I'm trying to decide whether or not I should subscribe to Jeppesen. Anybody have any comments on this? I've heard that military pilots only use NOS. Is this true?

We've got a few T-6 pilots (AETC unit) that really like the visor shown at the link below. https://www.aquilaoptics.com/index.php?m=Home&c=Products&a=view&id=2 This visor is not currently approved for flight in AETC, and I'm trying to do our folks a solid and at least run down if there's an easy path for the powers that be at AETC to say yes without going down the AF1067 rabbit hole. Anyone here fly with this visor in ACC or elsewhere and familiar with any official safe to fly approval for them? Thanks in advance!

  3. Anyone know a good link to find historical TAF/METAR reports for a location from less than a year ago? Also, looking for a link that would show a historical radar picture. Thanks

I'm wondering if there are any other sites out there that are somewhat like this one, except that they may not be dedicated solely to flying in the AF. I've already been to www.airforceots.com so I know that's out there, but is there anything else? It just doesn't seem like that site gets enough traffic to use more than once a week or so. I'd really appreciate any links you've got.

I am an old National Guard Logistics Officer getting ready to take my first deployment since Desert Storm (and the last one before I retire). I have a choice of going to Arifjan, Thumrait, or Ali Al Salem. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone can give me on the pros and cons of each of these locations. Particularly looking for things like: The OPSTEMPO at each location (I'd like to keep busy) What the facilities are like (quarters, workcenters, MWR, etc..) Communication capabilities (internet, phone access, wi-fi, etc...) Queep level

hello, i have a few stupid questions. i'm a little ignorant...so bear with me please. 1)are warant's treated the same way as commisioned guys. for example do you salute a warrant? 2) are warrant's ever given a ground tour like in the marines, navy, and air farce. 3) i was told that most guys wanna fly the blackhawk as a preferred airframe, and that the apache's are usually the least desired airframe. is this true? 4) and lastly, don't think i'm just after the image or anything, i'm simply curious. do army aviators get the leather jacket's and all the bell's and whistle's that you would see a naval aviator get. thank you cheers

  10. I'm currently a 2LT on Active Duty in the Army (non-aviation). Although, I'm excited to serve the next three years of my contract, I'm interested in becoming a pilot in the USAF, either on Active Duty or in the Reserves . I'm currently deployed and have had a great experience interacting with the crew of a C5 on the way into theater and my long term goal is to learn how to fly fixed wing. I've also heard there's been a pilot shortage for quite some time. Is it possible to pivot my career into the Air Force and become a pilot? If so, what does that process look like?

  12. Don't know the full story but if I was still in I would be wondering about our senior leadership, being in the corporate world I as a worker bee wrenching jets I have a generally poor opinion of my supervision. Now in the corporate world you say bad things about the suits in a public forum you better have a updated resume, but in the military and how they went after this guy just seems petty. https://freebeacon.com/national-security/afghanistan-war-hero-stripped-of-silver-star/

Hello to my Air Force brothers! I'm currently an AH-64D pilot over here in northern Iraq. I've got about two and half years left on my obligation and and have some questions about a possible life with the Air force, active or guard. Oh yea, I am a Warrant Officer. I will have 1000+ hours and my degree will be finished. I will be 31 with eleven years active time as well as attending the JFCC. What's the best way to go? A job flying helicopters or fixed wing is fine and so is guard or active, although, active is preferred. The "Longbow" has got all the bells and whistles with all the avionics and dual laser gyros, etc. About 300+ will be combat time and wonder if any of thi…

I was wondering if anyone has been in both (Army and AF) military training flight schools? I am looking at both pilot training schools. I want to fly more than anything and currently I was selected to fly heavies in the Air Guard. But talking and looking at various posts it looks like the washout rate of Air Force UPT is about 30% to 50%. Where the Army is only 10%. Taking a small look at entry academics the AFAST is alot easier than the AFOQT (38 PICSM; 56 Pilot, 54 Nav). It took me about 6-years to get my bachelors with work etc. (Right now I am getting my instrument rating and have 115 hours of flying.) I am not a good test taker, and learning takes a litt…

No other info Don't want to post a lot because the news is spouting bullshit. Sounds like flight from Seoul, declared emergency, crashed on landing. Fire department still fighting fire. See, now they are saying they did not declare emergency.

What are some cool assignment night themes guys have had? I'm trying to gather ideas for something good. For the last class, we did a Price is Right theme. Guys were told to "Come on Down" as crews to the front of the room, then an F-15 item was put up on the screen that they had to guess the price of (GBU-12, AMRAAM, Gallon of JP-8, etc). Whoever got the closest to the price without going over was chosen to step up to the screen and a "Wheel" of sorts was spun that went through all the bases and stopped on their assignment. What are some other good themes you've seen?

The investigation did not uncover any additional misconduct," the Air Force said. The anonymous complaint that triggered the probe alleged that Hesterman also interfered in the military assignments of the female officer's former husband, according to a heavily redacted copy of the investigation report.
