Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Back in the Socom 2 days I'd spend endless hours playing online. Anyone else play this game here? I lost interest after SOCOM 3, wasn't into the whole desert thing. Socom 4 looks pretty sweet. I hear it comes out in October, it used to be Aug but I think they are trying to release it closer to Christmas. https://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/SO...s_Confrontation ( take the few seconds to sign up and download it in HD)

THE UNTOLD TRUE STORY OF MAD DOG SHRIVER: Mad Dog led dozens of covert missions into Laos & Cambodia until his luck ran out. By Maj. John L. Plaster, USAR (Ret.) <https://www.ultimatesniper.com/images/macVsog-patch.GIF> There undoubtedly was not a single recon man in SOG more accomplished or renowned than Mad Dog Shriver. Mad Dog! In the late 1960s, no Special Forces trooper at Ft. Bragg even breathed those top secret letters, "S-O-G," but everyone had heard of the legendary Studies and Observations Group Green Beret recon team leader, Sergeant First Class Jerry Shriver, dubbed a "mad dog" by Radio Hanoi. It was Jerry Shriver who'd spoken the most famous …

A British soldier serving in Iraq died after a hospital transplant gave him a pair of lungs donated by a heavy smoker, a coroner has heard. Corporal Matthew Millington, 31, of the Queen's Royal Lancers, was stationed in Iraq in 2005 when he was diagnosed with an incurable condition which left him unable to breathe; he was told that he would die unless he had a lung transplant. He had double transplant surgery in April 2007 at Papworth hospital, in Cambridge, but less than a year later doctors found a tumour in the new lungs and, despite radiotherapy, Millington died in February 2008. Analysis revealed he had been given the lungs of a donor who smoked 30 to 50 roll-u…

Soldier impersonators target women in web scams Happened to a very close friend two years ago as he was finishing up command downrange. His name was in the papers which led to a scammer stealing and using his identity to solicit money from women around the country. More egregious than the stolen valor issues just don't know if it is receiving any extra attention from law enforcement/legislators.

The head boss man seems more than willing to throw billions of dollars at businesses that are failing and for social programs for people who aren't working. At the same time, the military needs a whole lot of new stuff. IMO, a simple solution to both issues would be to boost military spending. Instead of cutting the numbers of aircraft we are buying, why not drastically increase them? People who have worked in manufacturing their whole lives are finding it difficult to "retrain" into a new job, so why make them? Put them on an assembly line at Boeing for new tankers, put them to work building new C-17s, F-22s, 35s, and helicopters. Why keep throwing money at car com…

Last night while atop a 5 story building over looking downtown Wilmington, NC, I was outside holding the lady (because its December and its cold as fu(king Alaska...) We were checking out the view and looking at the stars... I know... Now...DT Wilmington is about 10 miles from the airport, so there is lots of traffic that fly right over, but ILM is class D and the tower closes at 11. this was 1:52 a.m. we're looking up an from the NW to SE fast as hell was a triangular uh...thing...with an orange glow on each corner. as it passed over, it disappeared. No sound at all. Yes. I had been drinking. So had she, but that was a sobering experience for sure. NOTE: I hav…

SpaceX is suing to be considered along with ULA, the Boeing/Lockheed venture, to launch "national security" satellites into space. SpaceX is claiming to be able to launch for $300 million less than the current contract which was written on a non-competitive basis. This is the kinda thing I've been waiting for, though not sure how successful they're going to be since they're not even certified yet. Given the weight that the current contract owners have, success is unlikely in this first go around. However, note that - Perhaps there's some good to come of it. https://io9.com/elon-musk-spacex-will-file-suit-against-the-u-s-gover-1568027055 the site S…

This should be a big story in the coming weeks. Should be fun to watch the widespread panic intensify if the Space dudes calculate this thing taking aim at CONUS. Oh yeah, FEMA may get involved sez the article. Can't wait for the inevitable questions of "Why wasn't FEMA prepared for this?" or "How can China shoot a Sat in Space and we can't?" Didn't we use to have an ASAT program with F-15 ? Star Wars comes to mind. Ahh the good ole days. ----------------------------------------------------- By LOLITA C. I'm a cadet who's PAS has tasked him with turning the Detachment's Cadet lounge into something resembling a squadron bar. I was hoping to get some ideas from real life bars, so if any pilots wanted to share pictures of what their squadron's looks like, I would be much obliged. Thanks.

I like this forum but I have to ask, do squadrons even have bars anymore? I mean real bars where guys hang out after work (at least when you're night flying which is an auto-kitchen pass...even for SNAPs), gamble, tell stories, read the Doofer Book, write in the Doofer Book and raise hell on Friday Nights before heading to the Big House? I mean a real bar where fist fights happen followed by high fives and some more beers. Do fighter pilots even get into fist fights anymore? Have they installed wine racks and potted ferns and comfy furniture? Did they turn the Bars into day cares for all the pilots married to each other? I think one reason SNAPs are so sensitive…

Finally getting named this weekend, and of course, we're tasked with providing the "pre-namage" entertainment. What are some of the better/funnier skits you all have seen in a roll-call type setting? Any ideas? We're not at home station, so that does make it a little more difficult... Thanks in advance! Edited to add: the boss has ruled out strippers.

Esteemed Assembly: Who makes those large wall peg boards/shelves/racks/etc to hold all your mugs in the squadron bar? I'm in desperate need of one. I'm sure I can design one and build it myself, but I'm typically too drunk to do so due to the fact that there is no where to hang/store my mug with pride. Thanks for the help!

Anyone else seen this website? I keep seeing people all over Facebook liking it and it's awesome. https://www.squadronposters.com Apparently it's run by a C-17 pilot and he and some of his bros do all the art. Pretty cool stuff.
