Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I know there are quite a few witty/creative individuals on this forum...and I am not one of them! I need help coming up with a name for a PIT crash pad I purchased down in Cibolo TX (Randolph AFB). Here is the deal! I bought this brand new 4 bdrm home and have spent over $20K on furnishing this place like a luxury hotel. Here is the premise....I have stayed at Randolph's billeting several times and admit it's not too bad for a short-term stay, but lacks the comforts of a home for long-term use. I am trying to provide a better option for single dudes wishing to stay off base while going through PIT training but at the same rate as billeting ($27 per night). I will ha…

Obviously the Air Force has the ability to be more "mission centric" vice the sister services which have a tendency to be "jack of all trades, master of none." Knowing this full well I'm curious about what experience/training Strike Eagle crews get on BFM/ACM. Do you all concentrate on A/G all the time and totally forgo BFM or am I missing something. This question is loaded but asked politely. Word.

Looking to see if there is any interest in a group order for a custom USAF Pilot Bremont watch. I figure this would appeal to a wide crowd and not just limit it to a specific squadron or airframe. They have been making making custom watches for all the services and squadrons. They just recently made one for Naval Flight Surgeons. I was thinking if they made one similar to this one but with Air Force pilot wings and different colors to compliment it. Below are some details of the program from a Bremont rep. Looks like we would need a minimum of 15 orders. Any interest or inputs to make it better? https://www.facebook.com/BremontMilitary I can't get the scre…

Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic and Congo. I'll bet that's a fun deployment... I'm sure that there's a strategic political "big picture" reason that this makes sense, but somehow I see more "bad things" than "good things" coming from this. On the good side though: Bet that's some good stuff.

I saw the thread last week about everyone's favorite airplanes, and thought it'd be a cool to see what everyone's favorite patches are - either from your previous squadrons, or historical ones too. My two are from the 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at McChord (now gone), and the 7th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Holloman (now 7th CTS) - didn't fly in either one, but both have sentimental value to me because of family ties to the squadrons. Happy Friday to all!

https://www.today.com/news/air-force-captain-proposes-cheerleader-during-nfl-game-2D80214089 I'm taking bets on this being a well-coordinated hoax to redeem the eagle community from the ever-lasting shame of Cosmo Username: VIRGINIABACH07 Anyhow, good on him (the former, not the latter).

It rips me apart to post this, Matmacwc flew west peacefully Christmas morning after a long fight with cancer. He bravely fought it to the end. He was truly a good man and a great fighter pilot. If your inclined to pray please pass a few on to his family. Nickle on the grass my friend. 🍺

Link So the generals in all of the infinite wisdom spent 10 months choosing new motto for the Air Force, that was already chosen for them over 20 years ago. Guess there's nothing better to do with this war going on and all. My favorite part of the article: 20 bucks says that in 10 years we will have another motto.

Mapping out post AF career options (already at 10 year point). Intent is to eek out an AD retirement and then punch at 20. Anyone have any experience applying for those types of jobs? Is it possible to work an airline career to pay the bills?

https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2012/02/military-3-star-presentation-reference-god-021712/ My $.02 is that people should be doing the best the can etc. because it's their job and their supporting a mission, NOT because it is in the best interest of their god/religious beliefs... I know this could be a volatile one, but I'm looking for thoughts.

To consolidate discussions from both the Ukraine & politics threads. Open for discussing all things energy policy! I’ll lead with this: despite rhetoric to the contrary, US domestic oil production is projected to set a new record high in 2023, reflecting a full recovery from the losses due to the pandemic. “U.S. crude oil production averaged 11.2 million b/d in 2021. We expect production to average 11.8 million b/d in 2022 and to rise to 12.4 million b/d in 2023, which would be the highest annual average U.S. crude oil production on record. The current record is 12.3 million b/d, set in 2019.” Source: Energy Information Administration Short-Term Energy …

Happy New Year gents! I have been trying to figure out for the past month whether I should opt in to the new retirement system or not. I have a sort of nonstandard situation, which I'll explain, so finance at my base has no fricking clue and I haven't found anyone in the same boat as me to compare notes with. I know many of you guys are financially way smarter than I am so maybe you can help me figure this out. OK here's what I'm working with. I'm an O-3 commissioned in June 2013, but I was enlisted in the Army reserve for several years before that. My reserve time got me 7 good years towards a reserve retirement, and a few hundred AD days. So…

So I remember Trey Gowdy talking about this. The right of the press to exercise their freedom has privileges but comes with responsibilities. When they become irresponsible they should lose those privileges. The latest example of that would be the reporting on the shooting in Columbus. We could go back to the reporting of Trevon Martin, or even further, and many stories in between as other examples. Is this not akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater? This is a tricky situation because I don't really want the .gov to be able to shut down a news outlet because the party in charge will just shut down the ones that disagree with them.

Ok, I've been drinking bourbon and after 18+ years it’s time for a rant to you young dummies out there. I am sure some will scoff and a few more will certainly roll in on me, so let me launch a pre-emptive fuck you up front, I don't care, deal with it. Yes I am old and I have probably been promoted beyond the rank of usefulness, but I’ve seen a few things along the way and I am going to share them whether you like it or not. I will give my disclaimer up front; yes I’ve been to school a few times and endured the Air Force Koolaid funnel, but at least in my pea brain, I’ve kept perspective and still consider myself a warrior. I could give a rats ass about scarves,…

I just got back from Christmas vacation visiting family in Texas. My wife and I loaded up the car with the kids to make the 20 hour drive. I couldn't get over how much people in CA suck at driving on highways! Do people not know that the left lane is for passing, not cruising. The speed limit on I-5 is 70, and I was only averaging 60 because of all the morons in the left lane. That has to be one of my biggest pet peaves on the road. I also recently flew commercially and couldn't get over just how rude the f-ing TSA security folks are. This one chick with tight ass pants, creating a muffintop-like effect with her love handles, told me "Take off your jacket!" No…

I know some of you guys probably follow stock prices and the value of Tesla or the net worth of the company's CEO. Has the world gone mad calling EVs the future and comparing the CEO to Tony Stark? What non-flying jobs are available with a starting salary over $100K? Considering VSP separations are on the horizon, I'm curious what VSP-approved folks are planning to do after the Air Force, especially since the airline hiring boom hasn't quite started? Are ex-officers really in demand in the corporate world as this Fortune Magazine article suggests? Is the Harvard/Wharton MBA a requisite? How valuable are other in-residence MBAs (Michigan, North Carolina, Arizona)? Anyone out there with 6-figure salary corporate success?
