Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Most of you guys on here have been to quite a few places, so I was hoping for some drops on good places to check out to live (throw in some good boobie tassle locations as well if you dont mind) Im looking to stay as close as I can to the Carswell JRB as I am going to hangin around the 457th on a regular basis. DFW Good place to be? yes? no? I'd like to know what to expect besides horrible traffic and lots of (insert explicitive here) longhorn fans..... Thanks Gents Cheers -summers

Anybody seen this yet? Read the link to the letter in the article. AF times article I see how the zookeeper takes care of things: “We’ve had individuals injured downtown, having had to go to an emergency room or having been victims of criminal activity,” he said. “Sometimes it could be wrong place, wrong time. Sometimes it could be a bad decision.” What sizeable American city does not have these things happening?

I've been messing around on Stable Diffusion AI and here are some of the more interesting results. Not passing any visrecce test anytime soon, but still a fun program to play around with. The ability to artificially create human faces at the bottom is a bit stunning. Prompt: Special Forces on the Moon: Prompt: C-130 Flying in the Sky: Prompt: F-16 bombing Antarctica: Prompt: Fighter Jet in Space: Prompt: USAF Thunderbirds over mountains: Prompt: Airline Pilot With Lots of Money

Posted outside the video thread because some are arguing this T-38 killed a Raptor during a within visual range fight. As with other purported F-22 kills (aka F-18 HUD snaps), there is likely MUCH more to this video than meets the eye. Regardless, it will likely be used as fooder for more nonsensical arguments.

I'm always snapping photos when I'm on the road, and have come to the realization that my digital camera sucks arse. Anyone here have any recommendations for a quality digital camera for under $300. I'm a big fan of the compact point and shoot camera (fits nicely in the flight suit), however the pictures don't seem to come out as good. Feel free to post a picture you've taken with your camera. If you are not watching the Flyers vs Pens series, you should be. This game so far has been awesome. Staal and Kennedy have been impressive, so the role players are stepping up. As much as it pains me to say it, I think one of these teams will take the Cup.

I am shocked and saddened to report our friend and longtime forum member Danger41 passed away yesterday after a freak accident. Many of us knew him in real life and it would be an understatement to say he was an American hero. He was an incredible pilot, officer, mentor, weapons officer and a friend to all. More importantly, he was a dedicated husband and father. I had the honor of mentoring him throughout his career and was with him at Nellis the night he put his patch on...there are not enough words to describe how good of a person he was. This is an absolute gut punch and a reminder that every day is a gift, never miss a chance to tell a friend or family…

So there was an aircraft that struck a light pole while taxiing. Here's how we are going to fix it. Rant: Tell me again how this will determine who's going to have another taxi incident? Instead of beating up all the guys that aren't dinging wings. How bout we focus on flying again instead of all the ancillary bs.

Sounds like a giant booze-fueled sex romp... https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2011/04/MONDAYair-force-sexual-relationships-rampant-in-wing-041811w/ and https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2011/04/MONDAY1air-force-ig-details-conduct-botchie-041811w/ I wasn't around during the Air Force of the 70s and 80s, but I imagine this environment was very similar to what took place back then. There has been a lot of this going around lately it seems like...I don't know if it is happening more or big blue is cracking down more, I am guessing it is the latter.

The viper rolling off the runway and several beers in my belly reminded me of the RSU comments at pilot training. A few that I remember: TTYNR: Take that, you naughty runway WAE: Welcome aboard, ensign BKIH: Burger King is hiring NAFOD: No apparent fear of death

A very crusty old fighter pilot recently sent me an email in which he espoused the use of several of the "eight great lies". The five were: 1) "I'll respect you in the morning" 2) "I'll only put the head in" 3) "I promise I won't come in your mouth" 4) "Parts plus two hours" 5) "I'm not the regular crew chief" So, who can say what the missing three are? And do you have any of your own to contribute? I had heard "the cheque's in the post" was one, but I can't be sure... Ideas?

Hello, This may seem like an odd request, but I am looking for approach charts for OTBH (Al Udeid) if possible. I am doing a simulated flight from ETAR to OTBH, and I typically get my charts from Navigraph, but they only have charts for OTBD. Does anyone know of any online alternatives to Jeppesen? I don't mind payware if it is reasonably priced. Thank you, Audiohavoc

In a recent thread I ran across someone talking about great spit flying in a miniseries called "Piece of Cake." I grabbed it off of netflix to my surprise and in fact it really is wonderful. There's some great formation stuff, as well as a Spit flying under a cobblestone bridge with about ten feet on either side. I hadn't thought there was a good flying flick that I hadn't come across. I don't want the obvious ones. I want more of the "Only Angels Have Wings," "A Guy Named Joe," and "Towards the Unknown" type films. I just discovered "The War Lover" with Steve McQueen which is a must see for you World War Two buffs. Let's hear em! Cheers! -Stuck

I was wondering since PJs and pilots probably have the highest adrenaline jobs in the military, and they're related in that way, have any of you current pilots ever considered PJ (before commissioning)? I know a lot of guys have tunnel vision about flying (not in a negative way) but maybe some of you found some interest in pararescue when you were in college or even before. Just food for thought.

I seem to remember that you could delay your postmission crewrest, but I forget where a reg like that might even be. Anyone heard of it? I have been delayed again from getting outta here and now our leave is going to coincide with our postmission which is a waste of postmission. So I rather use my postmission after I come back from leave.

I'm a cadet who's PAS has tasked him with turning the Detachment's Cadet lounge into something resembling a squadron bar. I was hoping to get some ideas from real life bars, so if any pilots wanted to share pictures of what their squadron's looks like, I would be much obliged. Thanks.
