Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

ADMIN NOTE: The drone posts from the NASA WB-57F and Iran threads were merged into this one. As they were transferred based on their time stamp, CH's original post for this thread is now on page 3 (sorry CH!). A link to this was added to those threads. ~ M2 The NASA WB-57F aircraft made the news after it was revealed that it took part in collecting data on Drone Swarms off the coast of Virginia in the vicinity of Joint Base Langley. The WB-57 has probably one of the longest service careers in the US Military, it was originally a licensed built bomber from Martin Aircraft and based on the English Electric Canberra and was one of the first US jet aircraft to dro…

  2. It's getting a bit difficult to keep up with The many new manifestations of artificial intelligence, but if you do there's a new one out for open testing that is fairly astonishing, if or nothing else than for the simplicity of producing something functional. The service is called Udio, and right now you can make a whole bunch of 30-second clips just to play around with the technology. Here is a song clip I created with my standard AI testing subject: a dinosaur that falls in love with a toaster. https://www.udio.com/songs/hveSQTSVkKQ5NnfCUx5Q2s However as I was playing around with this thing, and based on the market action over the past coupl…

AFSOC SMA shot and killed by police. SMA was in his home, responding to knock at door, apparently no announcement from police, nothing seen out peephole so he rightfully went and got his gun. While coming back to door, police broke in and shot him. Bodycam will set the truth free. Happening too often. This is from the same department that had the cop who lit up the occupied police cruiser due to acorn falling from tree. He resigned and is able to work elsewhere. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/roger-fortson-us-airman-shot-killed-florida-sheriffs-deputy/

I just read on FB that the Bird in Hand at Mildenhall is closing due to the gate being extended or something like that? I have not stayed there in years and when I did I often stayed in one of the newer billeting buildings so I’m having a hard time remembering the place.

Anyone happen to know of a vinyl/print shop in the North West Florida area that does a good helmet wrap? Our local shop shut down, and I’m going to be in the VPS area for a few weeks, was hoping the Elgin/Pcola folks had a go to place with experience. Thanks!

I am shocked and saddened to report our friend and longtime forum member Danger41 passed away yesterday after a freak accident. Many of us knew him in real life and it would be an understatement to say he was an American hero. He was an incredible pilot, officer, mentor, weapons officer and a friend to all. More importantly, he was a dedicated husband and father. I had the honor of mentoring him throughout his career and was with him at Nellis the night he put his patch on...there are not enough words to describe how good of a person he was. This is an absolute gut punch and a reminder that every day is a gift, never miss a chance to tell a friend or family…

Unqualified F-35 Pilot At the Controls During Utah National Guard Apache Crash, Investigation Reveals The helicopter was piloted by a colonel in the Air Force Reserve who was not qualified to fly the aircraft. The colonel, an F-35 fighter jet pilot, had only 35 minutes of experience in an Apache simulator before taking control of the real helicopter for a 90-minute flight.

I am a total space geek and have been reading up on the upcoming mission back to the moon. There is some SERIOUS turmoil in the community over the decisions that have been made. The orbital mechanics are VERY different and is many ways, more risky mainly because the ARTEMIS does not have enough thrust (Delta V), to conduct the mission the same way as Apollo using a low lunar orbit. Instead, they will use a near-rectilinear halo orbit (NHRO), which means there will be long periods that if something happens on the surface, they will have to wait for the return vehicle to come back in range. Apollo Flight Plans ARTEMIS Flight Plans N…

We just finished our final PCS and the movers absolutely destroyed our stuff. Horrendous packing that the QA folks came our and submitted letters of warning to the company. Incomplete inventory.. Used toilet brushed packed with clothing. Lost items... absolute clown show. We issued a claim and in the past have had no issues getting things fixed or replaced. This time seems different. They denied a number of items claiming "damage not in transit" when the item was noted as no previous damage and now it's scratched to F. Other items where a shelf that the driver admitted to completely destroying and testing pics of how bad he F'd it up. The company denied that as we…

  17. A flight carrying the Auburn basketball team had to declare an emergency after a fight between player broke out while airborne. One player was "bloodied." The initial report was "roughhousing got out of hand." The message forums are hilarious saying it was the result of a three way love triangle where two of the players were hooking up with each and one got caught with another dude. Whatever happened mist have been quite a brawl to declare an IFE and ask for police to be waiting when you land.

I decided I wanted to see just how good the newest AI models were at coding (spoiler alert, incredibly good) and reconstruct the program with all the bells and whistles and a unified login system. I'm probably about a day or so away from beta testing, so if anyone would like to use the program, just send me a PM and I'll get you and your spouse set up with accounts. The Baby Namer 9000 allows two parents to independently rate names from the social security database then compare their ratings to instantly see what names were favored by both. hello, im in AFE trying to be a fighter pilot for my unit, and im looking to get the pilots upstairs some alcohol for the Hollidays. I thought it would be a good way of getting my name out there more to the pilots I haven't met yet and just to be a team player. this question is more towards fighter pilots, but if you drink a lot and know the goodies, what kind of drinks, ie. whiskey, vodka, Jeremiah weed, etc. was the best you've had? I want to buy something that they would enjoy, but not spend too much mula. I appreciate your guys' help. happy Hollidays!
