooting was a terrorist attack. According to initial internal Pentagon communications obtained by Air Force Times, the commanding officer of a training squadron at the base was shot by an airman. The initial communication may have listed an incorrect squadron. An Air Force spokeswoman at the Pentagon could not immediately confirm the internal report. Officials have not yet identified the victim or the shooter by name. The sheriff's office said the shooting took place at building 147 in the Medina Annex, an area just west of Interstate 410. Lackland called the sheriff's office about the shooter at about 8:40 a.m. local time. . http://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2016/04/08/breaking-report-active-shooter-lackland/82787376/
  8. Indeed.com usually has a bunch of engineering jobs, that might be a good start. Not sure if it costs anything to put an ad on, though.
  9. Ironic I got this in some random travel business email this am, though the shootdown probably isn't one of the advertised surprises.
  10. Just saw this on my FB feed from the neighborhood I live in. Sad thing is that they're serious...
